Damien is referring to the 1922 German expressionist classic silent film Nosferatu, the other one is called Nosferatu The Vampyre from 1979. As much as I love Klaus Kinski and Werner Herzog, their film doesn't come into my mind at all when I think Nosferatu! The only film related to the original that I would recommend is Shadow Of The Vampire, which is an extraordinary film in my opnion, not a classic straight up film but a (fictional) film about the making of the film Nosferatu, with Willem Defoe miraculously transformed into a gloriously grotesque figure as Max Shrek and John Malkovich as Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau.

Ah, I've seen the newer one I think, there was definitely some dialogue in it...
Yeah I've seen that one, or at least a part of it, it was on tv once, on bbc4 I think! It was quite unusual, but really interesting. Lol, if you recommend a vampire movie to me there's a big chance I've seen it already! *vampire obsessed*

Love Shadow of the Vampire. Very funny. And I always think of it when anyone mentions Nosferatu. I know I've seen Nosferatu ... I think I fell asleep?
Watched Near Dark because of Adrian Pasdar. After failing to watch Bigelow's bank heist movie, twice, I assumed I wouldn't like it but it's a damn fine movie.
I used to be a big Anne Rice fan and I thought IWTV was an excellent adaptation.

At last someone who has seen Shadow Of The Vampire! Most people either ignore me or scratch their heads! It IS funny UJ and creepy too..love the film within a film - enjoy that concept and unique take on a "vampire film"!
whimsy, thank you for that, high up on my wish list right now is that all online videos are available internationally to everyone!
Just watched the Damien video again, what an interesting tidbit that he was asked to watch Near Dark. I'll be forever drawing comparisons to Hal now!
domino, have you seen the entry for Shadow of the Vampire on imdb? A Max Schreck fan takes umbrage at the portrayal of Max Schreck as a real vampire ... It's one of the funniest things I've ever read.

As mush as imdb is an excellent resource for filmographies and actor / film details, I tend to avoid the message boards wherever possible, If i want to fill myself up with that much negativity, I just watch the news!
But lol, you have me intrigued! can't they take a metaphor?! method acting takes on a whole new meaning in that film doesn't it!
Since watching this damo video, I have been having numerous mind glimpses of Damien in a vampire film.
The boards can be utterly pointless, and sometimes they can be interesting, on the odd occasion someone who actually knows something posts! With that particular thread, well, I guess I learned something about Max Schreck, like, he wasn't really a vampire.

I am struggling to see the Near Dark connection with Hal or Being Human in general, is it because both the protagonists chose to resist their vampire nature? or are we going to see Hal actually regain his humanity? now that would be a turn of events!
It's been a long while since I saw Near Dark, but they were like a family of vampires, weren't they? I don't remember any details, but maybe that suggestion of domesticity with supernaturals is why it was recommended.

Feel quite pleased that two of my three favourites are also Damien's - "Nosferatu" and "Near Dark", only my third is "The Lost Boys", all of which I have on DVD. "Near Dark" is one of the scariest vampire films ever, so much gore it's amazing. " Lost Boys" veers between humour and fright, a bit like "Being "Human" but "Nosferatu" is the that really gets to me - it works on more of a subconscious level which I find really terrifying. There are some horror films I have never been able to watch - my son is a fan of Japanese horror films and he loaned me one of his (can't remember what it was called, sorry) and I stopped watching after the first ten minutes or so - it showed a child and her mother getting out of a lift, but three shadows - completely freaked me out. There's a Hammer Horror season on Freeview shortly, Horror channnel (70) and that I will be watching because they are so funny (and Christopher Lee the original sexy vampire).
'Near Dark' is one of those films that stands the test of time. And the whole struggle of the protagonist is what makes it most compelling.
BTW I just noticed my post from Feb 2013, before the end of BH 5...

ellie, The only Japanese horror film with Mum and child and an elevator scene that comes to mind is Dark Water (2002) which is a brilliant but very scary movie. (does 'Ring' have one too?) Love Hammer Horror too, thanks for the heads up. As this is slightly off topic maybe we could continue it in our off topic films section - we've actually got a Hammer Horror topic there.
I think you're right about it being Dark Water, Domino, I seem to remember a scene with a water tower as well. I've never watched it all the way through and I'm keeping away from The Ring, too, as my son reckons it will scare me witless. Apparently the American versions are less scary but, no thanks.
I'm fine with gore but no good with cerebral horror - Mitchell killing everyone in the train I was fine with, but Hal just opening the door of Eve's room had me yelling at the screen and scared to watch the next scene. Mind you, Damien can project so much emotion with just a look, no wonder I was scared.
