it was a treat to stumble across this over 2 hours live stage show of the Mighty Boosh!

those unfamiliar with them, they began with radio shows, then 3 tv series.. and tours and bands..they are surrealist comedians and Julian Barratt is a talented musician...and he also appearedd in Being Human series 5!

Thanks for this domino!

I've seen some bits of the live show, but look forward to watching this sometime.  For me the best thing about the olympic opening ceremony was Noel Fielding as the childcatcher......oh joy!!

He plays some disgusting characters in TMB, but I nevertheless find him so hilarious! there are bits of this that offend me (how can rape EVER be the subject of humour?) but I still laugh, and that intrigues me. they are just very unique and enjoy the surrealism in a world that is all so straight lines and representations of reality. Julian Barratt is also a really talented musician. I love their Vince Noir and Howard Moon relationship, was sad theboosh ended. (Don't all the best BBC Three shows end! )

Noel Fielding did his own C4 comedy show too, 'Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy' which I also loved!

Yay!
what did you think UJ? it is so childishly sweary and offensive in some ways, but i love the anarchic/off the wall surrealism and as a duo Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt are the perfect combination.
Hats off to the sound person!

I enjoyed it. All very charming and nuts. I only ever saw a little of the BBC show. I didn't take to it enough to keep watching. I enjoyed this more. I didn't really find it offensive. That's probably a sign of the times. I don't think anything should be taboo. Either a joke works or it doesn't. If a joke on a sensitive subject doesn't work, maybe that's because I, personally, found it offensive!

Glad to hear it UJ, thanks for commenting too!

My favourite comedians are these 2, Russell Brand, Sarah Silverman and the late great Bill Hicks. All controversial in their own little ways, don't know if that is why they appeal to me!

I still haven't watched this, but I've watched every ep of it on tv - and there genuinely aren't many tv series that I can say that about.  I loved it. (For some reason I didn't really get into (Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy).

UJ - I think that you can find something unfunny without being offended, and you can equally laugh at something which you think shouldn't be funny, but you laugh anyway.  Personally I think that a 'joke' only becomes offensive if the intention behind it is malicious.

good point fifi, thank you for helping me make sense of that, I still find the Hitcher a disgusting character, and that is the intention, but he is also hilarious! (and I am not easily shockable or offended - I just find certain subjects difficult to find humour in)

You better hurry up and watch it fifi, because here is another, of their Future Sailors tour (you will know the characters if you've seen every series!) This one is not as funny, but still good!

enjoy

Finally got round to watching the end of the first one.  Fantastic! Thanks, domino.  I agree the Hitcher is great......it's that weird, unlikely fusion of cheeky cockney and sinister voodoo witchdoctor - I've got the 'eels song' in my head now.....

I find Old Greg the most disturbing character, but I still laugh (and my kids refer to Gregg the Bakers as "Old Greggs", which gives me unbounded satisfaction!)

Had a quick peek at the second one and I think I may have seen it before - or at least the 'future sailors' song rings a bell.  Their songs are just brilliant......I think the 'crimping' ep is quite possibly my favourite episode.

Yay! glad you enjoyed fifi!

Their ad libbing and heckle management is as funny as the show!

and..you know the warm up with the pie? well that was all i could think of with Larry the werewolfs' book 'Success Pie'! :biggrin

do you think the Hitcher is Noel Fielding's experiment on how far he can push it and/or how stupid he can make us look for enjoying the most disgusting character and all the nonsense he comes out with?

I find that character way more of a challenge than Old Greg! and the song he and Howard Moon (Julian Barratt's character) sing is genius! especially Julian's part! haha!

(usual weirdness warning applies for the Boosh uninitiated)

Haha....thanks for this, domino.  I watched Hal's prequel just before I found this, and was feeling a bit tearly.  Ended up watching Mighty Boosh clips on youtube for ages and the evening took a rather different direction!

I just really don't get where Old Greg comes from......the Hitcher is your basic cockney witchdoctor with an extra helping of weirdness, which I can somehow get my head round. But Old Greg is....???  Not that it matters - still makes me laugh.

yay The Mighty Boosh dancing

Two years ago my roommate and I were so obsessed with it, we watched several episodes every day and then rewatched the live shows once a week for at least 2 months. biggrin

I'm still waiting for the album they apparently recorded ages ago but haven't released yet.
