the first time i saw this scene was the one which was kindly posted by someone but was a bit blury and quiet and i wasnt happy with the way it ended. but once ive watched it in decent quality and sound i can appreciate and understand it better! im so happy with the fact that they aren't human but i thought Hal would of been a bit more disappointed that he wasnt human! i though he might of reacted a bit more......but still loved it of course!
Hal is such a perfectionist and has been around for such a long time he is probably more pissed off that he didn't realise sooner, leanneloveschoc!
I actually think the way they discovered they were not human was handled perfectly, with the uniquely BH tragi-comedy tone... As each of the 3 list off the losses of their biggest dream. Had it been handled differently there would not have been an almost triumphant tone as our three head back into the fray...a place more familiar to us than them Being Human. They had to go there though....for the TV show in its concept to be stretched to its fullest extent and ultimate underlying theme. As a long term fan I feel we were treated with the highest respect with the double ending.
Finally watched this - wanted to rewatch the rest of S5 first - and, I dunno, but I feel slightly unsatisfied by it. I suppose, because I knew what it contained before watching it, I didn't get the whole 'OMG! They're not human after all! Go team!' thing which possibly dulled the reaction.
Watching it a second time and picking up the nuances makes it better, and Hal in that sexy three-piece suit and flipping those cards so elegantly always makes it worth 2 minutes of my time, but I feel there's something missing...although I can't put my finger on what.
However, it's a canny move on the part of Toby and the producers to leave it open-ended for the fans (and the fanfic writers!) whilst completing it for those that simply watched it on the TV.
Thanks. I was able to look at the screen caps so wasn't completely abstaining!
I'm not sure about directly relating to that scene, but there are certainly a few fics around that run post-S5 with them still as supernaturals; a search on fanfiction.net will bring them up...
