I've booked tickets to see this both in London next month and again in N'hampton in March too - only 3 weeks til the first one, and then again 6 weeks later!
I've found some reviews from when The Body Of An American premiered...and I think it may make for quite a harrowing evening......but I'm hugely looking forward to seeing Damien in this. And it will be great to see peeps again!
Kat, the Royal Court production of IYDLUD was pretty smallish i think and that made channel 4 news! (was it the Jerwood downstairs? think that is about 300- 400ish) I think it depends whether if it is newsworthy, which it perhaps wont be at the time. Sometimes Channel 4 does some artsy stuff, BBC 2 too, but I guess I am clutching at straws for those of us who cannot go.
Excellent news that you are going twice Becca and Fifi, hope you are able to get there too Kat
Aren't we gracious, those of us who cannot make it, being so congratulatory!
Yes fifi, it is not a lighthearted play by any means, but fascinating and a quality role for Damien to get his teeth into. Sigh another one I SO wish i was seeing.
I'm seeing it 3 times in London. 18th, 23rd (with Brookesey), 25th with Becca & UJ. I might see it a 4th time in Feb with UJ. I still can't decide about Northampton. I'd like to go and see everyone, but seeing it 5th times might be pushing it!

Yay, happy you are able to go too Matty! 3 times? wow Laura that is dedication! Agreed Su, so second time around we want detailed blow by blow account!
Wow this really isn't that far away now. Damien really has worked hard this year and it sounds like next year will be no exception.
Yes I am hoping that I will be able to remember as much as possible this time. I may record it on my phone, not to put online anywhere or anything but just so I can remember what he says!! Lol!! The molony effect makes my already useless memory even worse.
Feels like a long way off for me yet. 2 whole months! Still so excited that he is doing this. What a lovely suprise for us over Christmas :) xx

the announcement was the perfect christmas pressie hey!
If there are stage door opportunities, Maybe someone will be able to ask Damien if he would record a tiny video message like he did once for the BH fans, when he said he couldn't wait for us to see it! He has always been very gracious about posing for photos and the fan vids.
The run at Gate Theatre begins 16th January, that's only 20 days away!

The Body of an American speaks to a moment in recent history when a single, stark photograph - of the body of an American dragged from the wreck of a Blackhawk through the streets of Mogadishu - reshaped the course of global events. In a story ranging far in time and place, from Rwanda to Afghanistan to the Canadian Arctic, and in powerful, theatrical language, Dan O’Brien explores the ethical and personal consequences of Paul Watson’s photograph, as well as the interplay between political upheaval and the experience of trauma in an age saturated by images and information.
“In powerful, theatrical language, O’Brien explores the ethical and personal consequences of Watson’s photograph, as well as the interplay between political upheaval and the experience of trauma in an age saturated by images and information.” - Columbia University, Kennedy Award Announcement
“A stark, intense work…an arresting script that elegantly ponders the implications of bearing witness to atrocity.” - Be Portland
“[The play’s] strength - in many ways, but not all - is that it deals less with battlefield maneuvers and casualties than with wars within, the fight each of us in some way wages against private hurts and fears and alienation.” - The Oregonian
The Body of An American was first presented by Portland Center Stage in Portland, Oregon, on October 9, 2012. It was directed by Bill Rauch. The play was commissioned and developed with support from The Playwrights’ Center’s 2009-2010 McKnight Commission and Residency Program, Minneapolis, MN. Additional support received from the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Residency, a Future Collaborations Grant from Theatre Communications Group, a Sundance Institute Time Warner Storytelling Fellowship, the 2010 PlayLabs at The Playwrights’ Center, the 2011 New Harmony Project, a workshop at Pioneer Theatre in 2011, and the 2011 JAW Festival at Portland Center Stage.

CASTING NOTES
Two actors play all the roles here—ideally one actor in his 30s, who plays Dan most of the time, and an actor in his 50s to mostly play Paul. The older of these two actors has the first line of the play, and with each new character-heading the actors alternate.
My tickets for 1 March in Northampton were waiting on my doorstep today too. If you're going to the evening showing a bunch of us forumers are going then so we might see yo there IAmArmony. Do try to meet him if you get the chance as he is lovely and will put your nerves at ease straight away.
I notice that his spotlight page has updated with The Body Of An American details & Damien has added the poster as the banner on his twitter account.
The more I read about this play the more intrigued I am to see it. 28 days & counting until my first viewing!
