Thrilled as I am for him that he's been making films I really am pretty unreasonably excited by the thought that he will be back on my tv soon.....well, not that soon, but again!
In case anyone doesn't know, Aidan has been cast as Ross Poldark in the new BBC adaptation which is due to start filming next month, and will air 2015. I have dim recollections of Poldark from the original series, but I do remember that it was hugely popular - my mum was a big fan, and thoroughly appoved when I showed her Aidan's pic! lol!!....and she's given me all the books, so I need to get reading...
I'm a little bit excited about this. It's been three years since Aidan was last on our tv screens so it's about time we got to see him again.
There was a little bit of adverse reaction to his casting by someone who is a member of the Poldark Society who claimed 85% of its members weren't happy with his casting. I forget this lady's name, Val someone, but she also went on to claim she hasn't seen any of Aidan's previous work and has based her claim on the fact that she thinks he's too young. And also the fact that he isn't Richard Armitage which is who this 'society' had their hat set at. I haven't read the books so asked those on twitter who had, how old Ross Poldark is at the start of the books and i was told in his twenties. And Aidan is 31 in June, so not too young. And Richard Armitage is in his early forties. So i have a feeling that her opinion is based on disappointment and sour grapes (and we don't know how many members this society has, the 85% could be out of a hundred members for all we know) She came across as a little bit arrogant in her opinion as well as unfair because she hasn't seen Aidan on tv so in fairness she can't judge him.
Mammoth posted a teaser pic on Twitter this afternoon, pretty much a silhouette of Aidan, it was a little bit disappointing to be honest after the earlier hype around releasing it.
BUT...Aidan back on my tv screen sometime next year according to BBC1. I'm intrigued.
Never heard of Poldark until that little Damo campaign domino, but I'm definitely looking forward to it with Aidan. As much as I want Damien in everything, I think they did a fantastic job casting Aidan in this role.

I am delighted for Aidan and his fans. I don't actually see Damien as Ross Poldark so I am not worried about it. He will be getting a high profile role in a film or TV series, I have no doubt whatsoever.
Can I just drop this in here....am I allowed to gratuitously post non Damien pics?!

Getting quite excited about Aidan being back on my tv. I've started day dreaming about the possibilty of Aidan and Damien being on tv AT THE SAME TIME!!! The only thing that could top that would be if they were actually in the same programme.....
I just love the fact that Being Human gets such a prominent mention....I know it's the Radio Times - but most articles only seem to mention the fact that he was Kili (which is understandable)....whereas this one makes the point that Phil Davis was also in BH!
Though this tickled me...

I've actually started reading 'Ross Poldark' in preparation for Poldark (later today!!)
Aidan has been all over the place promoting this and i am really enjoying the trailers and Cornwall looks absolutely gorgeous in those trailers (and it is a gorgeous county, i've visited with my family two or three times, last time was nine years ago and we were on the north Cornish coast, very near some tin mining communities, i think the Geevor tin mine wasn't far away) and the print press has been full of him and the other cast members too.
I am really looking forward to this and i hope it's as good as the trailer seems to be.
Well this series is a must for me. I never watched the original with Robin Ellis - don't know why though!
Robins Ellis, while praising Aidan, says he doesn't understand why he has to take off his clothes so much! He only took his shirt off once when he was playing Ross. Aidan takes off his shirt (as seen in the trailer) and apparently swims naked! He also goes commando because that is the way that someone in his situation would go about!
Have to admit, i was expecting to like this whatever anyone else said and I did and the reviews seem to be positive. Everything about the opening episode was beautiful, the theme music and the music all the way through was gorgeous, evocative and ethereal, Cornwall was stunning and yes the cast too, Aidan especially. I think the ratings for tonight's episode will be really good, i'll even go as far as saying BBC One will have another hit on their hands and well deserved too.
It was unreasonably good to see Aidan back on my tv! I'm a bit of a Tolkien fan and was quite surprised how much more excited i was for Poldark than I have been for The Hobbi films. I wasn't disappointed and I have to say that he'ss looking mighty fine..... Looking forward to the rest of the series....
Second episode including that sea bathing scene (scandalously short in my shallow opinion!) and i'm loving this. It's perfect Sunday evening viewing and last night's episode pulled in 6.7 million, 0.25m less than last week's but enough to be holding its own, as some thought the big viewing figures were down to the Call The Midwife follow in but no, i'm pleased to say that more or less everyone who tuned in last week, tuned in again.
I'm currently reading the second book in the series and i'm glad to see that so far, they seem to be sticking pretty close to the source material. Aidan is very good as Ross, I do love Eleanor's Demelza, she's gradually growing in confidence, I can see her in my mind's eye as i read the book and i think she's well suited to the role (I didn't see the original so i can't comment on that) but there is growing chemistry between this Ross and Demelza. As i said, i feel it's very true to the books.
I think we can safely say in the case of a second series, it'll be a matter of 'when' not 'if' especially if episode 3 ratings hold.
Couldn't agree more with you Ruby! Yes, the sea bathing scene was really enjoyable but far too short (the view was rather good indeed;)) I haven't read the books but I felt such a excitement when Demelza was peeking him from the cliff. Love the story so far, I really should read the books too, but I also like the feeling not knowing too much (which is why I watch Game of Thrones series first before reading the books). Nice to hear that they are very loyal to the books, Poldark fans must be pleased.
