agree Jozie, Damien's hallmark nuance of acting expression is present in Jack. the underplayed moments are somehow even more powerful. he makes his characters emanate... the silence is almlst fizzing with it...
Scenes 46, 47, 48, 50 Jack and Charlie search the park, find a little girls shoe and the Den. Martha sees Fiona on cctv, Jack and Charlie find her at the church, with a cardboard box. the relatives are told and Jack puts a hand on Robbie's shoulder (15 mins)
Scene 46: 29.58-31.25
Jack grabs a team and car. He and Charlie drive to the park to search the area.
"torches on let's find it as quickly as possible please."
They find a little girl's pink shoe.
Scene 47: 31.26-32.37
Jack and the team are still in the park. Jack calls Martha back at HQ to tell her no sign of Hope but they found a shoe and the den and a trail leading from there, but it goes dead. Martha says she will get the cctv footage for the area. when she watches, the footage shows Fiona Sullivan pulling up at and then entering the park, running back with a box and putting it in the boot of her car. She calls jack to tell him and that they are tracking Fiona's phone and she is heading to St Swithens church.
Jack and Charlie run to the car.
Scene 48: 32.38-33.54
Jack and Charlie and the team drive to the church where they find Fiona with the box. Charlie arrests her on suspicion of murder
Scene 50: 34.17-34.41
dialogue free scene with just soundtrack. Jack tells Laurie about Hope. He tentatively puts his arm on his shoulder.
agree, he emotes so much that I feel most of what we got about Jack's personality in this episode was due to all the expressions Damien did.
domino, that recorded interview I believe. the interviewer asked specifically about that scene.

I have to leave soon, 6 hours then I have to wake up for the exams, but no worries, got my lucky double one domino with me and very nice pic about Damien as screensaver in my phone so I will do great (I think) :D
The frantic-ness of these scenes was palpable. I still felt they would find the little girl alive. When they got to the church and found the box... this was the only hard point for me story wise.
It bugged me at first how he told the copper to just leave the box for forensics, I felt it was a bit insensitive of Jack the first time I watched it, but consecutive viewings I got more of the feeling that's what he has to do to deal with his job. It wasn't insensitivity, it's a coping mechanism. (which I'm sure police in general have to do to not be overwhelmed)
The scene where he tentatively pats Laurie's shoulder was interesting. He obviously did not want to sympathize with Laurie, it was hard to tell if he did the patting as a way to comfort him or if in a sense he was "doing it for the cameras." Any thoughts?

Again feel the need to say.. these are harrowing scenes, utterly horrendous subject matter... if we don't address it diretly it is not because we are flippant about it just that it is hard to chaf about. we all know the crime and the facts of it.
agree with you domino about Jacks leading position in the park
What I din't have expected is the emotional scene, when Jack grabs Lauries shoulder, although he doesn't like that man
Yeah, I thought the scene with Laurie was interesting too. It think he was conflicted. I don't know if he was doing it for the cameras. I think he knew that Laurie wasn't exactly a good guy but he didn't kill his daughter either. So he was trying hard to sympathize.

i was struck by how much the police rely on cctv. I mean i know they do in real life, but this really brought it home to me. in terms of evidence it was always the cctv.
There was one very disturbing thin I noticed in that park scene.
That one cop and look in his face when he was looking at Jack, it was super creepy and I think it went bit too over, that shoe was sure horrible to find but still...
I know it was bit irrelevant but did he have to look at Damien whole time like that, maybe it was those big eyes that disturbed me more.
But I liked park scene, Jack was giving orders (somehow I liked that little too much).
And I loved Jacks reactions when other cop gave him the shoe: "SHIT!!"
But in the end I was really shocked that girl was dead. It really putted my mood down for rest of the ep :/
Whimsy, I liked that Jack was offering Laurie comfort, human thing to do when some hears that their child is dead. jack seemed to be little awkward when he rested his hand on his shoulder, very Jack way to comfort someone I think.
