This is my first attempt at fanfiction so I know it's not very good. This is just a bit of Halex fluff. Very short.

Dreamcatcher

There were times when Alex really missed being able to sleep. At night she was so bored. Tom and Hal were asleep and she had no one to talk to. Sometimes she felt like when Tom and Hal were asleep, she just stopped existing altogether. Like if they slept for too long, she would just fade and drift apart. The first night she felt this loss of substance, Hal had woken up to her sobbing. She expected him to be angry with her for waking him, but instead he took her hand and led her into his room. He gestured to his bookcase, and said that she could read his books, provided she put them back exactly where she found them when she was done.

She was sure that the books were boring too, but smiled at the offer.

That had been a week ago, and Alex finally felt desperately bored enough to take Hal up on his offer. She sighed, and rent-a-ghosted into his room, not wanting to wake him by opening the door. She glanced over at Hal. He was shaking and writhing as if he was in pain. She wondered if he was having a nightmare. Cautiously, she reached out, then stopped. "Isn't it like reading someone's diary?" she remembered asking Lady Mary. She placed her hand on Hal's head. It hit her so hard she almost cried out. Hunger. Pain. Blood. All the people he killed, their faces, and sometimes their names. All the deaths he was responsible for, whether through dogfights, or human gifts given to other vampires. Alex was surprised to see her own face, the memory of when he saw her dead body. She felt his despair; he had done this, if he had just hung up the phone and not let Tom bully him into pursuing her. Wait, what? "You have no idea of the danger you're putting her in". She took her hand away from his head. All those deaths he already took blame for. He shouldn't have blame for mine. Mine wasn't his fault. It wasn't Tom's fault either, he doesn't know what being a vampire is like. I was just a slave to circumstance. She reached out again, conveyed her thoughts to him. Don't blame yourself for me. As for the other memories he was forced every night to relive. "I can't take those away from you. It's not my right. But..." She pushed another memory into his head. Dodge 'ems, ice cream, ferris wheel. She laughed quietly. With all that darkness spinning round his head, a memory of a ferris wheel probably wouldn't help. She turned her attention back to the bookcase, and selected one by Jane Austen. She rent-a-ghosted back to her room and began to read.

Hi Cora
I thought this was so sweet. I loved how Alex wanted to help Hal cope with all his guilt and put a happy memory in his mind.

I've not been writing fan fiction for long either but it becomes very addictive because it is so much fun! Keep at it!

Cora, what a lovely piece of fanfic, it is much more than just 'fluff', it goes straight to the heart of Hal's suffering, and who doesn't love a bit of Halex!

the conscious transference of a thought (and not just a memory) from a ghost to another is also an intriguing concept... if that had been more expanded in the Being Human universe, your glimpse would be entirely imaginable.

Thank you for sharing with us direct to the page, keep going!

blushingActually it was, remember? Regus. "Something leaked out" *pointing to his head* "You don't trust them. Not really. Not yet." The fact that Annie didn't trust Tom and Hal was a thought and not a memory. So I figured Alex would probably have learned to do that too. :3 I tried to make Hal as Hal as possible, but it's kind of difficult to do when he's unconscious.
Oh, by the way, is there a Haldorable emote? Because there needs to be! ;)

This is a fantastic little ficlet!  Have you heard of fanfiction.net or Archive of Our Own?  You should publish it on one or both!

And careful, once you get sucked into Being Human/ Hal fan fiction it's hard to leave it!  I haven't read anything else in a year and half! LOL  And writing my own has just about eclipsed all my other hobbies...
