We are excited to share a wonderful new promo photo and exciting news from Channel 5 today – our favourite detectives return for Suspects series 3 in January 2015!
Four brand new episodes will be aired in the new year across a two week period, with the three leads, Damien (DS Jack Weston), Fay Ripley (DI Martha Bellamy) and Clare-Hope Ashitey (DC Charlie Steele) joined by a stellar guest cast.
Emmett J. Scanlan, (The Fall, Constantine, Hollyoaks), Chris Coghill, (24 Hour Party People, EastEnders), Jody Latham (Shameless, Waterloo Road), Ben Peel (The Fall, Hunger), Ray Fearon (Da Vinci’s Demons, The Hooligan Factory), Lucy Gaskell (Being Human, Misfits, Casualty), and Kathryn Drysdale (Benidorm, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps) all portray characters in tough new cases facing the top CID team.
The end of Series 2 saw Jack sent to the naughty corner with an enforced six week holiday, after his actions were brought into question and caused friction with his colleagues. An overview of the upcoming episodes confirm his return but suggest the dynamics within the team are far from settled, as they tackle fresh and challenging investigations.
Check it out below.
The new series opens with the return of DS Jack Weston (Damien Molony) after his period of enforced leave. DI Martha Bellamy (Fay Ripley) is pleased to have Jack back, but makes no bones about it: this is his last chance… The team is called to a sixth form college, where a popular art teacher has been found with life-threatening head injuries – who has brutally assaulted her? The plot thickens when it transpires that this teacher had previously made complaints about being stalked to DC Charlie Steele (Clare-Hope Ashitey). The usually composed Charlie is beside herself – could she have prevented this horrific crime? The pressure’s on Jack to step up to the plate as Charlie’s sergeant, and keep everyone’s focus on the case. Suspicion falls on violent and aggressive college handyman Harry Webster (Ben Peel), who went to prison for killing his wife, and who clashes with Charlie as the investigation unfolds – can she keep her cool under fire? As events come to a head, Jack focuses his scrutiny on college head teacher Rory O’Hanlon (Emmett J. Scanlan), and uncovers a trail of suspicious deaths that makes even Martha’s blood run cold…
Coming up in future episodes, the team try to get to the bottom of what has happened to a badly-burned girl who has been dumped in the Thames, and who went missing two years ago – where has she been all this time? Next, an old adversary comes back on Martha’s radar when ruthless property developer Gregor Forrester (Ray Fearon) is accused of an arson attack that leaves a young man fighting for his life – can Jack put his personal grudges aside to trap slippery Gregor once and for all? And finally, Charlie has to tread carefully when her copper’s nose tells her that a family secret is obstructing justice, as she investigates a vicious hate crime on a transgender person – she is sure that this is connected to another of her cases, a missing teenage girl – but, with parents Natalie and Andrew Granger (Lucy Gaskell and Chris Coghill) stonewalling her, can Charlie crack the case and find the girl before it’s too late? But, as I said when s2 was announced......only 4 eps???! Looks like they're all new ones too, so it seems unlikely that we're ever going to get to see the rest of the series one eps.
Glad to see that there's apparently going to be a link following through from Jack's 'enforced leave' - I had wondered if it might never be refered to again so it makes me happy that there will be some character continuity.....and it looks like we might get a bit more Charlie character development in this series....which is good. Does seem a bit strange to air the 4 eps over 2 weeks again if they aren't 2 parters though.......

Thrilled to see Jack's return from the naughty corner mentioned in the press release ...
"The new series opens with the return of DS Jack Weston (Damien Molony) after his period of enforced leave. DI Martha Bellamy (Fay Ripley) is pleased to have Jack back, but makes no bones about it: this is his last chance…"
looks like we were right in this topic about frictions in the team not being completed abated
And as you say fifi there seems to be a little more (much deserved) focus and character development for Charlie..
"The usually composed Charlie is beside herself – could she have prevented this horrific crime?"
"Suspicion falls on violent and aggressive college handyman Harry Webster (Ben Peel), who went to prison for killing his wife, and who clashes with Charlie as the investigation unfolds – can she keep her cool under fire? "
"Charlie has to tread carefully when her copper’s nose tells her that a family secret is obstructing justice, as she investigates a vicious hate crime on a transgender person ..."
The series synopsis suggests there are four distinct storylines, but the across the two week period dies suggest the same 2 x 2 parter episodes format that series 2 had! we shall see!

Another Suspects 3 article, good to see previous ratings, the show is gathering momentum, it would be reasonable to 'suspect' series 3 ratings will be even higher!
Anyone see Fay Ripley on Daily Brunch today? There was a brief mention of Suspects, nothing new revealed but always lovely to see our fave little show have a mention on National TV! Fay said it will be back in the New Year, I'm hoping, literally!
UK peeps, you can watch Fay Ripley on Daily Brunch here
Obviously looking forward to it but I do hope we get to see the S1 episodes that haven't been aired yet at some point. I was looking forward to the one they were supposed to return with. I remember seeing the preview and my boyfriend saying he didn't understand a word of it, which is funny because I did and it's usually the other way around. I was looking forward to translating for him for a change.

Yes, I have been waiting for those episodes too. Its seems they are lost somewhere, all this time I've been wondering what happen to them and what they are going to do with them..
It appears that most of the remaining unnaired episodes mentioned for series 1, are in fact the episodes of Series 2 (perhaps the 10 episodes were not all filmed at that point).
Fremantle manage the Suspects IMDB page and it you look at the episodes, you will see the unaired episodes 6, 7, 8 and 9 from series 1 are synopsis from Series 2 episodes: Suspects Series 1 epidodes guide | IMDb
So... now we have a date for the Suspects Series 1&2 and Series 2 DVD (12 Jan), does this give us any clue as to when in January Series 3 will premiere?

Hmmm - I'm rather suspicious about this! My first thought was - as whimsy has mentioned elsewhere - we haven't seen Damien's special power at the ticket barrier yet! And there's this from the first suspect's press release from Freemantle:
"The cases themselves are hard-hitting and contemporary – ranging from the disappearance of a soldier with PTSD to the hunt for a serial rapist. The team also investigates the shooting of a popular clergyman and a gang of sex traffickers who prey on teenage girls.
We definitely haven't seen an episode about a soldier with PTSD, or about the shooting of a clergyman......
It seemed like the episode they showed a preview of at the end of S1, showing a "next time" that presumably would have been S1E6 was about a soldier, right?
Did anyone get a good gather of the shots from the montage after S2? The one that showed suspects yet to come? I was wondering if it included any of the people shown in that S1 "next time" trailer? Or if you could tell by the quality of the shots if any seemed like S1. (There was a marked difference between the episodes shot last fall and in the spring)
Still struggling to understand channel 5's scheduling choices. This is their own original commission. Surely they would want to capitalize on airing everything if they already invested the money in the filming.

That's true fifi and whimsy! and only 9 synopsis are mentioned on IMDB so the remaining one may be one of the already filmed ones.
But what about the new actors who filmed over this past summer (like Luke Newberry) and appeared in those episodes in Series 2? Those episodes cannot have been filmed at least not fully.

I'm not sure I understand this question?

The synopsis for some episodes in series 1 that people are saying are unseen, are the synopsis for those shown in series 2 whimsy. Those episodes were filmed over summer 2014 which is why I said maybe when 10 eps were mentioned fir series 1 they'd not actually all be filmed.
well I of course I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that when they first announced Suspects, the intent was 10 episodes for S1... and as they had already filmed a big block of time, they must have filmed 10 episodes. Didn't Damo say in an interview it took about two days per episode (plus a bit of time for extra pickups and such)? They had 5 weeks, something like 12 hr days, so at that rate 10 isn't impossible. (albeit exhausting!!!)
my guess is that the IMDB synopses for S1 remaining episodes was incorrectly filled in with the synopses of the episodes shot in the summer.

Oops sorry, forgot I was in the admin account for last post!
I would agree whimsy if it wasn't for the fact that the IMDb page is overseen by Fremantle.... perhaps one day we Damo detectives shall get to the bottom of this mystery!
More importantly however... SERIES 3 IS COMING NEXT MONTH!!
I did ask a couple of posts back, but does anyone have any guesses of a date, seeing as theSuspects Series 1&2 and Series 2 DVDs are released 12 Jan? and will it still be #WestonWednesdays? Possibly the same nights as series 2, as it is the same 2 x 2 episode format?
