Fantastic! The Latitude one has hilarious heckling in the background but it does rather detract from Damien's fantastic reading! It's a funny story with a twist.
Oh wow this was a very good find! Thank you for sharing this. I somehow enjoy this new version more, like Rosie said you can really concentrate in his voice and get in the story better when there are no background noise and other distraction.
It is a delight to see WordTheatre sharing one of Damien's readings and thrilling to watch. Let's hope it is the first of many.
His video demonstrates why it's so important to see the visual performance and not just the audio. Damien is acting this, not just reading it. What a story, what a story teller. Loved hearing the audience respond.
I love his readings anyway, but this is so clear it just takes it to a new level. Wonderful.
I just love his expression when he is "being" Janine!
It's breathtakingly good.. and totally hilarious! A brilliant short story by Charles Yu completely brought to life.. Damien's reading creates a visual image of the story too..
I love this! I wish they'd share the whole thing (does that sound very demanding and ungrateful?!) It's great that somebody recorded it at Latitude...and I really enjoy watching it - but, I agree, the heckling does detract somewhat (whist at the same time being rather enjoyable!) and the sound isn't exactly fantastic. He actually looks so much more relaxed at the Adam Street reading.....he looks as though he's enjoying it far more. And - it's been said before - but I do like that lighting.....
Oh my, this is awesome! I enjoy the Latitude version, it's funny and I didn't find the heckling annoying, it just added to the to festival atmosphere, but actually being able to SEE Damien's expressiveness is such a treat. He probably did enjoy it more, it certainly looks like he punched up his performance for a very appreciative audience whereas at Latitude it was a bit more reading less acting.
Have I ever mentioned how much I enjoy the fact that enjoy how his voice quivers and cracks sometimes, and how he does so much acting with his hands...
Is WordTheatre starting to post older stuff then? I'm totally going to be the ungrateful spoiled brat, but I want the whole thing!!!

I'd love to see the whole thing too! WordTheatre have been expanding their video catalogue via their Youtube Channel, but there are no more Damien readings at this time. Fingers crossed for more being made available in the future.
Never seen the first video before. Nice to hear an extract without the background noise of Latitude. Suddenly 2012 feels like ages ago... Would be nice to hear/see DaMo do more reading's in the future.
His Janine voice is priceless, love it! haha.
