Marcella is thrilled to have a role in a film, but her delight is short-lived when her actions accidentally cause the lead actress to have a meltdown. With filming cancelled for the day she finds herself running into Jon and discovers that there's more to him than meets the eye. After a boozy, giddy and confusing evening they re-unite at the film screening, but as the night unfolds it becomes far from the triumphant occasion Marcella had hoped for.
Can't wait to see this period costume bit of filming for Marcella, it promises to be hilarious.
But like You Rosie, it is this part of the episode guide that intrigues and has me most excited:
"With filming cancelled for the day she finds herself running into Jon and discovers that there's more to him than meets the eye. After a boozy, giddy and confusing evening they re-unite at the film screening, but as the night unfolds it becomes far from the triumphant occasion Marcella had hoped for.
(I've checked in the episode 5 cast list and Jon is on there, so it is not the end of Jon, which is a relief!)
DaMo is back on the telly box in episode 4, 9.30pm tonight!
As well as Marcella's film acting gig in period costume, can we assume this scene - shown in the first trailer and the clip on Sunday Brunch - will feature in tonight's episode?
OMG !!! I loved this episode, hard. Funny, warm, real. Heartwarming and hilarious. It's such a magical gem of a comedy, there's a joyfulnesss and a tenderness radiating from it. Makes me feel a warm and transcendent! I want to double my five stars. Yes that's ten stars (but without the coke). Need to watch again immediately!!!
And Damien's singing! the acting in that scene with Marcella and Jon was so natural it makes you wonder if it was improv!
The spider scene will make me laugh for days!
AND SO WILL THE "AND WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU PERSEVERED?" FLASHBACK!
In terms of Damien's on screen time it was an episode of two halves. And yes, he really did have a date! So he wasn't trying to make Marcella jealous in the last episode! Loved seeing Jon out of driving instructor mode, and finding out he is not just a driving instructor, oooh!
As someone who is absolutely terrified of spiders (they lurk and run towards you), I can completely relate to the reaction of the woman told she had a spider on her - I would have completely freaked out! I have had one drop on me on more than one occasion and think my yells could have been heard in Venezuela.
I think Gameface works because it only slightly exaggerates real life (well, mine, anyway) and doesn't go too overboard. Surely we've all gone into the supermarket for a bottle of milk or a loaf of bread and ended up with an armful of stuff. I now always pick up a basket, Jon!
Loved learning more about Jon, sad when he turned out to really have a date. Fingers crossed it doesn't work out (even if it takes into season 2). But wait - Marcella said Jon reckons she's just about ready to take her driving teat. Let's hope she doesn't pass first time, or there will be no more Jon!
wow, this is really a great show. And every time I think I love this series, it can not get any better, it will be even better.
I feel so with Marcella and her ups and downs which she experiences. And there are actually real problems with which she is confronted, so you can be so compassionate.
Great, that we have now learned more about Jon. He hates bowling .. aha
I love everything in the "date" scene with the two. But why does Jon give up so quickly and return to his Broken-Arm-Lady? He really likes Marcella. What is really going on in him? Is this a protective treatment of him?
Roisin is certainly also a Being Human Fan !! In any case, she is a big fan of Damien. This can be seen in her tweets.
Ahh, but Roisin talks so fast, unfortunately I can not understand everything. How can someone talksoooo quickly?
And I really love his hair.
Although I also hoped that he has shorter hair, I like it quite well.
Yes, the bowling alley ! And being a former broker. And actually owning the driving school and the bowling alley. So is this what Jon has been hiding and is the twist that he really was on a date? Or is there more?!
Sana, that is a great Question about Jon, it would be great to know people's thoughts on it.
Why did he take his date (who really did have a broken arm in the end!) to Marcellas's screening? After their drunken evening together, they've surely moved beyond the make each other jealous stage ? Could it be that Jon took Marcella's confession after the kiss as a rejection? Which it was in a way, but I saw it more as her revealing her vulnerability, until her convo with her flat mates later when she said Jon was too nice for her. Perhaps he thought he misread the signals. Perhaps it's his way of not appearing too rejected? The irony is, he's actually being the badder man that Marcella says she would go for. Really felt for Marcella in that scene, but maybe that's when she realises what she told her flat mates wasn't strictly true?
Also, think about it from broken arm lady's point of view - she really did have a broken arm but Marcella had persuaded Jon that it was en excuse not to have a date! So Jon is really doing the right thing as far as broken arm lady is concerned! (even if the chemistry between Marcella and Jon is undeniable and damn they need to get together).
Also, I'm more of an F bomber than a C bomber, but anyone else cheer when Marcella called Mr "I'm not a hundred percent ruling you out" guy a c***?
Sana, after their kiss, Marcella basically told Jon she had not been with anyone since Simon, and suggested they drink more wine.
Lots of laugh out loud moments in this ep! Roisin said that she didn't want to make a show that felt that it contained 'jokes' and I think she's succeeded very well..... One of my biggest laughs was Marcella shouting "give me the coke" and wrestling Billy (sorry William) for it as they stumbled out of the toilets. And yes! Mr "I'm not a hundred percent ruling you out" guy really was a c***!!!
I loved the effect of time passing as they jumped round the room steadily getting drunker (more drunk?) But I have to say the more we find out about Jon the more intrueged by him I am. A former broker who owns a bowling alley (but doesn't like bowling) and a driving school - but works as a driving instructor? That's just....odd!!
Are we about to discover that he also owns an alpaca farm??!?
I am well aware that I have a bad habit of looking for twists where none exist....but how totally certain are we that "broken arm lady" (Karen?) really was a date of the romantic interest variety? It all just seems a bit suspicious to me....
OK, we're three quarters of the way through but I think I'm finally on board. I really wanted to like the series but the first three episodes I found only mildly amusing and really, really hard to engage with. I even tried rewatching all three after the third one to see whether being more familiar with the characters would help. I was on the point of concluding that the humour just wasn't for me but I finally got some proper laughs out of this episode.
There were some great payoffs in this too, I loved Marcella's "What are you doing?" when the not-ruling-you-out guy failed to provide the "wanted" response!
I can't remember what Marcella called the horrible actor, something about 'goblin face'!!
Although a lot of the scenarios are exaggerated for comedic effect, it is still relatable. Who hasn't been jealous when they see someone they like dating someone else? Who hasn't said something awkward or embarrassed themselves when drunk? I totally get that it's not everybody's cup of tea though.
I did think Jon's reaction when Marcella told him she hadn't been with anyone since Simon was odd. He seemed disappointed I thought. I guess perhaps he thought she was rejecting him but her body language surely suggested otherwise. Or was he trying to be a nice guy and not 'take advantage' of her drunkenness.
Did she not sleep with the guy who'd never watched Friends?
