A hung-over and guilt-ridden Marcella has to face a date with Jon, while haunted by sex-flashbacks from the night before. Jon tries hard to impress, but Marcella is called away abruptly when Billy stages his own intervention. Marcella's family and friends gather together, but what starts as an attempt to reach out to Billy quickly turns into an afternoon of explosions, revelations and a whole lot of singing.
Just 3 days to go until the GameFace series finale!
Can. Not. Wait. But don't want it to ever end - so bittersweet!
So what do we think..
Will they ? Won't they?
Will Marcella and Jon finally get together in the finale (see what I did there!)
On the surface, my feelings are it would be the perfect magical shiny conclusion to a perfect magical shiny show and six wonderfully suspenseful weeks of Marcella and Jon. They share so much chemistry and tenderness, it would be a wrong doing of the universe if they never did. Marcella deserves to be free from Sssssssssimon (he is a snake) and to find happiness in a new relationship with a good guy.
BUT, will the timing ever be right for Marcella?
More importantly - what ending would guarantee Damien in series 2 (WHICH THERE HAS TO BE!)
Perhaps the end of the series will be a cliffhanger or perhaps it will continue as it has begun, with another almost but not getting it together in a delightfully funny scene.. will Marcella tell Jon she slept with Simon? Will their date go smoothly? It seems it probably won't... and can't...
I love the tension of the will they won't they. We all want them to get together but that would just be all too easy for Marcella who nothing ever seems to go quite right for!
I hope the getting together remains unresolved, to be honest. Something that could be further explored in season 2 (3,4).
I'm really enjoying this and not just because of Damien. Surely there will be a second series ( although Roisin said on Jonathan Ross that wasn't decided yet).
Hmm yes.. the quality of the writing suggests it will not be a straight forward ending.. nor would that be in keeping with Marcella's character. But, her getting together with Jon would not necessarily mean he wouldn't be in a second series, it could be hilarious watching a Marcella Jon relationship! But, I suspect it is not going to be smooth sailing for them both.
We also need Marcella to fail her driving test so she keeps needing driving lessons in series 2, 3 4.....
Or maybe she can begin needing bowling lessons?
Maghat I wondered if perhaps the conch will be used in the same way as Lord Of The Flies; in Billy's intervention! Noone can speak unless they hold the conch!
Ellie, I squeed with delight when Jonathan Ross asked Roisin C about a second series! HOW CAN IT NOT HAPPEN NOW?
That sounds mean, but I hope too Marcella does not pass her driving test. She definitely need driving lessons in series 2-5. I read that someone should sing. Jon ?? Besides, she has to get rid of Simon...

LOL!
Yes yes, more singing please! That is very much waaaanted (very sorry)
Yes! Perfect ending for a perfect series! I couldn't imagine how Roisin was going to write the ending.. but it was beautifully crafted. Can't praise the series or her enough. She has mad magical skills.
What a roller coaster ride for Marcella.. and for Marcella and Jon! He really is her 'ever-patient' driving instructor!
So many moments to love in this episode.. Damien's singing! THE JOY! It has reached new heights! So much smiliness going on. And we saw the bowling alley and the alpaca farm. And..ooh I have to re watch!
Wonderful! I can't believe it was the final episode - there just has to be another series.
I must say, Jon had a gallant attempt at Nessun Dorma, Puccini certainly wouldn't be turning over in his grave! I love Marcella and Jon as a couple - he has a calming effect on her and she relaxes him, making him enjoy life. He certainly seemed to go all out to impress.
Loved the dad calling his son BillyWilliam (or was it WilliamBilly?).
The ending left it wide open for another season. Please, please may there be one. I really enjoyed this - much more than Crashing.
Ha ha, Jon certainly knew how to deliver the best daytime date! He really showed Marcella that 'date' could be a thing! Arriving in his shiny beemer, his charm and wit, and singing (:big grin:) and bowling and the alpaca farm... he really was a lovely date! Marcellas flashbacks interspersed within their date made for hilarious viewing (especially the slapping omg) then cut to Jon's smiling face "let's ride"!
also in contrast with Simon, Jon really did come over as the totally good guy, in the end. And despite Marcellas traumatised face and almost out of body lack of presence after the night before -understandable, and great tool for more tension between her and Jon - there were glimpses again of the naturalness between them as a couple we'd seen in their impromptu date in ep 4.
I'm glad that Jon wasn't all the totally one note good guy all the way through, there were def layers to his character. In the pilot Jon did seem like the ever patient, always hanging around driving instructor was all he'd be in character tone. So much more to Jon in the end, his patience becoming barely contained seething, almost contained jealousy, frustration, awkwardness, and he was def not all passive or just reactive to Marcella, surprising moments, not just the singing, and incredibly funny in his own right .
Good to see Damien taking full advantage of the new Twitter 280 character limit!
Thank you for all your kind words about #GameFace... @Roisinconaty is a SUPERSTAR! Haven’t seen Episode 6 so I’ll be watching on @All4 tonight (if you’ve missed it, all six episodes are available there). If I remember right, there’s laughter, tears and lots of singing... enjoy!
I have to be honest. I got bored during the intervention scene. I thought is was kind of necessary. But overall this seasons was a lot of fun. It was so nice to see comedic Damo again.
The ending was nice. There is hope yet. I predict that Marcella will need years of driving lessons. ;)
