But with season two’s finale leaving many plots still wide open, star Damien Molony, who plays recovering addict Tyler revealed he doesn’t yet know how the drama concludes.
He shared to Metro.co.uk: ‘When I got scripts, I was leafing through the pages, what’s gonna happen, what’s gonna happen?
‘What’s even worse is I think they shot some alternate endings. So I don’t know necessarily which ending they’ve gone for.
‘I want to know! I’ll be tuning in, alongside everyone else, desperate to know what’s happened.’
Sharing more about the mood of the series finale, he added: ‘What’s great about series three is that everyone will have closure on what’s happening to all of these wonderful characters.
‘There have been so many ups and downs, huge emotional ups and downs for all of these characters. I guess it all comes to a head.’
The final season is set around a year after the previous, as Hannah and Nathan battle in their divorce with the latter moving on with new love Kate (Lara Pulver).
But it sounds things are about to get very tense indeed.
‘I suppose when we as actors are reading the scripts, you’re thinking, never mind the audience, are we going to be ready for the end of this?
‘These characters are so fascinating, I think people have gone through so much with them,’ he added.
The actor’s family and friends always beg him for details of the plot, telling us: ‘I’ve never been in a show on TV before where, where more of my family friends and family members tiptoe around me trying to subtly ask me [what’s going to happen]. Everyone wants to know!’
He also hinted at what’s next for his character Tyler, who fans saw celebrate his engagement to husband Zander Hale (Chukwudi Iwuji) in the finale before sharing a kiss with Nina (Annabel Scholey).
‘He’s now married to Zander, the last time we saw him, he was kissing Nina. I guess he is his fascinating, complicated character and he is an addict – he has found a kindred spirit in Nina,
‘All I’m really here to say is that none of the relationships in The Split are straightforward!’ Damien teased.
Damien lives nearby to his co-star Annabel, meaning they could easily spend time prepping together: ‘I live around the corner from Annabel, so we used to go for walks with our kids in the park and in the playground, just discussing the scenes and discussing the characters, which really, really great.
He was a brilliant character to play, and it was lovely to come back into it again.’
More from Damien, in another cast interview article from The Metro!
'As the series develops, Tyler finds himself in complicated positions and I think what was great for me was having [the writer] Abi on set all the time to navigate that with. It was difficult to sometimes know whether Tyler was knowingly reacting to certain situations or acting more instinctively – Abi was an absolute godsend,’ the actor noted.
But is Damien happy with how the series ends for Tyler? ‘I’m happy that everything is resolved for Nina,’ he teased.
I really, really want to know how everything turns out but I'm resisting binging!
I think Nina likes men who are attached elsewhere as she doesn't have to commit, plus she likes the thrill of it having to be hidden. Don't know if either she or Tyler would be willing to commit.
Be interesting to find out.
