As the Being Human Series 4 finale came to a shatteringly awesome conclusion,, it seemed all too soon that the new characters we have grown to invest in and love in a weekly Sunday worship, Vampire Hal ( Damien Molony ) and Werewolf Tom ( Michael Socha ) were to disappear into an abyss of unknown duration, leaving us stewing in our own purgatorial juices along with our sadness over the loss of ghost Annie ( Lenora Crichlow ) who in all her etherealness had become our rock solid companion and friend though the years; She Who Was the oh so beautiful heart of Being Human, helping us through the losses of Mitchell ( Aidan Turner ) Nina ( Sinead Keenan ) and George ( Russell Tovey ).
And So….The Thing That Got Us Through The Week…and into the next, vapourized with the closing credits.
But then, as the final credits rolled, along with our tears, the voice from within the screen spoke forth…. and the BBC Three Gods confirmed the return of the show next year!
According to actonthis.tv, He Who Must Be Praised creator and exec producer Toby Whithouse has confirmed the return of Damien Molony, Michael Socha and Kate Bracken (our new cool boot wearing resident ghost) for the series, which will consist of 6 x 60 minute episodes.
A whole year away seems a lifetime to wait, but..that’s a whole year of delicious anticipation for the glorious moment that we are invited back in to Honolulu Heights and the lives of our favourite supernaturals. And after the final mighty, magnificant and moving show, with stunning performances from the whole cast, I for one am already imagining that magnetic nuanced range of emotion Damien Molony brings to our angst ridden beautiful monster Hal unleashed on our screens next year.
So what do we Damien Molony fans want to see for Hal in Being Human Series 5?
• More backstory and past glimpses of Lord Hal – some of the past scenes between ‘bad’ Hal and Cutler in Series 4 were the most adrenalin rich, and how deliciously fun to see Damien Molony play the fedora wearing cigarette toking all out vampire juxtaposed with the present day Hal. Flashbacks to the past intensify the polarity between that and Hal’s increasing success at breaking the blood habit. More of the past accentuates the challenge and achievement he faces.
• The Origins of Lord Hal – where does he come from? he hinted at his human roots in series 4, was he happy to escape from that life? who is his vampire maker? why is he ‘Lord’ Hal? In fact an entire tangential series dedicated to Hal please!
• Both forget and remember the Being Human past – the time to move on from our losses will be in series 5, but the writing and allusions to past characters in Season 4 was not only necessary – to allow the audience to grieve and accept the new characters wholeheartedly as Annie did – but superbly consistently engaging. Legends deserve to be remembered, I hope the subtle past referential aspect of Being Human continues
• More of the multidimensional Hal – bad Hal/conflicted Hal/ big heart Hero Hal…and how about some Horny Hal? • Some Romantic Tension – the chemistry between Hal and Alex in series 4 was very compelling, and the dynamic between the two of them had become uber complex ( drinking someone’s blood but not being the one who killed then tends to do that ) all the makings a potentially very heady ****tail however their relationship evolves..but could there be some romance on the cards for Hal and Alex?
• Strictly Hal Dancing – personally, I am hoping for some Lord Hal in 1900s Argentina on the cusp of a good to bad turn
I am also very Kia-ora curious!!! It is kind of fun being kept guessing though........I wonder what happens??!??! from Pearl's reaction in the '1955' episode, it has to be MAJOR!!! any theories anyone? mine mostly involve lots of things I probably shouldn't repeat here
If we get flashbacks in series five then how about how he was recruited and who by. How did he become this feared Old One, what was he like at the very beginning.
He mentions that he goes in cycles, that he worries who the next one who claws to the surface will be, someone kind, someone cruel, i'd like to see an example of a 'kinder' Hal, was he anything like the Hal we know at the moment?
Yes, the love and sex angle, how would he deal with that, would he avoid at all costs no matter what or tentatively dip his toes in and if so, with who (and please, not Alex)
that would be interesting ruby, I almost imagine him never having succeeded in love, (unlike Mitchell with Jodie) he is such an intensely tragic character, so terrified of contact with women, there is that kind of deep wisdom in him from being so old and at the same time this almost..innocence of the heart? it adds to the intensity of his character, once that has tipped into 'that arena' the dynamic changes. May I ask...Why not with Alex? :)
Yeah.the Lord Harry angle is a must....it'll be fascinating historically and the storylines could be very juicy!
Well first of all i'm not a shipper, i don't do any ships. I like characters and not necessarily who they interact with though i will admit that Damien and Kate have a cracking chemistry.
The vampire/ghost love story has been done already with Mitchell and Annie (and don't get me started on that!) so i think it would be going over old ground there. I think it would be interesting to see Hal interact romantically with another character, someone new perhaps...another vampire (a female vampire on the wagon for example, surely there are more out there) or what about a werewolf, would that even be physically possible considering a vampire can smell a werewolf from a mile away and consider it repugnant and then there's the toxic blood angle.
With Lord Harry, given how old Hal is, the possibilities are endless (though unfortunately the BH budget is not)
Well how uncool am I having to look up what "shipper" means!! LOL!
I guess the foundations were laid for us in Series 4 for the Alex and Hal romance, but there is no knowing if or where that may lead... I like the idea of the tension contnuing but never fully being resolved. Liking the idea of a vampire or werewolf romance for Hal, the latter possibly more! look out Allison!
I'd like ALOT of tension/chemistry between Alex and Hal, but I don't want them to get together. Also, I would like him to be in the chair again *ahem* and act really evil while he's in there.. And some flashbacks, definitely!

Yes this, exactly. nothing resolved, the what if question mark ever hanging.. far more compelling. But I would like to see Hal exposed to more situations that challenge his reactions including passionate ones! Oh and wall to wall edge.
So no surprises here then that we would all like to see Hal get a little passionate. The possibilities are definitely there for flashbacks what with Kirby's tales of Catherine & Eleanor and Hal himself stating that he has seduced thousands of women.
I would also like to see just how Hal became an Old One. What did he do to gain the Old One status?
In current time I'd like to see Hal stay clean & get out of the chair (don't hate me I know you all love the chair). I'm not a Hal/Alex shipper so don't want to see that but why not let Hal have a Josie, after all he wasn't the one who killed Alex. He just might be strong enough to cope with a human partner after his current stint in the chair, and Alex's reaction to a bit of competition could be fun.

Oh goodness I could go on forever!! Umm let's see....
I would like to see a bit of tension (possibly sexual) between Hal and Alex, but I'm not sure if i'd want them to actually get together. I feel like they ruled out that happening by killing her. But I would like for Hal to maybe find a girlfriend of some sort!
I definently want to see more of the chair, but not for too long. Considering there will only b 6 episodes, I'd hate to c much more than about half an episode or so wasted on that.
Flashbacks! Ofcourse! Maybe from one of his good "cycles". Maybe we can see more of Cutler, Leo, Pearl, Fergus, and maybe even Mr Snow in the past.
And yes Ofcourse I would love to see what actually happens when he drinks Kia-Ora! I love hearing all the theories of what might happen (speaking of which, maybe we can start a Kia-Ora theories thread), but I'd love to know how it really affects him!
Now that's just some of what I'd like to see. Like I said I could go on forever!

It's a really nice look you've got going on there
Mmm, I would like to see Hal kill someone, but it has to be in a flashback! He's worked so hard to stay away from killing and he would be devastated if he killed someone again :(
Ooh and some pressups ofcourse, how could I forget!
edit: ooh indeed San, I would love to see the fangs again!

Hopes: More push-ups ;) and maybe more Evil Hal flash backs :D Fears: Hal doing some thing stupid like really hurting Tom or ... killing some one for blood Xx

Anyway, must dash. Friend about to kill lots of people.
we need to begin placing bets on whether Hal will be out of the chair when we return in series 5! It seems like a long time to be entirely chair bound, and also he can't do press ups in a chair.
@Becca I am holding about for an Argentinian Tango flashback (this brings many of my what i would like to see Hal wise hopes together simultaneously..possibly combined with the previous victims Kirby mentioned)
Do we know how Old Ones are made? is it simply a matter of age (or is that too simplistic?) for sure we are all definitely curious about the LORD part..
@Sami great point, flashbacks give the perfect opportunity for more of the characters we loved and lost all too quickly! lots of quality cameos would be very cool indeed.
@DamienMolonyArmy definitely more press-ups..hopefully Hal will have gone fitness mad, be working out at all opportunities and quite forgotten about putting on his suit..or top.. You have made me think about fears..yes indeed that would be utterly devastating...interesting how Hal has been very kept way from humanity when we met him in series 4.. in that sense he seemed a whole lot more complex and potentially fragile compared to Mitchell for example when we met him...with Hal the tension is ramped up because of that lack of interaction with people....
looks like we re all agreed that Hal and Alex tension / chemistry can continue but no actual romance ?
Thinking about it I think I'm way too greedy for it to all fit in one season.
I'd LOVE to find out what happens when he goes on Kia-Ora :D Even though it makes for lots of fun fanfic ideas, I'm really curious to see what they were thinking of when they wrote that little line in :D
Never enough Hal flashbacks, and I'd love to see where the Lord Harry thing comes from.
I also really like sensitive Hal and caring Hal, but I also really love to see more evil Hal. Although I must say, I'd love it best if Hal would stay sweet Hal in the present and we only get to see evil Hal in flashbacks
It seems I pretty much like to see Hal do everything I'm just not a big shipper and I hope they won't bring Alex and him together. I really liked his banter with her in the basement, but yeah, we've seen ghost dates vampire and for me it did not work out too brilliantly. Plus I'm a sucker for friendships :)
Ooh yes, I also like the thought of more push ups XD

I was giggling like mad when I saw the Argentinian tango picture again XD ihihihi that was a good idea, wasn't it? XD
This also suddenly gives me the idea of a work out-contest between Hal and Tom, and Alex holding the scores (in which we as viewers would obviously imagine ourselves as Alex).
So many interesting ideas you guys all have :D *plot bunnies arise*
You know.. thinking about it.. even though I am a sucker for making it all better for my favourite characters, I'm also a whumper, so in that sense it would fit really well if he did kill someone, as there is definitely something to make better then XD Plus, I'd like to see those fangs again.
And again. And again..
And we can get Tom be all protective of Hal then, or really mad at him and I love their friendship. even if it consists of yelling at each other.
LOL San! this!!! it could be like the vampire vs werewolf olympics!!
I wonder if the Beeb know that the boy can dance? after the press ups stunt the crew did on Damien (the one that made it onto the series 4 extras) if they knew about his dancing the mind boggles what they may ask him to do! *visions of Hal in a tutu even more awkward then the 'boyfriend" scene*
Sami, your post both made me Lol and have that little rush of adrenalin. Being Human wouldn't be Being Human without a bit of darkness.. and i do like it when it gets edgy. series 4 established the new characters and maybe now the storylines will get that bit darker...and the Hal extremes, ore extreme!
