lol, J-B a guess escargot many not be Hal's favourite thing to munch on, but then he is a very cultured man and it seems to me the more culture the higher up the weird and wonderful delicacies food chain a person is supposed to go... caviar anyone?

“Damien Molony, with a stare as deep and frightful as an empty grave, has a monologue on killing that may leave you slack-jawed with its power and delivery."  - A fantastic description. 

 I remember reading an interview with Toby Whithouse where he said that casting Hal was quite difficult because they needed someone who looked in their 20s, but had 500 year old eyes....and it's all there isn't it?  All 500 years, not just the "frightful..empty grave", but all of the love of life, despair, arrogance, threat, hope, fear.....you name it really!  

When I look through this thread, it makes me think of Damien's comment in an interview, that on tv you can almost breathe through your eyes.  Do you think he practises in a mirror?

 

I've spent an unreasonable amount of time trying to find these two interviews..... if anyone can point me towards either (or both) of them, I'd be really grateful

Regarding Toby picking Damien for the role, I feel that it was wise to pick someone unknown to the TV viewing audience. That way people wouldn't associate him with other roles. David Tennant is a case in point. He has done so many other roles but people will always think of him as The Doctor!

fifi, that LT interview rings a loud bell with me. It may have been from an SFX magazine interview from before S4 started airing, unless i'm just connecting that with the 'looks like he's 21 but he's really much older' vibe because that is from either SFX or Sci Fi Now.

I thought it was issue 63 of Sci Fi Now but while Toby talks about Damien, he doesn't talk about the Hal age thing and i know i've read it somewhere and it's going to bug me now til i find it...

Ruby - thank you! and sorry!  I have literally spent days looking for this interview in the past...and I'd started to think that maybe I'd imagined it, so I'm really pleased that it rings bells with you.  And sorry because it really bugs me too, and - as I said - I've spent days looking for this interview.......

To be honest I really can't remember if it was a written interview or not.  It could well have been a recording.  I don't have any recollection of the words on the page/screen, and I can quite often picture things I've read (I knew the Damien was a written one because I could remember seeing the words) but that's by no means a certainty.  I definately didn't read/hear it until after s4 had aired, but that doesn't help either!

Domino - thanks for the clip....one of my all time favourite tv moments ever!!
