Being Human vs True Blood...

We are all fans of Being Human but.....any True Blood fans out there? I enjoy the latter, but for me it doesn't even come close in terms of the level intensity, immersion and investment in the characters in Being Human!

The season 4 premiere of Being Human drew a whopping 4 times the number of viewers than the True Blood debut, 1.2 million to be precise.

So what is it, the nebulous quality that makes Being Human the best tv show on earth ??

What is your opinion ?

Haha! I can't be sorry I asked Pudas, I enjoyed reading your answer too much!

Yeah, while True Blood does still have character based storylines to me it has always seemed more focussed on the supernatural element somehow. Being Human has that domestic feel (that is probably the wrong word) of 3 housemates and the dynamic between them and their struggle to deal with every day life while having their own 'conditions' to deal with, which somehow makes the supernatural element even more epic, horrific, compellng.

Also perhaps Being Human is uniquely clever in balancing comedy, horror and drama? How can something  so so hilarious also be so intense and emotional and scary at times? For me it is a no brainer! I guess I was not drawn to Being Human because it has a vampire, or werewolf, or ghost, although i do like supernatural drama and films, it was just the dynamic and relationships first and foremost, but the way the vampires in particular have been portrayed as battling with their 'true nature' whichever that may be in the end, is incredible because it creates that constant tension and tragedy and has you investing in a character.

On teh queeziness factor, In Being Human I have to admit I felt a little queezy with the Alex meeting her demise episode and Hal's rabid maggot filled blood gobbling!!

Oh no!!! You want me to compare my two FAVORITE shows that are my "religion"? Lol... It's hard to compare the two, to me, True Blood is more "right on" with the vampire way such as; they can't come out in the daylight, they can fly (some of them) and they have fast speeds... However, I do agree with ya that Being Human is more character oriented and tells more of their backstory as to where they are coming from.
Since I am a fan of both, I am very lucky that they are on at separate times, True Blood is how I am going to make it through my summer without new eps of Being Human...
BUT, I will have to say if I really had to pick one, it would probably be Being Human, I can get through ALL the episodes without feeling queesy!

The Alex meeting her end episode and Hal eating the, um, maggots got to me too... Lol, as with True Blood and being more for the super natural, that I do agree. Season 2 of True Blood was NOT that great because they focused on more of the Mary Ann character and it got boring after awhile... I got the fact that she was a bull thingy, (see, so boring I forgot what they call her! Hahaha...) The part in that season that I can say made me more quesy than Hal and the maggots is when Sookie got attacked by the bull thingy and the "nurse/healer" lady was digging out her back!!! Oye!
Anyhoo, I started watching Being Human here in the US because I like vampires, however when I watched the first episode, it stole my heart because of the story lines and how they all became friends. Thanks to Netflix, I found the UK version and there went my heart to Mitchell... I have liked the UK version a bit more than the US... And one thing the UK version now has that the US doesn't.... Of course, MY... ahem... OUR hal!!!!

Aha!! the close of your argument resonates with me Pudas! My closing argument in the True Blood vs Being Human debate?? The lead Vampires in Being Human are wayyyy sexier!

That is a very good point with the lead vampires being sexier, But, I LOVE Eric Northman! He is one sexy vampire too... Lol... But, Hal and Mitchell do have my heart! I also Love Aidan(Sam Witwer) biggrin in the US version... Do they show that version in the UK? confuse If so have you all seen it?

I only watched a few episodes of True Blood. It's a good show but I don't watch it regularly. I would not compare it to BH. BH is so different. :) I have to say I prefer BH.

Conflicted, After I learned that the UK version was first I was kind of disappointed in the US version, I thought it was going to be the same stories. And even though some things are the same it has it's own "personality". I too have a multiregion (so my bro says)lol DVD player, so I am impatiently waiting for the arrival of my series 4 BH DVD... No store in my area (Tucson, AZ) would order it for me... Anyhoo, the second season of the US version is ok... Not too bad, some similarites but not too much this season, to me anyway...

Eileen, I watch True Blood "Religiously" lol. I have seen every episode and am counting down the days until the season 5 premiere! It is different than BH and I like them both, I think I would be lost if I only saw a couple episodes though.. lol...
