Thats how I reacted too! I was thinking, imagine if they cast him at the new master. I can see it and we haven't had a new master since season 4. What do you guys think?

glofigs, the idea of DaMo as The Master had been around for quite a while, as well as DaMo as the nexgt Doctor and DaMo as the 'new Rory'! he'd be brilliant at it, for me it may be a little too narrow and one dimensional for his talents - but it would be FUN to see him play an out and out baddie!

Wow...absolutely and completely epic!!

Matt and David were fantastic, separately and together. They just zinged off each other and John Hurt was wonderful too, a bit of gruff gravitas where it was needed.

The final coming together of the Doctors was utterly amazing and i did squeak and clap my hands at that sneaky Twelve reveal, speaking as someone who hadn't been sold on Capaldi initially, i may be slowly warming to the idea. And Tom Baker at the end, another gasp when i heard that inimitable voice.

Wonderful, wonderful episode, it was lovely to see David back on screen as Ten, always wonderful to see Matt as Eleven.

The Christmas episode is gonna be tough methinks.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Thoroughly enjoyed that. And seeing all the Doctors was simply lovely. Domino's already mentioned all the extra 'eeek!' moments. I'll just add I especially enjoyed the Derren Brown gag. And I was hoping the Tardis could land/be put on the spare plinth in Leicester Sq. I think the Tardis would have liked that.

And how much did I love Adventures in Time and Space? Loads.

I did enjoy the episode - thought it was well crafted and filmed and there was enough tension to keep you enthralled - but thought it was completely overhyped and so I think I wanted it to be awful, so I could moan about it, if you get what I mean.

It felt different as well because we watched it in 3D, so some of the effects, such as the status cube paintings, sis work really well.

I finally caught up with 'Adventures....' and adored that too. The cameo at the end was spoiled for me on FB but when I did see it, it still packed quite an emotional punch. David Bradley's resemblance to William Hartnell was downright eerie at times.

Day of The Doctor was brilliant. Smith, Tennant and Hurt were fantastic. Loved seeing a glimpse of Capaldi. Although lovely to see Tom Baker i wish we saw William Russell too. It would have had a nice little extra seeing as Ian is a school govener now.

Also did everyone watch the Five (ish) Doctors on the red button? It was so funny. Colin, Slylvester and Peter are a brilliant comedy team:)

My big sis was going on about The Five(ish) Doctors. I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere.

On the basis that there is probably only one violinist of my age in the UK called Ed Butt (it's a pretty distinctive name!)....turns out I used to know the guy who wrote the music for An Adventure in Space and Time!  And, apparently, he also wrote the music for a series of Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, In the Flesh...the list just goes on......

What did everyone think of the Christmas special?  I thought it started off strong but kind of went down hill at the end.  It seemed a bit overly fan service-y for my taste. I think Matt did a good job with it though.  (Being intentionally vague to avoid spoilers.)

I think part of it is that I'm just too excited about the return of Sherlock to really focus.

I really enjoyed Day of the Doctor.  It was good to see Tennant again.  I really miss his Doctor.

After the mediocrity of last season, I really enjoyed the Chrissy episode. I enjoyed Matt and I really liked Clara for the first time. Seemed a bit confusing but I got the hang of it eventually. I never thought the Time Lords were actually calling him Dr Who! I assumed that was a cut off question. A bit over cooked - just like a turkey - so fitting. And it did pull at the old ticker. Sniff!

I liked that the regeneration was typically Eleven over the top dramatic speech and effects but the actual transformation from Eleven to Twelve was quick, blink and you'd miss it.

I was fine until the appearance of Amy and the 'goodbye raggedy man' line. Then i was in tears. It also didn't help that this morning i caught the 2010 Who Proms on Watch Channel, Matt's first one and oh my God the feeeelllsss!!

I honestly felt it lacked a bit of energy, perhaps nothing could match the pizazz and mightyness of the 50th anniversary ep, and it may have become victim of it's own hype (which nothing could match up to!) but I just felt that Matt Smith deserved a way more epic departure from the show.
Peter Capaldi's arrival left me feeling a tad deflated as well, and I couldn't help but wonder how different that would have felt if it were DaMo!!That said, i did watch the whole episode, which is more than I can say for most TV over christmas!

I found Clara really annoying in this episode tbh. I liked them showing him getting old and fixing the toys best. The regeneration was very fast, but I didn't mind that really.

It was a good episode after second viewing. Smith gave a lovely performance. I also liked the Five Doctor's referance. I did have a tear in my eye at the end. I liked the quick regeneration. The show isn't back until September now.

Any thoughts on Capaldi's full debut which aired last night?

The jury is still out for me. I know there are folk out there who instantly adored him and that's fine. I instantly adored Matt and some didn't (my parents loved Ecclestone and Tennant for instance but couldn't get used to Smith)

For the first, maybe half of the show i heard Matt's lines come out of Peter's mouth and it was odd. I kept thinking, if this was Matt, it would be sensational and it took me a good while to shake that feeling. It felt as though the writer was still writing for Matt and not realised he wasn't the Doctor any more. I feel like we didn't fully get the measure of the New Doctor. Maybe that was deliberate. For me, he'll take some getting used to and that may be in part to the fact that i was pretty 'meh' about Capaldi getting the role and to some extent i still am. The building excitement for the new series has completely passed me by. I'm hoping that i'll get into the new Doctor as we get to know him as the series progresses. I'll keep watching and reserve judgement.

I did like Clara in the episode, especially her reaction to the Doctor's new face. That phone call though was a knife in an already tender heart for me. And did anyone get the impression that the Old Doctor wasn't just talking to Clara about her helping the New Doctor? Anyone feel that it was being directed to those fans who, like me, aren't quite sure about the New Doctor themselves? It certainly felt like it.

I plan on watching it tonight.  I'll let you know if I have any thoughts.  I'm feeling pretty 'meh' about Doctor Who in general these days.  I haven't really liked it since Tennant and Davies left.  I've wanted to like it I just haven't been able to.

For me it was little disappointment. Capaldi is a great actor, but writers should think what they are doing. This episode was dull. He didn't get to show his talents at this episode and really shine (which would have been very important for the first impressions) but I'm looking forward the next one and see now that they have get over about his regeneration what kind of Doctor he will be.

I think in this ep writers were trying to create that illusion that he is still the same Doctor, only with new face that this guy is as good as old one, little bit different but funny as always and very Doctor like (I think that's why he had lots of Matt lines, but I'm not sure will he have in the future).

Whole episode seemed to be about that, accepting Capaldi as a new Doctor. Tennant and Smith bravely jumped in to the role in their first episodes, no matter if they get accepted, they didn't give room for fans to be accepted they just were accepted as the new Doctor.

But this isn't Capaldi's fault, writers decide what's going to happen and actors have to do their best. Still I feel bad that Capaldi had more apologizing episode that he is the new Doctor now than Tennant and Smith.

And they were trying to give Smith fans goodbye and new Doctor chance to win hearts over. So, I'm going to give Capaldi a chance to win my heart. But still, little disappointing episode.. Thank god for Strax, he made my laugh many times<3

Ruby, I felt that way for the first half of Matt Smith's first episode when he took over from David Tennant.  I think part of that is because you don't want to let go and part of it is on purpose so it isn't so jarring for the audience.

The first 15 minutes were kind of rough but overall I thought the episode was okay.  It was mostly trying to tell the audience not to dislike Capaldi as the new doctor just because he's old, which I'm totally down with.  If he will calm down a bit and not run around acting all hyper when there is no need like Matt Smith did I think he'll be alright.

I never liked Matt Smith's doctor so I am not really unhappy to see him go (not that I have anything against him personally or as an actor in general) so that may be swaying my judgement a bit.

I'm still not a fan of Clara. Sorry. She's still meh.

I hope that they will focus more on the problem of the week rather than some overarching plot or whatever. I'm so tired of Calara's forced mystery and I liked Rose but I was never keen on the Bad Wolf thing either.  I want the companion to be a companion and not some special snowflake.  I think that's one of the reasons I liked Martha and Donna. They kicked ass on their own without needing some mystery to make them special.

How did the police and lizard lady know to go to the restaurant and when to show up?  Anyone?

I agree, there was too much apologising for an older actor. Just get on with the story! And stop insulting Capaldi. Let him be the Doctor you hired him for! And if there's a reason why they want him calmer and older, let that come out with the story. I took it as a transitional episode and I expect it to get better. There were fine things. The chief robot was cool. And he got to where he wanted to go and found Michelle Gomez. Hope we see more of her.

I like this Clara too. The arrogance is gone ... but have they retconned her? I don't mind the arrogance being a shield and that shield dropped ... why? Is this the first time her life has been in danger after a season of adventures in space and time? And with that experience, she had to call on the memory of her first day as a teacher and a lippy lost teen? I don't get it. I appreciated her brain found the solution she needed but at the time, experienced adventurer that she is, it jarred.

Do better, Moffat. Do better.

The characters I enjoyed the most were Vastra, Jenny and Strax.  I wish they hadn't had to present the Vastra x Jenny kiss as "sharing oxygen".
