This almost didn't happen when the first guy screwed up the placement of the needle, but fortunately a more experienced lady swooped in to save the day. So I'm sore on both arms. But always worth it. So now I'm 11 pints lighter. (well, not all at once, obvs.) I'd be lying if I said this retweet wasn't one of the biggest motivating factors...

I saw the retweet first thing this morning! Hope you got a good night's sleep as a result of giving away a pint and you don't suffer too much bruising as a result of the botched first placement, Whimsy!
Maghat, I did have to sleep extra that night. Not sure if I'd call it a good night's rest, just that I needed extra sleep like when I'm sick.
Ellie, my 1st donationation at 18 was like that. The lady had to sit there massaging my arm for like an hour. Major black and blues and looking back I'm surprised they did that. Two summers ago I had one where the flow stopped when the bag was about 90% full. Which meant they threw it away, it has to be completely full because of the ratio of the anticlotting agents inside the bag. That was depressing and this is my first time back. I think both those times I just wasn't hydrated enough.
Domino, I told her next time I'd actually request her and she said she actually had other donors that do! Barely even felt the initial sting from the iodine. She has a magic touch!

Glad to hear you will have your own personal blood taking nurse in the future whimsy ! It is a great thing you are doing and you deserve that kind a reassurance and care for the future. x
Damien has made is 16th (that he has mentioned) blood donation!
He shared the news via an Instagram story on his official Instagram page, with a photo of his arm a few days after giving blood with the following words:
“CHEEKY PINT ON FRIDAY
#ONEPINTLIGHTER #GIVEBLOOD @GIVEBLOODNHS “
(Damien Molony Instagram Story 17 September 2018)
Are you a fan who has been inspired to give blood by Damien? Come and tell us about it here!
About 20 year ago I started to donate blood. It was a struggle, I have hidden veins. They managed the first three visits, but at the fourth they couldn't fnd the vein, so I left very disappointed. I visited a fourth time and again they couldn't fine a vein. I think I was so downhearted I couldn't go again.
I do regret I didn't persever. I think I would have become a plasma donor as I am what is called the universal resispient (AB+)
I so glad that Damien and a lot of his fan do.

Thank you for sharing your blood donation story Ann, it sounds like you were very brave and did persevere! What happened to you is not uncommon, and it is shame that that one time has put you off. Maybe you will feel inspired and able to again at some point? Well done for the donations you have made!
I quite understand, Ann. I received a lot of blood (8 pints) after the birth of my first, and really wanted to donate. However, I took ages to give blood and after half a dozen times was asked not to give again, as it just took too long and it was hard for them to find a vein. I still feel guilty!
Sadly I'm not allowed to anymore (Stupid kidneys). I asked my doctor a few years ago if I could, but he said no. I really would if I could, needles don't bother me at all.
