I'm not a expert but it looks to me like a uniform from the 1800s. I think the army wore red (so they could see each other!) and the navy wore blue, but that's only the British army.......

I should add that this is based mainly on the 'Hornblower' TV series!

Nah...this is Hal on his way back from a fancy dress party, hiding behind a wall from some adversary! obvs!

Agree with you all this is later than 16thC, but I am with you HalGal, very much hoping we do see Hal's recruitment!

To say my knowledge of military costume is limited would be an understatement, but I agree with you fifi that the red coat was the colour for the army uniform for quite some centuries. Interesting that you mention the navy, i was asking about this way back when I created the How Well Do You Know Lord Harry Quiz, as I had assumed Hal had had a former career in the navy from his prequel, where he mentioned 'I ran away to sea', although it was an army surgeon who turned him! However in that infamous 1855 flashback at the beginning of series 4 episode 3 with Hal and Fergus in the english house terrorizing and killing the female servants, Fergus is clearly in a army uniform. So this is deliciously intriguing.

I'm delighted that Hal has been around long enough to have so many stories about his past just waiting to be told. Clearly there are several series' worth of material to keep his character active in BH. I really couldn't tolerate another "Mitchell" situation.

But not 500 years worth of budget....i do want flashbacks though, if Being Human had the same kind of budget that i imagine Doctor Who has then they could have some serious fun!

A date for the jacket? Napoleonic times perhaps, Waterloo and thereabouts?

If we are saying napoleonic, I'm going for the light Dragoons or a sergeant or something, not the regular army as thye were red uniforms (I think!) So why not the British cavalry?! the blues rather than the redcoats? we know he "had a horse once" and I believe their uniforms were blue?!

I love the new work clothes better than the striped aprons from S4. Nicely dressed, ties and all, at a posh new place!coolbounce

However, it looks the ketchup-squirting has elevated to all-out food fighting in the new series. no Tsk, tsk, naughty boys!
