I've kept coming here over the last few days, clicking 'reply' and staring blankly at the screen while my thoughts race round my head in an uncontrolled and chaotic fashion, then logging out and quietly slinking off again. Then, yesterday, I felt inspired.....but half way through a fairly long post my tablet crashed (I know....i should use the mobile version to post on on my tablet, but then I can't see the pictures!) and I just couldn't face starting again.
It almost seems pointless now that we are about to be hit with the lastest spoilers!, but I'll see if I can retrieve any of it from my brain.
I think the problem is that what I want to see from hal, and the opportunities to see damien at his best, are not necessarily what I want to see from being human!
Spoiler
I agree, Katy, that just because hal has recruited somebody, that doesn't necessarily mean frenzy. I also find it hard to get my head round the idea that hal could kill at all without total carnage ensuing considering what we have learnt about him..... a new cycle and all that.
If that was to happen, then the series would be very hal-centric and for the sake of future being human, I don't really want that (did I really just say that?), but I must admit that as it gets closer I'm finding it harder and harder to be.......rational?!
Has the thought occured to anyone else that in the 'hal manager' picture he looks remarkably self assured?
I feel that this is going nowhere and is ultimately pointless.........
Yes, domino. That just about sums up what I was wanting to say. Thanks for translating!
I agree about the multilayerdness, but you do need to have it all there to get the layers. I suppose S4 managed that by using flashbacks...and it seems pretty certain that s5 will have flashbacks too. This series is only 6 eps long after all, and there will be tom and alex stories to cover too, so hal's journey can't be too expansive.
domino, what you said, !!! You hit the nail on the head!
your thoughts on Hal being masterful in suits has sparked a random rambling in my head. I need to go off and gather my thoughts to post what I'm thinking of.....

fifi, not so much a ramble about him being masterful, just a ramble about his suits and clothes in general.
really not sure I should post this because it's very long and rambly and doesn't make much sense. and I'm probably all wrong anyway! I'm the least observant BH fan (I blame The Molony Effect) but obviously BH crew/TW & writers have intentionally crafted visual clues about Hal's state for us in how Hal dresses.
S5
1855: dark pants from a uniform, covered in blood, lots of red
1955: sharp suits, dark colors, tan overcoat, red tie
Prequel: dark colors, part suit, casual, no red
Episode 1 & 2: tan & white, stuffy tweed suit, no red
Episode 3: tan & white, casual, no red (not counting the apron)
Manager Hal: dark colors, suit but more casual, red tie
Spoiler
Awkward, Good Hal is in light tans and whites when we first meet him. When he's in the cafe he starts off still with white shirt and tan slacks. They've introduced red into the picture, the stripey apron, but I don't think that's part of what Hal CHOSE to wear. As the series progresses he starts wearing the navy blue/dark clothes and the coat with the red buttons. Suave, Bad Hal is in sharp double breasted suits with a red tie. In his prequel he's dressed sharply, but missing the jacket and red tie, so he's dressed half light, half dark. The soldier picture has him in again navy double breasted type coat with splashes of red. However, that fan encounter photojavascript:mctmp(0); shows him in the tan tweed again. And back to the suits, Manager Hal, who like you said does look quite smug, is in navy with a red tie. So, where am I going with that. Not sure now. LOL
I guess I'm trying to say when he wears the tan and white, no red, he's in "good Hal" mode. when he's got the dark colors, and splashes of red, he's in "bad Hal" mode, but I think the severity of "badness" changes depending on how formal he is? So the way I'm warping this to fit my logic is, in S5 I still believe him in good Hal mode, but the introduction of red and dark colors lead to him slipping (drinking blood, but not killing). I think that will continue onto S6, Manager suit with red tie, he's slipped and I don't think he will go all the way back to good Hal. But I don't think he'll suddenly become all-out Bad Hal. That manager suit isn't quite as formal, and I think it's technically a uniform? He probably would not have chosen it. But he's still wearing the navy blue clothes and that jacket. The Soldier uniform, hmmm, I saw some spoilers so I don't want to speculate if he's good or bad in that. Plus the 1855 flashback doesn't quite fit my logic as he wasn't in uniform, but he was in the army, should have similar uniform to Fergus, right. The tweed suit suggest we'll see him in good mode at least once in flashbacks.
So overall my prediction is that overall he will be at the cusp of good/bad throughout S6 and the flashbacks will also mirror that. Not the two extremes like we had in S5.
Phew, I warned you it would be a ramble. Feel free to delete this if it makes absolutely no sense. I need to get more sleep! LOL
