I can see something like Star Wars being a dream for him. Like Bond or Indiana Jones - what little boy wouldn't like to play with lightsabres? smile

I personally grew up with Star Was and while I agree we aren't talking riveting drama here - originals are better and the 'Prequels' didn't live up to them - you have to consider that JJ Abrams is directing. The original Star Trek was quite camp (I liked The Next Generation but wouldn't touch the ones with Kirk & Spock with a ten foot pole) Look what JJ Abram's has done with the new movies.  Plus the general trend, such as Batman and Superman and Bond for that matter, is going grittier, more drama less gadgets and hoaky.  I think we shall be pleasantly surprised with Episode VII.

Pearl it takes place after Return of the Jedi.

Ruby yeah it's all just speculation. Personally the selfish me is still hoping for a play so I can plan a trip to England. LOL

I can't see him in Star Wars or Star Trek but I do love me some modern Star Trek.

J J Abrams is a great director. Look what he did with Fringe, one of my all time favourite TV shows, second only to Being Human.

I can only second - and third and forth - that with JJ in charge, Damien being in Star Wars would be a good thing.

I adore the original star wars trilogy (shall I mention my youthful infatuation with Han Solo again?)....and thought the prequels were.....disappointing (no Han Solo....and I'm a little older?)!!  I am, however, cautiously optimistic about the upcoming films.

Would I actually like to see Damien in a Star Wars film?  Well, obviously my answer would be yes....and no!!!  Because apparently I'm incapable of making a straightforward decision about anything!  But if whimsy's premonition were to come true then I'm pretty sure my cautious optimism for the success of the films would soar to total optimism!

When I finally got around to voting in this poll I voted for tv like the majority of people.  I must admit that all of this speculation makes me realise how much I really mean that (although a bit of theatre along the way certainly wouldn't go amiss!)

Ruby - you think he's still filming for Ripper St?  I must admit that I'd assumed he'd finished.....so I'm hearted to think I may be wrong - thank you!!  As the one thing that we know for certain is happening, I'm really hoping that it's not just a single episode deal (although it's such a long wait until it airs.....)  And yes....everything seems to have gone very quiet on the Dr Who front.  The endless waiting game for press releases from the BBC continues......

fifi: I believe so. He's been in Dublin since the end of April, he's tweeted about a variety of places in Dublin -just today he's tweeted twice, one about something coffee related (and mentioning his 'next day off') and another about an Arts Centre in Dublin he's planning on visiting, tonight i think. He tweets London type things too but right now, his life seems to be Dublin orientated (and that did not sound stalkerish at all in my head!) and Ripper Street is filmed in Dublin so i think it's very safe to assume he's still filming Ripper Street which i'm assuming means that his role, whatever it is, is longer than just an episode. It could be recurring, he could be a new regular, we don't know just yet. Filming for Ripper Street is expected to finish at the end of August, i could be wrong but it looks like all eight episodes are being filmed in one fell swoop.

Had to do a double take. I just assumed it was Harrison! Damien really would be perfect.

Well, he's been in Dublin on and off since April and it is now nearly July so I am ever optimistic that he is in more than one episode.

I agree Pearl. It's a shame he can' tell us. He used to tweet during the filming of Being Human and I miss those kind of tweets from Ripper Street. I guess he can't send any.

I like to think that his tweets are code for us.  He knows we are astute and *ahem* determined.... he can't say anything about filming, but he tweets about what he's doing in his free time in Dublin, even saying "my next day off".

yeah right....

So I was thinking the other day.  Hal in the chair with Crumb.  Bad Hal coming out to play.  That voice, that smug smile - that's Han Solo right there!!!!!  Good looking swashbuckling smug bastard.  And as much as I usually wince at manipulations - He totally looks like Harrison Ford in that picture. biggrin

So will the poll be right? when we next see Damien, will it be in a TV role in Ripper Street? or perhaps some theatre work before then..or? action

I've been mulling this over for a few days now.......but I'm pretty sure that Damien's ADR/Ripper St tweet was on the same day as Sarah Dollard tweeted that they were doing the first script read through for The Game.  So I would guess that means Damien is unlikely to have a part in The Game...... I must admit that, much as I'm looking forward to seeing him in Ripper St, (.....just a bit, lol!) I would LOVE to have seen him play another character created by Lord Toby......so, churlish as it may seem - all things considered, I am just a little bit disappointed.......

I noticed that too fifi, and wondered the exact same thing, although speculation either way can only be that, speculation... and lots of maybes can remain. I would love to see Damien in another Toby drama one day, whether it be The Game or something else... they both have long career ahead of them still so never say never!

For those who don't know, BH creator Toby Whithouse is making a Cold War spy thriller 'The Game', the first script read-throughs were on the same day as Damien tweeted about doing additional dialogue recording for Ripper Street.

So I was thinking the other day, Damien is appearing on TV (RipperStreet), stage (WordTheatre) and Radio ( The Commitments) all before Christmas! We are very lucky fans!

all that is left is the big screen and i have no doubt that will happen for him one day!

We are very lucky! Definitely spoiled this holiday season. I'm very grateful for it.

I am sure his day on the big screen will come. What an amazing day that will be too!

I think it would be lovely for Damien to get something where he was the headliner again.  Since he's done TV, reading, radio... seems his streak would indicate a play next? aww  Or he's picking small things in anticipation that he has a big film commitment coming up.... speculation....

Ha! you are an absolute hoot Kat!

Films is an area Damien has expressed an interest in going into, but from my selfish perspective I'd also love him to stay eclectic and do everything. Yep. pretty much everything would be cool.

I don't doubt that it will come soon whimsy.

I am delighted at his castings this year since Being Human, especially Ripper Street, which seems as if it may be a bigger part than we originally thought!

It comes across to me that he really enjoys the Word Theatre stuff so I think he would continue to do that regardless of whatever else comes his way. And obviously the lady from BBC NI fancies him which is why he keeps getting booked for them!

Would love to see him in a film, completely, but it just moves him further away from us all. It's a nice "safe" fan community atm and a decent film could see him go stratospheric and it would all become a lot more clinical and less "homely" - but that's my selfishness rather than him...

Oh I agree that doing everything would be brilliant, but you look at Benedict Cumberbatch who has had an amazing couple of years, and you see the mentalness of the fans (which I have encountered in my boyband days) and it's wearing; on him particularly but also on the fans that aren't so pushy.

Lol! I guess there will always be uber fans! I'm sure we look mental to some! But we'll always be the originals. I honestly don't think in those terms though. Benedict Cumberbatch has a fab career, it would be amazing if Damien's went a similar way!
