What's a 'craic'? Please excuse my boorish American ways.

Craic is basically another word for fun. Often involving plenty of drink, lol!

 I completely agree with you, Whimsy.  I was a huge fan of a band called 100 Monkeys.  The lead singer was an actor called Jackson Rathbone.  He played in Twilight, Clive Barker's Dread, and The Last Airbender...if anyone doesn't know who he is.  The band was an indie band brought together in tribute to a childhood friend of a few of the members who sadly lost his life to adrenal cancer at the age of 20 in 2006.  His name was Spencer Bell.  The band played all over the country, literally living out of a van, and they played small bars and venues where the fans could actually be close and interact with them.  I was lucky enough to have seen them play 3 times as a band before they disbanded, and on my 3rd show, I was blessed to actually get to meet them all (I have a photo with them on my Facebook).  That closeness to an artist, actor, celebrity of any kind is a lovely thing to have.  It makes the fame they go on to rise to an even sweeter achievement down the road, and a more precious memory for the ones who knew him/her "from the beginning".  I can totally feel your pain, and I echo your sentiments to wish him only more success.

Since I live here in the Southern USA, I don't really hold much hope of ever getting to meet him in person, but hey, a girl can dream, right?

Eww I hope not. I think he has more artistic integrity than that. I know he wants to be in film, but plenty of actors have managed that without going to Hollywood.

I know what you mean Elyse, but for me it would be too simplistic to dismiss the whole of Hollywood as without artistic integrity. My point I think is that Damien has potential to go very far as an actor and internationally,!

I am trying to put a positive spin on his future, rather than trying to hold HIM to Hal forever. We do have Hal forever anyway if you think about it. Believe me... I share everyone's sadness in this topic, this forum was inspired by Hal, and Hal and Being Human have played a bigger part in my life than you all could possibly know, but I choose to be excited for the career of the man who brought us this unforgettable character, because the potential is staggering! giddy

I was actually just watching Making Rosebud and Hurlyburly and thinking the exact same thing.  I don't find myself thinking about Hal at all when watching these characters.  I think that Damien will always make whatever part he plays seem as if it was written for him.....and, however much I will miss Hal, I find that a very exciting prospect!

I don't know... I have several friends who work for film studios in LA, and I think it's safe to say that Hollywood has a very short supply of any kind of artistry. That's not to say it's non-existent, just rare. It's all about the money, as they say.

I fully agree that Damien could very easily become a household name. I just doubt he ever will be... such a thing usually requires selling one's soul. Besides, he already has international stardom!

I'd really like to see Damien in more indie films... those tend to be more challenging roles anyway.

 Yes, you are right.  When I watched Making Rosebud and Hurlyburly, Damien IS that character.  Oh the talent on this man!  I do wish we'd get some info on Ripper Street.  Seeing him in the period garb made me giddy to find out what character he will be.  He looks so sweet & innocent in that picture, but what if he's really bad!  (and I know I'm straying OT, sorry....)

@fifi aw, I am glad you have found that place of excitement too fifi!

@Elyse, we will have to agree to differ on this one! I actually enjoy a good blockbuster popcorn movie, as well as an indie film! for my own selfish hopes I would love Damien to have an eclectic filmography to meet my eclectic tastes. He has said in interviews that he would love to work with Spielberg, Tarantino, Scorcese and Haneke. That's eclectic and there are some hollywood directors who I'd not dismiss in one fell swoop!

But ulitmately I hope Damien gets to pick and choose and travel in direction HE wants to and not become a puppet of the industy OR the fans.

@Whimsy Yes!

I agree wholeheartedly! I hope I don't come across as snobbish... I just happen to have a lot of friends in the industry and it has colored my opinion of the whole business. But I would like to see Damien get everything he deserves! He really is a talent.

  Not snobbish at all Elyse, we just have different opinion on films we enjoy to watch!

We have a great discussion topic you might enjoy, on films we would like to see Damien in here!
