I was underwhelmed by the Moriarty reveal too and Andrew Scott totally one me over in Reichenbach. Maybe he's Moriarty's brother.

Nice to see this thread back up - despite the lack of show!

Definitely looking forward to seeing the period episode. Is it due for Christmas?

It is supposed to come out around Christmas.

I'm not sure about the period episode.  I'm not sure what the purpose of it is, especially since Moffat has said it is self contained and separate from the rest of the series.  There are plenty of period Sherlocks out there.  I really like the modern Sherlock.

I'm not saying I won't watch it though.  I will.  I've been waiting too long for anything.

And by what was revealed I don't think Gatiss and Moffat have much of one either! And yet they totally get away with it!

I think the period one is just for fun!

Sure it will all make sense, maybe a murder at a murder party and everyone has to come in period costumes and Holmes and Watson were invited.... Thats just thinking now....

I didn't think it was suppose to make sense. I thought they were just doing one in late Victorian times. Because. But maybe it does tie in with the actual show they established.

I know. I'm assuming it's going to be a Christmas thing.  No real idea though.

I used to work at Tyntesfield, (a National Trust house near Bristol), and they filmed part of the Christmas Special there. I wasn't allowed to watch any of the actual filming, but I saw some of the actors in costume and how the sets were dressed. Plus Benedict Cumberbatch left his script in the green room, and I found it when I was cleaning. Managed to resist the temptation to read it, or steal it and put it on eBay...

biggrin

I have mixed feelings about spoilers...
Though I do know the identity of at least one person who dies, as I opened a door for them at one time and saw they were covered in fake blood!

Apologies for posting on this thread. But I need to rant

I totally loved this version of Sherlock (Well the first 6 episodes). They were brilliant, funny and very clever. Benedict and Martin's chemistry was off he scale.  All of the other characters just added to the brilliance.  I loved the back and forth fightening between Sherlock and Moriarty.

There 6 episodes culminated in the the last episode, with Sherlock seeming to throw himself off the top of the hospital to his death, till it as revealed his was alive.  Like lots of other people I devoured websites and newpapers to hear how other people though he had done it. There were many theories.

And so came the moment we were going to learn, how it was done (Finally) BUT...we didn't...no the first episode of season 3 was Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis mocking all those who had tried to come up with ways that Sherlock had managed to pull of such an amazing trick.  Because really people should have just been glad that he was alive and not concern themselves with, how it was actually done.  I think the resaon why we have never had a proper solution, is because they could not come up one.  They knew people would point out flaws.

Season 1 & 2  Brilliant wow

Season 3 & 4  well I hated them. Mary   Sherlocks sister   All of it

I'm with you Dingleannie.  I loved seasons 1 and 2 and hated the rest.  I watched 3 hoping they would turn it around and they just made me even madder with season 4, possibly for different reasons.

I grew up watching the Granda series with Jeremy Brett because my mother watched it.  I always wondered if Holmes and Watson were living together and in a relationship. Watson was always there hanging out in the house with Holmes so it made sense to me.  Once, I asked my mom if they were in a relationship and she was all "no, no, no, he's in love with The Woman."  I gave her the side eye and was like "riiiight sure. If you say so."

I loved the modernity, drama, and brilliance of the first two seasons of Sherlock. The relationship between John and Sherlock was so compelling. I was really hooked. It felt to me like they were going to tell the story that made the most sense to me from early childhood, and a gay man was actually involved so maybe they would actually do it.  I was hoping Mary was going to be just short lived (like in the books) but she stayed until almost the end and the story basically went nowhere.

The last episode made me so mad that my husband refused to watch it in solidarity.

I was livid.  Add that to the fact that Doctor Who was also sucking and I absolutely despise Steven Moffat.

I've never thought of the friendship between Holmes and Watson as other than that. I think today we have a tendency to think that if two men are really good friends they must be more than just friends. This wasn't the case in the past, and especially not at the time the books were written. At one time it was common for two men or two women to share a house and no-one ever thought they were other than good friends. This is a really good article on the subject

http://sherlockcares.com/holmes-watson-adventure-iconic-relationship/

Mind you, I'm a huge fan of Cicero so am more than willing to go along with anything he says (there's a brief mention of him and that's good enough for me).

I'm quite pleased others are feeling the same way about Sherlock. I loved the first two series but it seemed to go downhill after that. My problem is I love the books so much and while I can quite happily accept a modern setting and the variations that entails I don't like variations in character and plot - they should introduce a new character in a (disposable) plot. But that's just me, I'm a bit of a book purist. Problem is, the cast are still great and work so well together that I kept watching every episode in hopeful anticipation.

Totally agree with both of you.
I'll never forgive Steven Moffat for what he did to Sherlock and Dr Who. Everything has to be so convoluted.

As for the 'gay' thing, I think it a become something that some people (mainly women) get off on. They love to put two male characters together has lovers and not just friends. I'm sure there were some who watched Being Human hoping that Hal and Tom would start a gay relationship.

Some Sherlock and John fans got very upset when the found out that the two actors are not friends in real life. You know, they're only work colleagues and have their own friends.

If anyone is interested then Sherlock season 4 episode 1 in on tonight on Alibi at 9pm. Will I be watching...hell no. But I'm sure there are lots of people who love it.
