I nearly fell off the couch at that smile. So adorable!

Loved this ep. This show keeps getting better and better. I wish we didn't have to wait a week between eps!!

Thank you domino for the screenshots and Tumblr; that smile: so adorabe thud(is there also any backwards-falling- emoticon?)

Very good episode, I think.

I watch a lot of detective series and I usually expect the unexpected, but this time I didn't expect it; well done, I'd say.

Amazing smile and moment! we wouldn't get that if Suspects a slick and tightly scripted thing.

that GIF shall be our reply to all those who criticise the improv!

Tina, we don't have a falling backwards thud, lol, but we do have:

thudalert

nothudding

And one more time:

thud

I couldn't help myself wondering the electrical system up there in the roof. It looked so dangerous, no way in Finland that kind of installation could pass last check. There were lot of places where should have been some covers so you couldn't possibly touch anything. Don't know how these things work in U.K.

Not the most important thing about the show, but I'm electrician and I was just stunned how it look up there, it bothered me so much :DD

I liked that one moment when Damien was looking straight in to cameras for sec, it was like it was some kind of inside joke or something. It made me smile :)

Of course I was worried about Damien's safety there, that's all ;D They shouldn't let anyone go any near those suspiciously looking cables and stuff.

Gonna take nap and stay up late for Jack chat! Can't miss that, it's too much fun!

Well, Annabelle Anipson (think I've got her name right, I remember her from Soldier Soldier) stole the show. And although I think Fay is not especially comfortable with the dialogue, she nailed the character, so not wanting to have to take on a superior officer. And it's a delight to see Damien's comedic talents. I'm really enjoying this show.

Sometimes I think having to improvise the dialogue makes them a bit rough as coppers, not necessarily unprofessional, but not especially polished. It's something I'm getting used to.

I remember her primarily from Soldier Soldier and my OH knows her from Shameless.

I'm warming to Fay and the character of Martha Bellamy now. I'm starting to think her 'softly softly' attitude is what gets her the respect of Jack and Charlie, she is very maternal, caring and i'd think also, protective of her team.

And that smile from Jack on the rooftop...just wow!

Good to see you're all caught up with Suspects now UJ and that you don't mind the improv, I remember it was a bit of an issue for you when announced.

Agree, Annabelle Apsion was captivating, things took a sinsister turn towards the end and she played that disturbing scene so well.

I felt Fay Ripley really came into her own in this ep, first time i really began to get a handle on Martha. Love her responses to things. She was brilliant in the interview room scenes this week.

the whole ep was utterly believable, I am really finding this new, immersive way of bringing drama utterly fascinating and absorbing.

I was concerned as to how they were going to do it, especially with what I'd heard about a prior attempt by the show runners. And now I find I'm looking forward to the next episode! I'm really liking this show.

For those who have trouble with the dialogue in Suspects, subtitles for episode 3 via subtitleseeker.com

1

00:00:12,240 --> 00:00:15,080

MALE NEWSCASTER: 'Police are now

hunting serial rapist

2

00:00:15,120 --> 00:00:18,600

after a third woman was attacked

last night by the West Willow canal.

3

00:00:18,640 --> 00:00:20,640

As with previous assaults,

4

00:00:20,680 --> 00:00:24,200

the victim was grabbed from behind

by a masked assailant.

5

00:00:28,600 --> 00:00:32,480

We are appealing to women

in the area just to take care,

6

00:00:32,520 --> 00:00:36,320

you know, if they're travelling,

travel in twos and threes,

7

00:00:36,360 --> 00:00:39,600

take all the precautions that they

need. If you're calling a cab,

8

00:00:39,640 --> 00:00:41,480

then call a licensed cab.

9

00:00:41,520 --> 00:00:44,200

Multiple entrances and exits

all along the towpaths.

10

00:00:44,240 --> 00:00:48,360

There's no confident way of placing

where our attacker lay and hid,

11

00:00:48,400 --> 00:00:50,640

or whether it was

a spur-of-the-moment thing.

12

00:00:50,680 --> 00:00:53,440

Helped by the fact there is

absolutely - or virtually -

13

00:00:53,480 --> 00:00:55,480

no CCTV footage available

for site,

14

00:00:55,520 --> 00:00:58,960

which would probably be the reason

why the attacker chose this spot.

15

00:00:59,000 --> 00:01:03,720

Yeah. And we've got two other rapes

in a mile-and-half radius,

16

00:01:03,760 --> 00:01:08,800

with an assailant who had a certain

amount of forensic knowledge,

17

00:01:08,840 --> 00:01:11,720

cos he's wearing a balaclava

and gloves each time.

18

00:01:14,280 --> 00:01:16,840

I need a file on George Callaghan,

done for rape.

19

00:01:16,880 --> 00:01:18,720

Archive Nine.

20

00:01:20,280 --> 00:01:24,120

That's the file. Amazing.

Thanks, Martin. You're a genius.

21

00:01:26,760 --> 00:01:30,960

This is sex offender and serial

rapist George Callaghan.

22

00:01:31,000 --> 00:01:35,600

Recently released from prison

after serving ten years of

a 16-year sentence for rape.

23

00:01:36,720 --> 00:01:40,240

(SIGHS) I don't know. I think it

could be this guy. You know?

24

00:01:40,280 --> 00:01:43,680

MO's the same - approaching the

victims from behind,

25

00:01:43,720 --> 00:01:45,840

strangling them before he rapes

them.

26

00:01:45,880 --> 00:01:47,640

Those two were frenzied attacks.

27

00:01:47,680 --> 00:01:51,960

This was premeditated.

Plus, he's got CCTV on his house.

28

00:01:52,000 --> 00:01:53,960

It's part of his licence

conditions.

29

00:01:54,000 --> 00:01:58,480

He's had ten years to work on

improving his technique,

so to speak, you know?

30

00:01:58,520 --> 00:02:02,240

And, to be fair, if we're doing

our jobs properly,

31

00:02:02,280 --> 00:02:05,040

we have to allow him to improve

his character, Jack.

32

00:02:05,080 --> 00:02:08,520

I don't know.

Yeah? Hm.

33

00:02:08,560 --> 00:02:10,760

But worth checking?

34

00:02:10,800 --> 00:02:12,760

Always.

Always.

35

00:02:17,160 --> 00:02:20,080

How are you, George?

Yeah.

36

00:02:20,120 --> 00:02:23,040

Yeah, good as can be expected,

I suppose. Keeping well?

37

00:02:23,080 --> 00:02:25,080

Yeah.

Keeping out of trouble?

38

00:02:25,440 --> 00:02:28,320

Yeah. Trying to.

Head down, trousers up, yeah?

39

00:02:28,360 --> 00:02:30,640

Oh, yeah.

Good boy.

40

00:02:31,720 --> 00:02:33,800

Where were you last night?

At home.

41

00:02:34,520 --> 00:02:37,360

Yeah? Yeah. All night?

42

00:02:37,400 --> 00:02:40,080

Yeah. Yeah, I got home from work,

43

00:02:40,120 --> 00:02:42,120

and yeah, I was at home all night.

44

00:02:42,160 --> 00:02:44,760

Watched the England game.

Oh, yeah? Yeah.

45

00:02:44,800 --> 00:02:47,520

What was the score?

2-0. Who scored?

46

00:02:47,560 --> 00:02:51,680

Well, Gerard scored at the end.

Great goal. Yeah, great goal. Yeah.

47

00:02:51,720 --> 00:02:54,200

Did you see the TV,

the news afterwards?

48

00:02:54,240 --> 00:02:56,280

Er, no, I don't really watch

the news. No?

49

00:02:57,040 --> 00:02:59,920

Because what's happened is,

there's a rapist on the loose.

50

00:02:59,960 --> 00:03:02,640

Yeah, I know about that.

Three victims so far.

51

00:03:02,680 --> 00:03:04,680

Yeah, I know.

Still haven't found him.

52

00:03:05,840 --> 00:03:08,120

God knows where he could be.

Mm.

53

00:03:09,800 --> 00:03:11,920

Did you do it?

No, I didn't do it.

54

00:03:13,120 --> 00:03:15,920

No, I didn't do it.

Well, where were you last night?

55

00:03:15,960 --> 00:03:18,840

I was in the house.

I was watching the game.

56

00:03:19,280 --> 00:03:21,960

Honest, I was. I was in the house

watching the game.

57

00:03:22,000 --> 00:03:25,640

I didn't go out. You've got CCTV

outside the house.

58

00:03:25,680 --> 00:03:27,680

I didn't go out.

59

00:03:28,600 --> 00:03:30,960

Can't get onto the server.

(SIGHS) All right.

60

00:03:32,120 --> 00:03:34,960

Hey. Is she OK?

61

00:03:35,000 --> 00:03:38,760

(SIGHS) It's just grim.

Man, he doing that.

62

00:03:38,800 --> 00:03:41,240

I managed to get her to agree

to the forensic exam,

63

00:03:41,280 --> 00:03:43,960

so we've got DNA, but she doesn't

want to take it further.

64

00:03:44,000 --> 00:03:46,360

I think that's all we're gonna get.

Oh.

65

00:03:46,400 --> 00:03:50,000

Victim details?

Erm, her name is Diane Packman.

66

00:03:51,760 --> 00:03:55,760

Fuck. Chief superintendent's

wife's name is Diane Ackerman.

67

00:03:56,400 --> 00:03:58,640

We sure it's her?

68

00:03:58,680 --> 00:04:01,440

Shit, I didn't ask her husband's

name, but she is married.

69

00:04:01,480 --> 00:04:05,520

Hold that thought.

Erm...

70

00:04:05,560 --> 00:04:08,880

Well... I guess that explains why

she doesn't want to go any further.

71

00:04:08,920 --> 00:04:11,560

She doesn't want this dragged

all over the station

72

00:04:11,600 --> 00:04:13,600

where her husband works.

73

00:04:26,160 --> 00:04:28,080

I'll look after her,

74

00:04:28,120 --> 00:04:32,240

and we'll make sure she's treated

with dignity...

75

00:04:32,280 --> 00:04:35,000

What's going on?

I-I don't know. He just...

76

00:04:35,040 --> 00:04:38,240

When did he get here? He turned up

a couple of minutes ago.

77

00:04:38,280 --> 00:04:41,040

Fuck, man. And they've been

in there for ages?

78

00:04:41,080 --> 00:04:44,280

..I'm going to make this

my priority - obviously.

79

00:04:44,320 --> 00:04:47,720

And er... Detective erm,

Constable Steele

80

00:04:47,760 --> 00:04:51,480

will go down now and take

a statement from Mrs Ackerman.

81

00:04:51,520 --> 00:04:54,720

Erm...look, I-I hope that

you don't feel

82

00:04:54,760 --> 00:04:58,640

between you that she's under duress

to give her statement

83

00:04:58,680 --> 00:05:01,680

because she's your wife, sir?

Not at all. It's about control.

84

00:05:01,720 --> 00:05:04,000

The rape victim has to be

in control.

85

00:05:04,400 --> 00:05:06,320

OK. Well, again, you know -

86

00:05:06,360 --> 00:05:08,600

Anyway. Thank you. Nice to see you.

87

00:05:09,120 --> 00:05:11,120

Thank you, sir.

88

00:05:12,920 --> 00:05:16,960

And at any point,

either after you left work -

89

00:05:17,000 --> 00:05:19,560

I'm not entirely sure of

the distances involved yet.

90

00:05:19,600 --> 00:05:23,480

so either after you left work

or left the Tube to walk along

the canal,

91

00:05:23,520 --> 00:05:26,840

were you followed at all,

or notice anything like that?

92

00:05:26,880 --> 00:05:29,480

I didn't notice anything. No, I...

93

00:05:29,520 --> 00:05:32,320

No. No.

94

00:05:32,920 --> 00:05:35,280

And in that bar -

He just came up from behind.

95

00:05:35,320 --> 00:05:38,960

OK. I didn't hear anything

and I didn't see anything.

96

00:05:39,000 --> 00:05:42,440

It's...

OK.

97

00:05:42,480 --> 00:05:46,480

And in the bar when you went for a

drink, before you got on the Tube,

98

00:05:46,520 --> 00:05:49,480

you went there alone?

Mm-hm.

99

00:05:50,160 --> 00:05:52,800

Yeah.

100

00:05:52,840 --> 00:05:55,240

Erm...I don't...

101

00:05:55,280 --> 00:05:57,240

I don't want to seem rude

or anything,

102

00:05:57,280 --> 00:05:59,880

but...do you often go out

and drink alone?

103

00:06:01,640 --> 00:06:03,640

I just went for a drink.

104

00:06:04,640 --> 00:06:07,120

It's not that weird.

105

00:06:07,160 --> 00:06:09,160

And where was your husband

last night?

106

00:06:10,840 --> 00:06:12,680

Erm, he was at a conference,

107

00:06:12,720 --> 00:06:14,720

so he was staying away in a hotel.

108

00:06:22,040 --> 00:06:24,040

Boss?

Yep?

109

00:06:25,720 --> 00:06:28,480

Hi. Erm, obviously,

under normal circumstances,

110

00:06:28,520 --> 00:06:31,080

I'd do the usual background

checks on Diana -

111

00:06:31,120 --> 00:06:33,120

Proceed as normal - obviously.

112

00:06:35,960 --> 00:06:38,240

You OK?

All good.

113

00:06:44,640 --> 00:06:46,640

(SIGHS HEAVILY)

114

00:06:56,520 --> 00:07:00,320

Just some initial stuff from

the background checks. Erm...

115

00:07:00,920 --> 00:07:04,920

A callout was made recently to the

Ackermans' address over a domestic

incident.

116

00:07:04,960 --> 00:07:08,920

Erm, Supt Ackerman apparently told

the constables to get lost

117

00:07:08,960 --> 00:07:11,760

while Diana apologised profusely

for wasting their time.

118

00:07:16,080 --> 00:07:20,160

Er, she's also... She's got

a bruise that predates the rape.

119

00:07:21,080 --> 00:07:23,200

What do think?

120

00:07:23,720 --> 00:07:25,440

OK. Do you know what?

121

00:07:27,240 --> 00:07:29,400

I think I'm gonna pop down,

join Charlie.

122

00:07:36,400 --> 00:07:38,920

So sorry to interrupt.

123

00:07:38,960 --> 00:07:43,120

Diane, my God, I wish these were

different circumstances, my friend.

124

00:07:43,760 --> 00:07:46,720

Listen, carry on. OK?

125

00:07:46,760 --> 00:07:49,360

OK, let's carry on.

126

00:07:49,400 --> 00:07:53,040

He came out from behind me

and...

127

00:07:53,080 --> 00:07:54,840

Balaclava on.

128

00:07:55,760 --> 00:07:58,200

And he had gloves on.

129

00:07:59,880 --> 00:08:02,440

And he really, really, really

strangled me.

130

00:08:02,480 --> 00:08:04,480

He really strangled me...

131

00:08:06,320 --> 00:08:08,680

..and then I woke up and...

132

00:08:08,720 --> 00:08:10,760

I didn't have any underwear on.

133

00:08:13,240 --> 00:08:16,160

I don't know what happened

to my underwear.

134

00:08:17,480 --> 00:08:19,840

(SOBS)

135

00:08:23,680 --> 00:08:28,440

How's Diane? I don't know. I feel

like she's not telling us something.

136

00:08:28,480 --> 00:08:31,240

What do you mean?

(SIGHS) I-I dunno.

137

00:08:31,280 --> 00:08:33,920

I find it very, very odd

that she was that there for

138

00:08:33,960 --> 00:08:36,400

what, a couple of hours,

drinking on her own.

139

00:08:36,440 --> 00:08:38,800

I dunno - Did she say how much

he had to drink?

140

00:08:38,840 --> 00:08:43,240

Er...she said she had

a couple of glasses.

141

00:08:44,680 --> 00:08:49,240

Yeah, a couple of glasses.

I've got the CCTV footage

from outside the pub.

142

00:08:49,960 --> 00:08:53,400

She looks pretty wobbly.

She looks hammered.

143

00:08:54,080 --> 00:08:56,640

Yeah. She wanders up here.

144

00:08:56,680 --> 00:08:59,560

And then, I mean... Maybe she's

on tranquillisers or something -

145

00:08:59,600 --> 00:09:01,600

It looks like it, doesn't it?

146

00:09:01,640 --> 00:09:05,080

I did a quick check of the pub.

I got these two receipts.

147

00:09:05,120 --> 00:09:08,800

She had had two glasses of wine,

148

00:09:08,840 --> 00:09:12,320

and then she also had a full bottle

to herself. A-whole-nother bottle?

149

00:09:12,360 --> 00:09:16,440

And er, I think that would floor

even the heartiest Irish drinker.

150

00:09:16,480 --> 00:09:18,920

(CHUCKLES)

That's more than two glasses.

151

00:09:18,960 --> 00:09:20,960

You should know.

152

00:09:21,000 --> 00:09:24,160

Right.

So why she lying about that?

153

00:09:24,200 --> 00:09:28,120

The only reason that we need to know

about your drinking pattern

154

00:09:28,160 --> 00:09:32,640

is because if a rapist alleges

that you gave consent to have

sex with him -

155

00:09:32,680 --> 00:09:36,720

I didn't give - If he did,

if you had had a few drinks,

156

00:09:36,760 --> 00:09:40,280

there is a possibility that you

weren't able to give consent.

157

00:09:40,320 --> 00:09:42,400

That's why we're asking.

I don't know.

158

00:09:42,440 --> 00:09:45,080

You know how much I had.

You tell me how much I had to drink.

159

00:09:45,120 --> 00:09:47,160

OK, I was a little pissed.

160

00:09:47,200 --> 00:09:51,000

Who doesn't like to have a drink?!

Completely, I totally agree,

161

00:09:51,040 --> 00:09:53,840

but ultimately we're here

to find this guy.

162

00:09:53,880 --> 00:09:56,240

OK? I'm on it -

I'm really sorry to interrupt.

163

00:09:56,280 --> 00:09:59,680

The DNA stuff is in.

There's nothing useful

164

00:09:59,720 --> 00:10:02,040

taken from the clothing or from

Diane herself,

165

00:10:02,080 --> 00:10:03,840

other than the marks on her throat,

166

00:10:03,880 --> 00:10:06,040

which belong to a guy called

Andrew Bourne,

167

00:10:06,080 --> 00:10:08,800

who runs an accountancy firm

that Diane works for.

168

00:10:08,840 --> 00:10:12,920

We have his DNA on file from

a drunk-driving incident six

months ago. Oh, really? OK.

169

00:10:12,960 --> 00:10:16,360

Do you think Andrew has anything

to do with that bruise on her face?

170

00:10:16,400 --> 00:10:18,800

I know it's not from yesterday,

it's a bit older.

171

00:10:18,840 --> 00:10:22,800

She said she fell in the bath and

she didn't. Why don't we ask her?

172

00:10:22,840 --> 00:10:26,920

No, Jack. She's a victim.

We're going to look after her.

173

00:10:28,280 --> 00:10:30,360

This is day one.

You understand that.

174

00:10:30,400 --> 00:10:34,400

The person I need to speak to

is this Andrew...

175

00:10:34,440 --> 00:10:36,440

Bourne.

..Bourne guy.

176

00:10:36,480 --> 00:10:40,080

And - Take her to the witness suite.

Look after her, please, guys.

177

00:10:41,400 --> 00:10:44,360

She's shitting herself

because of who she is.

178

00:10:51,880 --> 00:10:55,480

Mr Bourne, how did Diane

come to work for you?

179

00:10:56,120 --> 00:10:58,960

I've known her long, long time.

180

00:10:59,000 --> 00:11:02,600

I've known her husband Howard

since university - we played

rugby together.

181

00:11:02,640 --> 00:11:05,000

Erm... God, I mean...

182

00:11:05,040 --> 00:11:07,480

She needed a job,

I needed a personal assistant.

183

00:11:07,520 --> 00:11:09,880

It seemed to be a perfect fit.

184

00:11:09,920 --> 00:11:13,080

And could I ask you what you were

doing last night?

185

00:11:13,800 --> 00:11:16,680

Erm, I was working.

Diane left at some point.

186

00:11:16,720 --> 00:11:18,800

In the late evening.

187

00:11:18,840 --> 00:11:21,960

And then I-I stayed.

I stayed at home.

188

00:11:22,000 --> 00:11:26,640

Alone. You made several

phone calls to Diane.

189

00:11:26,680 --> 00:11:28,800

After she left the office.

190

00:11:29,520 --> 00:11:31,760

Yeah. Why so anxious

to get in touch with her?

191

00:11:31,800 --> 00:11:35,840

I was concerned for her.

She really has not been...

192

00:11:35,880 --> 00:11:38,440

12 calls.

OK.

193

00:11:38,480 --> 00:11:41,400

Look, as I say, I was very, very

concerned for her.

194

00:11:41,440 --> 00:11:43,520

She really hasn't been herself

lately...

195

00:11:44,040 --> 00:11:47,280

This is another photo of Diane

yesterday morning. (God!)

196

00:11:47,320 --> 00:11:49,920

What the photo doesn't show,

Mr Bourne,

197

00:11:49,960 --> 00:11:53,680

is that we have your DNA

on her neck.

198

00:11:54,400 --> 00:11:56,920

Can you explain why

that might be there?

199

00:11:59,760 --> 00:12:01,800

OK. I'm really not proud of this,

200

00:12:01,840 --> 00:12:03,960

but I-I tried to kiss her.

201

00:12:04,000 --> 00:12:06,960

And obviously I've misinterpreted

something there,

202

00:12:07,000 --> 00:12:10,360

but that is all, and I would

never, ever hurt her.

203

00:12:10,400 --> 00:12:13,200

That doesn't look like a love bite

to me, sir. OK.

204

00:12:13,240 --> 00:12:17,480

If you want to be interrogating

someone, I suggest you interrogate

her husband Howard.

205

00:12:17,520 --> 00:12:20,640

OK? Because he's the one who hits

his wife around. Not me.

206

00:12:20,680 --> 00:12:23,000

That's a very serious allegation

207

00:12:23,040 --> 00:12:25,760

of a very senior member of the

police. Yep.

208

00:12:26,640 --> 00:12:29,320

And as I say, I suggest that

you interrogate Howard.

209

00:12:30,000 --> 00:12:32,120

OK? Because your

chief superintendent

210

00:12:32,160 --> 00:12:34,160

is the one who slaps

his wife around.

211

00:12:35,040 --> 00:12:37,440

Am I getting this straight?

Absolutely -

212

00:12:37,480 --> 00:12:41,320

You know you're being recorded?

Yeah, I know how it looks

and how it sounds.

213

00:12:41,360 --> 00:12:45,080

But that is the truth. Do you want

to know how controlling he is?

214

00:12:45,120 --> 00:12:48,480

Right. Diane has her salary

that I pay her

215

00:12:48,520 --> 00:12:50,520

paid directly into his bank account.

216

00:12:50,560 --> 00:12:52,800

She doesn't have any

of her own bank cards.

217

00:12:52,840 --> 00:12:56,840

OK? He pays her an allowance,

in cash, that she has each week.

218

00:12:57,080 --> 00:12:59,600

OK? That gives you an idea

of the sort of person he is.

219

00:12:59,640 --> 00:13:04,600

I hope you can back this up, because

the police will come down hard on

you for this. If you're wrong.

220

00:13:04,640 --> 00:13:06,640

.

221

00:13:08,200 --> 00:13:10,200

.

222

00:13:13,080 --> 00:13:15,080

(KNOCKS)

223

00:13:15,120 --> 00:13:18,280

Sorry. I've got the chief super's

last credit card statement.

224

00:13:18,640 --> 00:13:20,440

Pop the door.

Yeah.

225

00:13:22,120 --> 00:13:26,520

Erm...there's a transaction from

about a week ago at the locksmith's.

226

00:13:26,560 --> 00:13:31,000

I gave them a call. They said

they were called out by a female

matching Diane's description

227

00:13:31,040 --> 00:13:34,120

to change all of the locks

in the Ackermans' house.

228

00:13:34,160 --> 00:13:36,280

She must be terrified of him.

229

00:13:36,320 --> 00:13:38,320

Yeah.

230

00:13:39,160 --> 00:13:42,480

Yeah, it does look like

Andrew Bourne's allegations

might have legs.

231

00:13:42,520 --> 00:13:45,240

Erm, do you know what, Charlie?

232

00:13:45,280 --> 00:13:47,800

Reinterview Diane Ackerman.

233

00:13:50,480 --> 00:13:52,960

Hello.

234

00:13:54,720 --> 00:13:57,720

Can you tell me a bit about your

relationship with Andrew?

235

00:13:59,360 --> 00:14:01,920

It's fine. It's good. Erm...

236

00:14:01,960 --> 00:14:05,600

The report came back and said that

there was his DNA on your neck.

237

00:14:05,640 --> 00:14:07,440

That's why I'm asking.

238

00:14:08,680 --> 00:14:11,040

(SIGHS) OK. Erm...

239

00:14:13,040 --> 00:14:16,240

Yeah, he... He made a pass

at me yesterday.

240

00:14:16,280 --> 00:14:18,400

I pushed him away, that was it.

241

00:14:19,360 --> 00:14:22,240

Nothing happened. Yesterday

whilst you were at work?

242

00:14:22,280 --> 00:14:24,960

Yes.

Did you argue about it?

243

00:14:25,000 --> 00:14:28,040

No, we didn't argue about it.

I just left. OK?

244

00:14:28,080 --> 00:14:30,800

I don't know what this has got

to do with...

245

00:14:31,840 --> 00:14:34,280

..with...

Has it ever happened before?

246

00:14:34,920 --> 00:14:36,320

No.

247

00:14:38,840 --> 00:14:40,960

Do you have a credit card, Diane?

248

00:14:42,200 --> 00:14:45,000

A debit card? A bank account?

249

00:14:45,920 --> 00:14:48,400

Where do your wages get paid to?

250

00:14:51,000 --> 00:14:53,760

Do they get paid directly

into your husband's account?

251

00:14:53,800 --> 00:14:57,560

Does he have all of your money,

and, what, pay you an allowance?

252

00:14:57,600 --> 00:15:01,040

Because that's not normal. That's

absolutely controlling behaviour.

253

00:15:04,480 --> 00:15:09,440

Yeah. Yeah...he is controlling.

254

00:15:11,080 --> 00:15:13,520

He erm...

255

00:15:13,560 --> 00:15:16,880

He's always criticising me and...

256

00:15:17,920 --> 00:15:21,360

..saying I should dress

in a different way and...

257

00:15:21,400 --> 00:15:23,560

speak in a different way.

258

00:15:25,200 --> 00:15:28,400

I think he'd quite like it

if I was a different personal

altogether.

259

00:15:36,320 --> 00:15:39,000

The question is whether she's

going to nail Ackerman -

260

00:15:39,040 --> 00:15:42,640

She has to. She has to,

but it's so sensitive.

261

00:15:42,680 --> 00:15:45,120

You start investigating

your superiors...

262

00:15:45,160 --> 00:15:47,160

All we can do is support her.

263

00:15:49,240 --> 00:15:51,800

So, gossip corner.

264

00:15:52,280 --> 00:15:55,600

Hey. Let me guess the headlines

of this conversation -

265

00:15:55,640 --> 00:15:58,880

"Chief Super Bashes Wife".

Am I right?

266

00:15:58,920 --> 00:16:01,880

Look, this is a rape investigation.

267

00:16:02,440 --> 00:16:08,160

We are going to look at who

raped Diane Ackerman FIRST.

268

00:16:08,200 --> 00:16:13,360

OK? Before we tackle if

Diane Ackerman is a victim

of domestic abuse.

269

00:16:13,400 --> 00:16:15,120

All right? Let's do it in that -

270

00:16:15,160 --> 00:16:17,160

Let's do it in that order...

271

00:16:19,520 --> 00:16:21,960

I need discretion, guys.

Yeah, of course.

272

00:16:22,000 --> 00:16:25,160

But it's worth talking about

between the three of us.

273

00:16:26,120 --> 00:16:28,200

Keep it within us three.

274

00:16:28,240 --> 00:16:32,200

To anyone else, talk about what was

on telly or something like that.

275

00:16:32,240 --> 00:16:34,920

Or who you're fucking, Jack.

How about that?

276

00:16:34,960 --> 00:16:37,880

No-one. As usual.

(LAUGHS)

277

00:16:42,560 --> 00:16:46,800

George Callaghan is living

with this woman. Annette Walker.

278

00:16:47,560 --> 00:16:51,880

This is the CCTV footage from

outside Annette's house last night.

279

00:16:52,800 --> 00:16:55,560

The relationship between George

and Annette blossomed,

280

00:16:55,600 --> 00:16:57,960

after Annette contacted George

in prison,

281

00:16:58,000 --> 00:17:00,000

while he was still serving

his sentence.

282

00:17:00,040 --> 00:17:02,800

He moved in with her almost

as soon as he was released.

283

00:17:02,840 --> 00:17:05,320

Must've been attracted

to his sweet nature (!)

284

00:17:06,640 --> 00:17:08,640

She leaves the house at 07:42pm

in her car

285

00:17:08,680 --> 00:17:10,760

to visit and feed her sick

mother Evelyn.

286

00:17:10,800 --> 00:17:13,520

At 10:00pm, George's bedroom

light goes out.

287

00:17:13,560 --> 00:17:15,840

Other ins and outs

288

00:17:15,880 --> 00:17:19,640

are the back door, which leads

onto an enclosed garden,

289

00:17:19,680 --> 00:17:22,240

then the garden backs onto

two adjoining gardens,

290

00:17:22,280 --> 00:17:24,280

so there is absolutely no way

out the back.

291

00:17:31,440 --> 00:17:34,280

Hi. Sorry for keeping you waiting.

Here's your coffee.

292

00:17:34,320 --> 00:17:36,080

Thank you.

Please take a seat.

293

00:17:36,120 --> 00:17:40,840

Thanks. I'm sorry to have

dragged you in erm...

294

00:17:40,880 --> 00:17:43,520

at such short notice.

I can't apologise enough.

295

00:17:43,560 --> 00:17:46,560

You know that we have been speaking

with George Callaghan.

296

00:17:46,600 --> 00:17:48,360

You're in a relationship with...

297

00:17:48,400 --> 00:17:50,760

Yes. ..George?

He lives with me. He's my partner.

298

00:17:50,800 --> 00:17:52,840

Fantastic.

299

00:17:52,880 --> 00:17:58,760

So, have you arrested George?

No, George is just helping us

with our enquiries.

300

00:17:58,800 --> 00:18:01,840

Is it about that thing that

happened last night by the canal?

301

00:18:01,880 --> 00:18:04,120

I can't really go into too much

detail about it.

302

00:18:04,160 --> 00:18:09,440

Cos they said on the news

people automatically jump to

conclusions because of his past,

303

00:18:09,480 --> 00:18:12,080

but he's changed and he should be

allowed to move on,

304

00:18:12,120 --> 00:18:14,320

which is only fair, I think.

Absolutely.

305

00:18:14,360 --> 00:18:16,600

I couldn't have put it better

myself. Yeah.

306

00:18:16,640 --> 00:18:18,640

Erm...

307

00:18:19,640 --> 00:18:22,760

I just have a few very quick,

minor questions.

308

00:18:22,800 --> 00:18:24,800

Where was George last night?

309

00:18:24,840 --> 00:18:28,160

He was with me. We were just

in last night watching telly,

310

00:18:28,200 --> 00:18:30,280

apart from when I had

to go out and see my mum.

311

00:18:30,320 --> 00:18:33,600

But George stayed in,

and I had the car,

312

00:18:33,640 --> 00:18:37,480

so he couldn't have gone anywhere.

You can check all this on CCTV.

313

00:18:37,520 --> 00:18:40,200

You lot put it up to monitor him.

(CHUCKLES)

314

00:18:40,240 --> 00:18:42,520

How long have you been going out

with Annette?

315

00:18:42,560 --> 00:18:45,680

I'd say about 18 months.

She know about all your...

316

00:18:45,720 --> 00:18:48,360

Yeah. ..dirty laundry? Yeah.

317

00:18:48,400 --> 00:18:51,720

There's no secrets between me

and Annette. Good.

318

00:18:51,760 --> 00:18:54,520

Do you love her? Yeah, I do.

She love you?

319

00:18:55,480 --> 00:18:58,480

Yeah, I think so. (CHUCKLES)

Hope so. Yeah, hope so.

320

00:18:58,520 --> 00:19:00,680

Put up with me, she must do.

(CHUCKLES)

321

00:19:00,720 --> 00:19:04,880

From a rehabilitation point of view,

what happened?

322

00:19:05,560 --> 00:19:08,320

When I was inside.

323

00:19:09,240 --> 00:19:12,400

Did you find God?

No, I found a great therapist.

324

00:19:14,800 --> 00:19:17,720

Yeah. My doctor, he sorted me out.

325

00:19:17,760 --> 00:19:20,360

You know, the first...

326

00:19:20,400 --> 00:19:23,400

couple of years were the hardest -

for both of us, I think.

327

00:19:24,240 --> 00:19:27,080

It's hard to admit what you did.

328

00:19:27,120 --> 00:19:30,400

And then start to kind of address

how you feel about it.

329

00:19:31,200 --> 00:19:35,120

Erm, George and Annette's stories,

they're airtight.

330

00:19:35,160 --> 00:19:37,640

Corroborate everything

that we saw on CCTV.

331

00:19:37,680 --> 00:19:40,160

But the way they acted

in the interview room

332

00:19:40,200 --> 00:19:43,440

just freaks me out -

she's too weird, he's too smug.

333

00:19:43,480 --> 00:19:46,000

It just...stinks.

I know, I know. Problem is,

334

00:19:46,040 --> 00:19:48,600

I've completely run out of time

on Callaghan.

335

00:19:48,640 --> 00:19:52,120

Don't do that to me. We've got let

him out. It's the clock.

336

00:19:52,560 --> 00:19:55,760

I've just spoken to the hotel

holding the ACPO conference

337

00:19:55,800 --> 00:19:58,400

where Chief Supt Ackerman

was a delegate.

338

00:19:58,440 --> 00:20:02,000

He had the room overnight but he

checked out early and came home.

339

00:20:02,040 --> 00:20:04,320

Which contradicts what he told

his wife

340

00:20:04,360 --> 00:20:06,560

and gives him time to have gotten

back here.

341

00:20:07,600 --> 00:20:11,680

And carried out the rape. I'll back

you up on whatever you want to do.

342

00:20:11,720 --> 00:20:15,000

I'm about to talk this through

with the DCI.

343

00:20:15,040 --> 00:20:20,320

OK? Just for me, keep Ackerman's

name off the suspect board.

344

00:20:20,880 --> 00:20:22,960

For now.

How long do you need?

345

00:20:23,000 --> 00:20:25,120

Half an hour.

346

00:20:26,400 --> 00:20:28,440

That bruise on your face, Diane...

347

00:20:29,960 --> 00:20:34,360

..our medical examiner, who has

spoken to you and had a look at

the photos,

348

00:20:34,400 --> 00:20:37,480

has told us that it's not consistent

with a fall in the bath,

349

00:20:37,520 --> 00:20:39,280

and it's more like a punch

or a slap.

350

00:20:39,320 --> 00:20:41,280

No, I fell in the bath.

351

00:20:42,440 --> 00:20:45,320

I'm only going on what our medical

examiner said.

352

00:20:45,360 --> 00:20:48,440

Did someone hit you? No.

Did Howard hit you? No.

353

00:20:48,480 --> 00:20:50,480

No, I fell in the bath.

354

00:20:51,440 --> 00:20:53,640

Is he aggressive? Is he violent?

355

00:20:55,280 --> 00:20:57,320

Did he hit you?

356

00:20:57,360 --> 00:20:59,360

Diane?

357

00:20:59,640 --> 00:21:03,360

Because I can do something about

that. You just have to talk to me.

358

00:21:06,360 --> 00:21:08,920

Yes. Yeah? OK. OK.

359

00:21:11,680 --> 00:21:13,520

This is just me over here.

360

00:21:13,560 --> 00:21:16,880

But I will always call you. I will

never turn up out of the blue.

361

00:21:18,200 --> 00:21:20,920

I'm not going to be making

a complaint against Howard, OK?

362

00:21:20,960 --> 00:21:25,920

You've got to understand that.

OK. I think it's something you

should think about -

363

00:21:25,960 --> 00:21:29,920

It is something I've thought about.

You have no idea how important his

job is to him.

364

00:21:30,640 --> 00:21:33,000

You have my number.

I'm not going to force you -

365

00:21:33,040 --> 00:21:35,640

I don't want to talk about

that any longer. That's fine.

366

00:21:35,680 --> 00:21:38,800

I just want you to think about it,

and if you change your mind,

367

00:21:38,840 --> 00:21:41,400

I want you to call me. OK?

368

00:21:41,440 --> 00:21:44,280

I'm... OK.

369

00:21:44,320 --> 00:21:46,240

(Martha, come on, for fuck's sake.)

370

00:21:47,800 --> 00:21:50,000

I have been looking at...

371

00:21:50,040 --> 00:21:52,360

the other two rape victims,

372

00:21:52,400 --> 00:21:55,760

and both of them reported incidents

of domestic abuse to the police.

373

00:21:57,440 --> 00:22:00,320

So, could someone be using our

system to scout out targets?

374

00:22:01,480 --> 00:22:05,520

What are you trying to say?

We already know the attacker

was forensically aware.

375

00:22:07,520 --> 00:22:09,840

Could our rapist be a copper?

376

00:22:10,680 --> 00:22:12,880

That's a good question.

377

00:22:13,320 --> 00:22:16,680

Diane's confirmed that the

chief super's been hitting her.

378

00:22:16,720 --> 00:22:21,840

That bruise on her face is from him.

Will she go to court?

No. There's absolutely no way.

379

00:22:22,800 --> 00:22:25,160

OK. I've got this. Thank you.

380

00:22:25,840 --> 00:22:27,600

Sir, apologies for the delay.

381

00:22:30,600 --> 00:22:33,040

So...what's this all about?

382

00:22:36,120 --> 00:22:40,200

Chief Superintendent, I do need to

ask you where you were last night.

383

00:22:40,960 --> 00:22:44,240

Er, I was at a conference,

but I came home early.

384

00:22:45,160 --> 00:22:50,440

It was a drinking session, and I

didn't really fancy it.

385

00:22:51,800 --> 00:22:54,440

Can you corroborate that, sir?

386

00:22:55,920 --> 00:22:57,680

No, I'm afraid not.

387

00:22:57,720 --> 00:23:00,640

My wife and I are spending

some time apart at the moment,

388

00:23:00,680 --> 00:23:03,440

and I am staying with a friend.

389

00:23:05,560 --> 00:23:07,720

So, I was at his flat.

390

00:23:08,320 --> 00:23:10,240

Er, 9 Willow Mansions.

391

00:23:10,800 --> 00:23:13,400

Don't be offended but...

392

00:23:13,440 --> 00:23:17,160

I do need to know if you can

corroborate where you were

at the time of the rape.

393

00:23:17,200 --> 00:23:19,720

I'm not offended at all,

but sadly, no, I can't.

394

00:23:19,760 --> 00:23:22,720

I was on my own at home,

I'm sorry to say.

395

00:23:26,840 --> 00:23:28,840

.

396

00:23:31,000 --> 00:23:33,000

.

397

00:23:35,800 --> 00:23:38,400

Boss? How'd it go with

Ackerman?

398

00:23:39,440 --> 00:23:41,960

Polite, professional -

exactly what you'd expect,

399

00:23:42,000 --> 00:23:44,760

but still doesn't have an alibi

for last night, so -

400

00:23:44,800 --> 00:23:46,800

Actually, he may not need one.

401

00:23:46,840 --> 00:23:50,560

Erm...Andrew Bourne left

Walbrook Road tube station

402

00:23:50,600 --> 00:23:52,440

at 08:42pm last night.

403

00:23:52,480 --> 00:23:55,320

That's the station closest

to Diane Ackerman's house.

404

00:23:55,360 --> 00:23:58,080

which puts in the area shortly

before the rape.

405

00:23:58,120 --> 00:24:02,760

(SIGHS) And what have we got,

anything, to link him to the

other two rapes?

406

00:24:02,800 --> 00:24:06,560

Well, he has the same height and

build as the attacker.

407

00:24:06,600 --> 00:24:09,640

He also goes to the same gym as

one of the previous two victims.

408

00:24:09,680 --> 00:24:13,320

Yeah, and let's face it, he is

a man that has just been rejected,

409

00:24:13,360 --> 00:24:17,000

so we've got a motive - plenty to

bring him in and search his house.

410

00:24:17,040 --> 00:24:19,480

OK?

OK.

411

00:24:32,440 --> 00:24:35,120

Andrew Bourne.

Detective Sgt Jack Weston.

412

00:24:35,160 --> 00:24:38,600

Yep, I know you. I'm arresting you

on suspicion of rape,

413

00:24:38,640 --> 00:24:40,680

and also for driving without

a licence.

414

00:24:40,720 --> 00:24:45,280

You do not have to say anything...

(RECITES CAUTION)

415

00:24:46,320 --> 00:24:49,080

You're serious, are you?

You understand? I understand,

416

00:24:49,120 --> 00:24:52,200

But you're serious? Under the

Police and Criminal Evidence Act,

417

00:24:52,240 --> 00:24:57,080

I will search your premises and

your vehicle. Anything in there

I should know about? No.

418

00:25:02,040 --> 00:25:04,320

Just calm down, sir.

Yeah, I'm perfectly calm.

419

00:25:04,360 --> 00:25:07,120

I just wanna know what this

is about. Are you going away?

420

00:25:07,160 --> 00:25:09,160

For a few days. Is that a crime?

421

00:25:10,120 --> 00:25:12,920

OK. Let's take Mr Bourne

back to the station.

422

00:25:12,960 --> 00:25:16,640

Let's get a low loader to do a

full forensic lift of the vehicle.

423

00:25:16,680 --> 00:25:19,480

OK, sir. Thank you.

You got it? OK.

424

00:25:19,520 --> 00:25:21,280

Let's hurry on this one!

425

00:25:22,840 --> 00:25:25,120

Got Andrew Bourne!

426

00:25:25,160 --> 00:25:28,320

Cheeky bastard was doing a runner.

I got the luggage in his boot.

427

00:25:28,800 --> 00:25:31,080

I'm going to supervise forensics

with the car.

428

00:25:31,120 --> 00:25:33,800

Diane's still insistent

it wasn't him.

429

00:25:33,840 --> 00:25:37,960

Like she KNOWS it wasn't him.

No. She doesn't know.

430

00:25:38,000 --> 00:25:40,720

It was dark, attacker was masked

and she'd a bit to drink.

431

00:25:40,760 --> 00:25:42,640

Maybe she made a mistake. OK?

432

00:25:46,680 --> 00:25:49,960

Sorry, I'm actually struggling

to understand why I'm here.

433

00:25:51,040 --> 00:25:53,040

Going somewhere, were you?

434

00:25:53,080 --> 00:25:55,080

(SIGHS)

435

00:25:55,120 --> 00:25:57,000

I-I've got a bag in the car

436

00:25:57,040 --> 00:26:00,480

because I'm going away for a couple

of days... Where are you going?

437

00:26:00,520 --> 00:26:03,400

To see my mother.

If you like, you can phone her.

438

00:26:03,440 --> 00:26:07,120

And she'll tell you, you know what,

I arranged that weeks ago.

439

00:26:07,160 --> 00:26:12,120

Hm. OK. We've been checking your

travel records on your Oyster Card,

440

00:26:12,160 --> 00:26:17,800

and apparently you exited an hour

before the attack

441

00:26:17,840 --> 00:26:21,880

at Walbrook Road Tube, which is

the nearest Tube to Diane's house.

442

00:26:21,920 --> 00:26:24,120

Can you explain that?

443

00:26:26,200 --> 00:26:28,880

You know what? I would like

to speak to a solicitor.

444

00:26:29,520 --> 00:26:31,120

Please.

445

00:26:31,160 --> 00:26:33,480

Where were the gloves found...?

Thanks.

446

00:26:34,680 --> 00:26:37,800

With the bag? Sarge, you found

anything useful?

447

00:26:37,840 --> 00:26:39,680

The boss is in with

Andrew Bourne now.

448

00:26:39,720 --> 00:26:42,840

Worth the wait. Got the gloves -

I reckon this could be our guy.

449

00:26:51,440 --> 00:26:54,400

Boss? Erm...

450

00:26:54,440 --> 00:26:57,880

Chief Super Ackerman's

got corroborated alibis

for the two other rapes.

451

00:26:59,280 --> 00:27:01,200

Holy God!

452

00:27:01,240 --> 00:27:04,000

(SIGHS) I feel like doing

a little dance on the spot.

453

00:27:04,040 --> 00:27:06,920

There's still the matter of him

knocking his wife about.

454

00:27:06,960 --> 00:27:08,960

Not forgotten, Charlie.

455

00:27:09,000 --> 00:27:12,600

Focus on Andrew Bourne's alibis

for the first two rapes.

456

00:27:12,640 --> 00:27:15,640

You never know. We might find

three victims' DNA

457

00:27:15,680 --> 00:27:17,640

on those fancy leather gloves

of his.

458

00:27:18,040 --> 00:27:21,600

I was looking through the notes

from Andrew's original interview.

459

00:27:21,640 --> 00:27:25,840

He said all that stuff about Diane

not having a bank account,

not having credit cards.

460

00:27:25,880 --> 00:27:28,920

I rang her and she swears she never

discussed it with him,

461

00:27:28,960 --> 00:27:33,000

but...I assume that she works

off a laptop or a PC

462

00:27:33,040 --> 00:27:35,520

in his house, or his offices,

463

00:27:35,560 --> 00:27:38,760

so I'd like to join the search team

to see if I can get hold of that.

464

00:27:39,720 --> 00:27:42,120

Yeah, go, go. Good.

I will not be long.

465

00:27:43,400 --> 00:27:45,840

Yeah.

466

00:27:45,880 --> 00:27:49,360

Boss? Andrew Bourne's solicitor

has just arrived.

467

00:27:49,400 --> 00:27:51,120

God forbid I should have

a cup of tea!

468

00:27:55,520 --> 00:27:57,680

OK. OK. If that's -

I think you should. OK.

469

00:27:57,720 --> 00:28:00,280

I'd like to make a statement,

please. Erm...

470

00:28:00,320 --> 00:28:03,800

I did leave...my house last night,

471

00:28:03,840 --> 00:28:07,480

in order to travel to Diane

and Howard's house.

472

00:28:08,040 --> 00:28:12,040

In order to...apologise

for having...

473

00:28:12,080 --> 00:28:16,360

made a pass at her, and hopefully

to patch things up.

474

00:28:16,400 --> 00:28:18,800

And I knocked on the door

a number of times,

475

00:28:18,840 --> 00:28:21,760

and there was no answer,

and that was it.

476

00:28:23,360 --> 00:28:25,600

I went home.

477

00:28:26,720 --> 00:28:30,720

Mr Bourne, we have recovered

a pair of black gloves

478

00:28:30,760 --> 00:28:33,400

from a toolbox in the back

of your car.

479

00:28:34,520 --> 00:28:36,520

Can you explain why they're there?

480

00:28:36,560 --> 00:28:38,560

Er...

481

00:28:38,600 --> 00:28:40,600

Erm...

482

00:28:40,640 --> 00:28:43,320

If it's the pair of gloves

that I'm thinking about,

483

00:28:43,360 --> 00:28:47,760

I think I used them

maybe once to perhaps -

484

00:28:47,800 --> 00:28:50,040

I think I changed the spare tire

with them.

485

00:28:50,080 --> 00:28:55,400

Really? It's just that they're

a very smart pair of gloves to

change a tyre with.

486

00:28:55,440 --> 00:28:57,680

They were what I had to hand.

That's it!

487

00:28:57,720 --> 00:29:00,000

I don't know what else I can say.

I really don't.

488

00:29:04,040 --> 00:29:07,600

I've looked through Bourne's laptop

and Diane did access her emails.

489

00:29:07,640 --> 00:29:10,080

There's a whole bunch of them

490

00:29:10,120 --> 00:29:12,720

between Chief Super Ackerman

and her,

491

00:29:12,760 --> 00:29:15,320

which start...

well, as you might expect,

492

00:29:15,360 --> 00:29:18,240

lots of "I'm really sorry,"

"I really miss you,"

493

00:29:18,280 --> 00:29:20,960

"I really love you,"

but once she changes the locks,

494

00:29:21,000 --> 00:29:23,040

he gets really, really nasty.

495

00:29:24,400 --> 00:29:27,640

Sir, I've got some emails here

that I'd like...

496

00:29:27,680 --> 00:29:30,960

MY emails? "Darling, I'm so sorry

for last night..."

497

00:29:31,000 --> 00:29:34,760

They're from my wife. ..but they

turn quite nasty pretty quickly.

498

00:29:34,800 --> 00:29:37,440

"You're a fucking bitch"...

You got those from my wife?

499

00:29:37,480 --> 00:29:40,480

.."You're pathetic,"

"You're nothing without me,"

500

00:29:40,520 --> 00:29:42,960

It's actually quite nasty. Sir.

501

00:29:44,280 --> 00:29:46,600

My wife gave you some emails.

Thank you.

502

00:29:46,640 --> 00:29:50,920

The tipoff about your behaviour

came from your best friend Andrew.

503

00:29:50,960 --> 00:29:53,520

Diane didn't say anything

about this. Andrew?

504

00:29:53,560 --> 00:29:55,120

Yeah.

505

00:29:55,160 --> 00:29:58,440

Forensic experts have also had a

look at the bruise on Diane's face,

506

00:29:58,480 --> 00:30:00,720

and they say it definitely

came from a slap.

507

00:30:02,720 --> 00:30:04,880

And?

508

00:30:04,920 --> 00:30:06,880

"And"?

And what?

509

00:30:06,920 --> 00:30:08,920

You can't prove that was me.

510

00:30:09,680 --> 00:30:13,000

How long have you been at

a friend's house, out of your home?

511

00:30:13,040 --> 00:30:15,040

Er...

512

00:30:16,280 --> 00:30:18,480

A week.

A week.

513

00:30:18,520 --> 00:30:20,640

That bruise on her face

is over a week old,

514

00:30:20,680 --> 00:30:22,960

so I assume you were there

when it happened?

515

00:30:24,840 --> 00:30:27,400

It's a possibility that I was

there when it happened -

516

00:30:27,440 --> 00:30:30,000

You were or you weren't there?

517

00:30:30,040 --> 00:30:33,600

Yes, I was there when it happened.

So, how did she get that bruise?

518

00:30:33,640 --> 00:30:35,640

I have no idea. What do you think?

519

00:30:36,080 --> 00:30:40,240

I just find it strange that

you would say I can't prove

that that's you.

520

00:30:40,360 --> 00:30:42,080

Well, you can't, can you?

521

00:30:42,120 --> 00:30:44,640

As opposed to I can't prove

how that happened?

522

00:30:44,680 --> 00:30:47,920

It's just a strange choice of words.

I think.

523

00:30:48,840 --> 00:30:51,600

All right. Thank you for

your supposition.

524

00:30:51,640 --> 00:30:53,800

Move on -

Your wife's afraid of you. Really?

525

00:30:53,840 --> 00:30:57,280

Diane's already revealed how

controlling you are. Really?

526

00:30:57,320 --> 00:30:59,080

Her wages are paid into

your account.

527

00:30:59,120 --> 00:31:01,720

You control how she dresses,

who she speaks to,

528

00:31:01,760 --> 00:31:04,520

she has a curfew. Really?

Diane's afraid of you.

529

00:31:04,560 --> 00:31:08,280

My wife has told you this? She's

had the locks changed to your home.

530

00:31:08,320 --> 00:31:11,840

Has she really?

SHE has told you all of this?!

531

00:31:12,480 --> 00:31:14,720

I hope you really know

what you're doing.

532

00:31:14,760 --> 00:31:18,280

I really hope you know

what you're doing.

533

00:31:18,320 --> 00:31:20,200

I've done my homework.

How old are you?

534

00:31:20,240 --> 00:31:23,400

26 and a half, sir.

Ah, you're a young girl.

535

00:31:23,440 --> 00:31:26,040

Proud of it.

A long way to go.

536

00:31:26,080 --> 00:31:28,000

I hope so.

You've made a mistake.

537

00:31:28,040 --> 00:31:31,040

We've all made mistakes, sir.

I'm not fucking talking to you.

538

00:31:31,080 --> 00:31:32,800

I'm not fucking talking to you!

539

00:31:32,840 --> 00:31:36,440

CPS have confirmed that we have

enough evidence to arrest you...

540

00:31:36,480 --> 00:31:39,200

(STILL TALKING) ..for actual

bodily harm of your wife.

541

00:31:39,240 --> 00:31:41,480

My lawyers will eat you up

and spit you out...

542

00:31:41,520 --> 00:31:44,680

As awkward as this is,

you do not have to say anything...

543

00:31:44,720 --> 00:31:47,240

Both of you.

(RECITES CAUTION) YOU.

544

00:31:47,280 --> 00:31:51,440

You in particular. Done for you.

All finished for you.

545

00:31:51,480 --> 00:31:55,400

Do you understand?

Of course I understand!

546

00:32:05,720 --> 00:32:09,960

Diana was so intensely determined

not to take it any further.

547

00:32:10,000 --> 00:32:12,200

I don't understand why he didn't

just drop it.

548

00:32:12,240 --> 00:32:15,760

He knew there'd be gossip

in the office about who

the victim's husband was,

549

00:32:15,800 --> 00:32:18,640

and then he wanted to be the big

fucking showman, ya know?

550

00:32:18,680 --> 00:32:21,000

Getting his wife to make

a statement, ya know?

551

00:32:21,040 --> 00:32:23,960

Yeah. Be the big professional

copper in front of his minions.

552

00:32:24,000 --> 00:32:26,200

It's pathetic.

553

00:32:27,520 --> 00:32:30,920

I've just got one more question,

if that's OK?

554

00:32:30,960 --> 00:32:33,360

Do you know someone called Beverly?

555

00:32:34,720 --> 00:32:36,720

From off the internet?

Yeah.

556

00:32:37,560 --> 00:32:40,760

How do you know that? I promise

I'll explain all in a second.

557

00:32:40,800 --> 00:32:43,640

Just... Can you tell me

anything about her?

558

00:32:44,520 --> 00:32:47,680

Erm...yep. Beverley erm...

559

00:32:49,440 --> 00:32:54,120

Look, she's somebody

I met on an...erm...

560

00:32:54,160 --> 00:32:55,880

a forum for domestic abuse.

561

00:32:55,920 --> 00:33:00,000

She has been in a really horrific

situation with her husband.

562

00:33:00,040 --> 00:33:02,520

She's just somebody who's kind,

who's helpful -

563

00:33:02,560 --> 00:33:06,840

How long have you been in touch?

Four months. OK.

564

00:33:09,200 --> 00:33:11,800

She's been on a domestic abuse

survivors forum.

565

00:33:12,280 --> 00:33:14,960

Mostly swapping messages

with someone called Beverly.

566

00:33:15,000 --> 00:33:16,960

They've been chatting

for four months.

567

00:33:17,000 --> 00:33:19,920

Diane's opened up and told her

absolutely everything.

568

00:33:19,960 --> 00:33:23,840

But a couple of days ago, Beverley

suggested they meet last night.

569

00:33:23,880 --> 00:33:28,920

Really? Yeah. She sent her an

email saying, "Let's swap photos

so we can recognise each other."

570

00:33:28,960 --> 00:33:32,320

Diane sent hers and after she did

Beverley refused to send one back

571

00:33:32,360 --> 00:33:35,240

saying, "Now I've got your photo

I feel really frumpy."

572

00:33:35,280 --> 00:33:39,320

So, Beverley didn't send a photo,

so Beverley could be a man.

573

00:33:39,360 --> 00:33:42,920

Plus Beverley was very specific

they meet in a cafe near the canal.

574

00:33:54,800 --> 00:33:57,720

Sarge?

Yeah?

575

00:33:57,760 --> 00:34:00,000

I got Beverley's phone number

from Diane.

576

00:34:00,040 --> 00:34:01,880

I called it. It wouldn't go through.

577

00:34:01,920 --> 00:34:04,440

The phone company

say it's a pay-as-you-go,

578

00:34:04,480 --> 00:34:07,760

which unusually is registered,

but the owner hasn't topped it up -

579

00:34:07,800 --> 00:34:11,400

hence why it's not going through -

the owner being Annette Walker,

580

00:34:11,440 --> 00:34:14,200

Callaghan's girlfriend.

She arranged to meet Diane.

581

00:34:14,240 --> 00:34:16,800

So, George Callaghan's the rapist?

582

00:34:18,400 --> 00:34:20,120

I feel we're missing something.

583

00:34:20,160 --> 00:34:22,720

The domestic abuse site

sent me Beverly's IP address,

584

00:34:22,760 --> 00:34:25,440

which is registered to Annette

and Callaghan's house.

585

00:34:25,480 --> 00:34:29,640

Oh, there is more. The other

two rape victims have both

been in touch with Beverley.

586

00:34:29,680 --> 00:34:33,560

OK, so she leaves alone,

not long before the rape,

587

00:34:33,600 --> 00:34:36,680

but we've got surveillance

and the bedroom light is -

588

00:34:36,720 --> 00:34:38,960

Callaghan turns his bedroom

light off at ten.

589

00:34:39,000 --> 00:34:42,360

He can't be in two places at once.

590

00:34:42,400 --> 00:34:45,560

Right? Unless he's got

the lights on a timer.

591

00:34:46,680 --> 00:34:48,880

Unless he's got his lights

on a timer. OK.

592

00:34:48,920 --> 00:34:52,040

Let's get a search warrant.

Now's the time. Do it.

593

00:34:57,800 --> 00:34:59,960

OK, here we go. Game face on.

594

00:35:01,320 --> 00:35:03,320

(RINGS DOORBELL)

595

00:35:06,000 --> 00:35:08,160

The door, man.

596

00:35:08,200 --> 00:35:10,040

OK, let's go, let's go, let's go!

597

00:35:10,080 --> 00:35:12,080

(SHOUTING)

598

00:35:18,040 --> 00:35:21,080

Clear! Clear! Clear!

599

00:35:21,120 --> 00:35:23,560

OK, I was right.

Sorry?

600

00:35:24,240 --> 00:35:26,360

We've got a timer on

the bedroom lamp.

601

00:35:26,400 --> 00:35:29,360

There's a doorway from

the kitchen to the garage.

602

00:35:29,400 --> 00:35:32,120

He's getting in the boot,

and she's driving off. Fuck!

603

00:35:32,160 --> 00:35:34,520

(PHONE VIBRATES)

Can I get a camera, please?

604

00:35:35,480 --> 00:35:37,200

Boss, what have you got?

605

00:35:37,240 --> 00:35:41,240

'Tech team have been checking out

domestic abuse websites.' Charlie!

606

00:35:41,280 --> 00:35:46,920

Uh-huh. SPEAKERPHONE: 'Beverley has

arranged another meeting tonight.'

607

00:35:46,960 --> 00:35:49,920

Have we been in touch with

the victim? 'No, there's no number.'

608

00:35:51,240 --> 00:35:53,200

OK, what car are we looking

out for?

609

00:35:53,240 --> 00:35:57,520

Er, Ford Focus - Lima, Delta,

59, Uniform, Sierra, Sierra.

610

00:36:03,240 --> 00:36:05,760

(TYRES SCREECH)

Come on! (PIPS HORN)

611

00:36:05,800 --> 00:36:07,680

Wait, you're going left here.

Yeah.

612

00:36:10,400 --> 00:36:13,600

That's it, that's it, that's it.

OK, OK, OK. Ready, ready? Yep.

613

00:36:13,640 --> 00:36:15,640

OK.

614

00:36:16,200 --> 00:36:18,120

OK, I'm out, I'm out.

Yeah.

615

00:36:20,560 --> 00:36:22,520

Annette?

Annette, where's George?

616

00:36:23,240 --> 00:36:25,080

WHERE'S GEORGE?!

(SOBS) I don't know -

617

00:36:25,120 --> 00:36:27,360

WHERE'S GEORGE?!

FOR FUCK'S SAKE, TELL ME!

618

00:36:27,400 --> 00:36:29,520

WHERE IS HE?!

He's down there.

619

00:36:29,560 --> 00:36:31,400

Where?

He's down here!

620

00:36:31,440 --> 00:36:34,040

(HORN BLARES CONTINUOUSLY)

Bring back-up!

621

00:36:36,160 --> 00:36:38,040

Where?! Where?!

Come here!

622

00:36:38,080 --> 00:36:40,080

(SHOUTING)

623

00:36:40,120 --> 00:36:43,320

Come here, come here. You're nicked!

Are you OK? Are you OK?

624

00:36:43,360 --> 00:36:45,600

George Callaghan,

you are under arrest.

625

00:36:45,640 --> 00:36:48,600

Do you understand? Calm down!

Get the balaclava off!

626

00:36:48,640 --> 00:36:51,640

For attempted rape. You do not

have to say anything...

627

00:36:51,680 --> 00:36:54,840

(RECITES CAUTION)

628

00:36:56,600 --> 00:36:58,360

Do you understand?

(LAUGHS)

629

00:36:58,400 --> 00:37:01,480

OK. Get that fucking smile

off your face!

630

00:37:01,920 --> 00:37:03,640

Come on!

631

00:37:05,440 --> 00:37:08,280

Will you wait with her?

There's an ambience coming.

632

00:37:09,360 --> 00:37:11,360

(INAUDIBLE)

633

00:37:16,520 --> 00:37:18,640

OK. ..to be honest.

634

00:37:18,680 --> 00:37:24,280

What's the play? I think, for now,

we should treat Annette as a victim.

635

00:37:24,320 --> 00:37:26,320

You're going in on Callaghan?

Yeah.

636

00:37:26,360 --> 00:37:28,600

I think he's probably going

to implicate her.

637

00:37:28,640 --> 00:37:31,600

We need to release Andrew Bourne.

OK. OK.

638

00:37:31,640 --> 00:37:33,360

OK?

639

00:37:35,760 --> 00:37:39,520

Annette, how on earth have you

got yourself into this?

640

00:37:41,240 --> 00:37:43,080

I don't know. I mean...

641

00:37:43,680 --> 00:37:45,040

It just...

642

00:37:45,080 --> 00:37:48,080

I wanted to do something -

course I did.

643

00:37:48,120 --> 00:37:50,480

So many times I went to go

and call the police.

644

00:37:50,520 --> 00:37:54,680

It's like he could read my mind

because he would always follow me.

645

00:37:54,720 --> 00:37:56,720

Why didn't you call the police

before?

646

00:37:56,760 --> 00:37:58,760

Because he said he would -

647

00:37:58,800 --> 00:38:01,200

He said if I did anything

that he would know,

648

00:38:01,240 --> 00:38:04,920

he said he would kill me in

my sleep, he would strangle me -

649

00:38:04,960 --> 00:38:08,400

or he would go round to my mum

and push her down stairs,

650

00:38:08,440 --> 00:38:11,280

or something like that,

so I just didn't know what to do.

651

00:38:11,320 --> 00:38:13,800

I never knew where he was

or what he was going to do.

652

00:38:13,840 --> 00:38:18,160

I mean... Did you think to try

and escape the situation and leave?

653

00:38:18,200 --> 00:38:20,360

Well, h-how could I have done that?

654

00:38:27,320 --> 00:38:29,320

(SOBS LOUDLY)

655

00:38:32,240 --> 00:38:35,040

Do you want five minutes?

Yeah.

656

00:38:35,080 --> 00:38:38,880

She says she was sold.

She's fucking weak, in't she?

657

00:38:39,040 --> 00:38:40,840

She's fucking innocent.

658

00:38:40,880 --> 00:38:42,880

She did exactly what

I told her to do.

659

00:38:42,920 --> 00:38:46,240

So, you whip her into action,

make her drive you out,

660

00:38:46,280 --> 00:38:48,280

hide you in the boot,

and then wait?

661

00:38:49,240 --> 00:38:51,920

Bullshit.

No? You think it's bullshit? Yeah.

662

00:38:51,960 --> 00:38:54,560

Blinds and lamps, man.

Huh?

663

00:38:54,680 --> 00:38:58,320

You want the psychobabble bullshit,

talk to the fuckin' doctors.

664

00:38:59,800 --> 00:39:03,000

Talk to the doctors.

I'm not interested.

665

00:39:03,040 --> 00:39:06,120

You wanna go poking around in here,

fuckin' go for it, man.

666

00:39:07,800 --> 00:39:11,200

Annette, the thing is,

when you contacted the women,

667

00:39:11,240 --> 00:39:13,200

initially through the internet,

668

00:39:13,240 --> 00:39:16,720

you weren't passive in that.

You were doing that.

669

00:39:16,760 --> 00:39:19,680

Yeah, but he made me do it.

It was his idea.

670

00:39:19,720 --> 00:39:23,040

So, you knew what he was going

to do to those women?

671

00:39:23,080 --> 00:39:25,040

No. No, I didn't, no.

672

00:39:25,080 --> 00:39:28,360

But when I saw it on the news

and realised what must've happened,

673

00:39:28,400 --> 00:39:31,160

and I asked him about it,

he denied it,

674

00:39:31,200 --> 00:39:33,040

but I thought it was him, but no,

675

00:39:33,080 --> 00:39:35,520

I didn't know he was going

to keep on and on and on.

676

00:39:35,560 --> 00:39:37,800

Right. Even though you knew

his history?

677

00:39:37,840 --> 00:39:40,960

Oh... He hadn't done it

for a long time, had he?

678

00:39:41,000 --> 00:39:44,000

I mean, people change, don't they?

679

00:39:44,040 --> 00:39:49,480

Anyway, I've really got to go,

because it's time for me

to see my mum and cook her tea.

680

00:39:49,520 --> 00:39:51,360

So, you know...

Annette, that's fine.

681

00:39:51,400 --> 00:39:54,120

If you give me permission

to use your keys, I can get..'

682

00:39:54,160 --> 00:39:57,840

No, she would not like that.

She's very particular, my mum.

683

00:39:57,880 --> 00:40:00,360

She would not like a stranger

coming to her house.

684

00:40:00,400 --> 00:40:03,960

We've got some more talking to do.

Sit down. No, I-I've got to go,

685

00:40:04,000 --> 00:40:07,040

because I'm late anyway.

Take a seat, please, Annette.

686

00:40:07,080 --> 00:40:08,800

(SIGHS)

687

00:40:08,840 --> 00:40:11,680

Can I have the keys, please,

with your permission?

688

00:40:13,560 --> 00:40:15,920

MUTTERS:

This is fucking ridiculous.

689

00:40:16,840 --> 00:40:20,240

How you doing?

Er, he's smug, proud...

690

00:40:20,280 --> 00:40:23,880

er, but he's given me nothing.

He's to blame. She was weak.

691

00:40:23,920 --> 00:40:27,640

He forced her to do his bidding.

Hm. Predictable. Hm.

692

00:40:27,680 --> 00:40:30,240

Mine's very odd, frankly.

693

00:40:30,280 --> 00:40:32,240

She doesn't want us to go

near her mum,

694

00:40:32,280 --> 00:40:34,880

so first thing we do...

Search team?

695

00:40:34,920 --> 00:40:37,200

Yeah, search team at Mum's, I'd say.

OK.

696

00:40:42,720 --> 00:40:45,440

You won't believe this.

They find Annette's mother,

697

00:40:45,480 --> 00:40:48,360

in the dark, no heating,

no gas, no electricity,

698

00:40:48,400 --> 00:40:51,480

covered in her own shit,

hadn't eaten for three or four days.

699

00:40:51,520 --> 00:40:53,520

No.

She's been lying to us.

700

00:40:54,680 --> 00:40:56,560

(SIGHS)

701

00:40:58,640 --> 00:41:01,240

So, Annette, we've been

to see your mum.

702

00:41:02,880 --> 00:41:05,720

My goodness, my dog lives better

than your mum.

703

00:41:06,720 --> 00:41:08,480

That was a shock.

704

00:41:08,520 --> 00:41:11,560

Well, she's a fucking

dirty old cow, isn't she?

705

00:41:11,600 --> 00:41:14,200

I thought you were looking

after your mum.

706

00:41:14,240 --> 00:41:16,520

Oh, you really like doing this,

don't you?

707

00:41:16,560 --> 00:41:20,760

Are you enjoying this?

Getting off on it, yeah?

708

00:41:20,800 --> 00:41:24,520

Do you resent your mum for having

let you go into care, is that it?

709

00:41:26,600 --> 00:41:29,560

Is that why you're treating

your mum as you are now? Pff!

710

00:41:29,600 --> 00:41:31,320

No-one to look after her,

is that it?

711

00:41:31,360 --> 00:41:34,800

No-one said that about me when

she was treating me like that.

712

00:41:34,840 --> 00:41:36,720

No.

How was she treating you?

713

00:41:38,880 --> 00:41:42,240

She didn't want to know, did she?

She was just out with all her...

714

00:41:42,280 --> 00:41:44,520

her boyfriends,

as she liked to call them.

715

00:41:45,920 --> 00:41:48,880

Beating her up, beating me up -

she didn't care, did she?

716

00:41:48,920 --> 00:41:50,920

She'd rather keep them than me.

717

00:41:50,960 --> 00:41:57,200

And is that fact that you felt that

you were at risk from the abuse,

718

00:41:57,240 --> 00:41:59,640

and that your mother was being

abused,

719

00:41:59,680 --> 00:42:03,360

anything to do with the fact that

all of the women you contacted -

720

00:42:03,400 --> 00:42:06,800

Oh, for fuck's sake! You don't even

know what you're talking about!

721

00:42:06,840 --> 00:42:10,520

You're just talking a load of shit!

A load of crap!

722

00:42:10,560 --> 00:42:14,200

All of the women were victims

of domestic abuse.

723

00:42:14,240 --> 00:42:16,000

Well, they...

Weren't they?

724

00:42:16,040 --> 00:42:19,960

They had a choice, didn't they?

They didn't have to stay with

men like that.

725

00:42:20,000 --> 00:42:23,480

They don't care. So you feel you

were trying to help these women?

726

00:42:23,520 --> 00:42:25,240

Of course I was.

727

00:42:25,280 --> 00:42:28,840

I told them no woman should put up

with shit like that from any man.

728

00:42:28,880 --> 00:42:33,320

If you think you were helping them,

how good a job do you think you've

done so far?

729

00:42:33,360 --> 00:42:36,600

Well, they're not gonna make

the same mistake again, are they?

730

00:42:36,640 --> 00:42:38,560

Put it that way.

731

00:42:39,560 --> 00:42:41,880

Was that why you picked them?

732

00:42:42,560 --> 00:42:45,200

Cos they were like your mum,

weren't they, really?

733

00:42:45,560 --> 00:42:48,760

You were just cherry-picking out...

734

00:42:48,800 --> 00:42:51,720

women that reminded you of Mum.

Is that it?

735

00:42:52,720 --> 00:42:54,600

If you say so.

736

00:42:54,640 --> 00:42:58,760

Were you so angry with your mum

that you thought this was

the best way to get back at -

737

00:42:58,800 --> 00:43:02,360

I'm fucking angry at YOU

for fucking holding me here

738

00:43:02,400 --> 00:43:04,960

when I haven't done anything!

I told you!

739

00:43:05,000 --> 00:43:07,520

I haven't done anything!

740

00:43:08,160 --> 00:43:10,800

Annette Walker, I'm going to,

under the circumstances,

741

00:43:10,840 --> 00:43:14,280

arrest you for...

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!

742

00:43:14,320 --> 00:43:17,360

..and GBH. (COUGHS) You don't not

have to say anything...

743

00:43:17,400 --> 00:43:20,200

(RECITES CAUTION)

MUTTERS: I can't hear you.

744

00:43:20,240 --> 00:43:23,160

I can't hear you. I can't hear you.

745

00:43:23,200 --> 00:43:26,240

I can't hear you. I can't hear you.

Do you understand, Annette?

746

00:43:26,280 --> 00:43:29,080

I can't hear you.

Annette, do you understand?

747

00:43:29,120 --> 00:43:31,120

SHOUTS: I can't hear you!

748

00:43:31,160 --> 00:43:34,280

I've been very clear,

but the response to caution

749

00:43:34,320 --> 00:43:36,880

was that she couldn't hear me,

so I am repeating.

750

00:43:36,920 --> 00:43:39,240

Do you understand, Annette?

751

00:43:46,440 --> 00:43:48,960

Do you understand, Annette?

752

00:43:49,000 --> 00:43:50,960

Yes.

753

00:43:53,120 --> 00:43:56,640

Victim is Terrence Holland,

investment banker -

754

00:43:56,680 --> 00:43:58,720

hence this very lovely penthouse.

755

00:43:58,760 --> 00:44:00,480

He's also terminally ill,

756

00:44:00,520 --> 00:44:03,000

found in an apparent drugs

overdose in the bedroom.

757

00:44:03,040 --> 00:44:06,560

He couldn't have used his arms.

He could not have done that himself.

758

00:44:06,600 --> 00:44:10,160

Let's look at his last will

and testament, I think.

759

00:44:10,200 --> 00:44:13,360

See who's most likely to benefit

from his death.

760

00:44:13,400 --> 00:44:16,920

Mrs Holland, to continue my

investigation, I need to arrest you.

761

00:44:16,960 --> 00:44:19,080

I don't want to use these.

762

00:44:19,120 --> 00:44:21,040

Oh, my God!

Let's go quickly and quietly.

763

00:44:21,080 --> 00:44:23,360

Five minutes and I'll talk to you.

764

00:44:23,400 --> 00:44:26,480

I which case, I'm happy

to arrest you in the corridor.

765

00:44:26,520 --> 00:44:29,320

What? I'm arresting you on

suspicion of assisted suicide.

766

00:44:29,360 --> 00:44:31,560

I will cuff you or I will hold you.

767

00:44:31,600 --> 00:44:34,680

All right, hold me, but I will

talk to my solicitor, thank you.

768

00:44:35,520 --> 00:44:38,240

Martin Holland? Stand there!

Stand there! Stand there!

769

00:44:38,280 --> 00:44:42,120

Stand there! Stand still!

Stop. Fuckers!

SUSPECTS EPISODE 3 SCENE BREAKDOWN

(please note, this is not an official document, just an attempt at a scene breakdown purely for the purposes of information. All scenes in brackets are scenes where Damien does not appear).

Scene 1 (00.00 - 01.13)

Newsreader voiceover:

"Police are now hunting a serial rapist, after a third woman was attacked last night by the West WIllow canal. As with previous assaults, the victim was grabbed from behind by a masked assailant"

Jack and Martha are on the crime scene with a police unit and forensics. Martha makes a statement to the press, Jack points out there is little evidence so far and the area has little or no cctv footage which is why the attacker probably chose the spot. There have been 2 more attacks in the area and assailant also had a certain amount of forensic knowledge as he was wearing a balaclava and gloves each time.
