So the s1 repeat will finish at around the same time as the BB finale. This means that the tx date for Suspects could be as early as Aug 20th!! (....she says with as much caution as possible....which, lets face it, probably isn't enoigh! Eeek!!)
So...do you think I'm safe to abandon any pretence of caution yet...?!

Yep... after Big Brother a safe bet! either the week beginning 18 or 25 August! But Channel 5 did say Autumn for series 2 so they may just push it into September.... hopefully we will know soon.
Another big soap star has been announced for Suspects....
and....
"The network's original crime drama - which stars Fay Ripley, Damien Molony and Clare-Hope Ashitey - will return to screens with two hour-long specials in the autumn."
More Series 2 info and first promo image, via Geektown!
"Season Two of Channel 5’s critically acclaimed original crime drama Suspects, starring Fay Ripley, Damien Molony and Clare-Hope Ashitey will launch later this year with a 2 x 1 hour special featuring a stellar line up of guest artistes – Charlie Brooks(EastEnders, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here), Dominic Power (Emmerdale, The Bill), Claire Cooper (Waking the Dead,Hollyoaks), Luke Newberry (In The Flesh, Sherlock) and Katie Jarvis (Fish Tank).
This two part special opens with barrister Jonathan Moxton found naked, tied up and covered in blood – it looks like a sex game has gone very wrong indeed. DI Martha Bellamy (Fay Ripley) and her team, DS Jack Weston (Damien Molony) and DC Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Steele (Clare-Hope Ashitey) soon suspect that it was actually a premeditated attack. Who hit Jonathan with a hammer? And why is DS Jack Weston so rattled by this case?
Soon falling under suspicion are Jonathan’s dutiful and respectable wife, Tanya Moxton (Charlie Brooks), paranoid schizophrenic Saul Hammond (Dominic Power) and Saul’s appropriate adult Sadie Burns (Katie Jarvis). Uncovering more of Jonathan’s secrets leads the team to Nate Turner (Luke Newberry). When a second man is found battered with a hammer, Martha, Jack and Charlie are horrified – this time the attack is fatal. Is Saul Hammond – whom they let out on bail – responsible for both attacks? As the investigation unfolds, drug-user Carol Collins (Claire Cooper) also comes under the spotlight. The team must catch this serial offender before they strike again."
And why is DS Jack Weston so rattled by this case?
Sounds EXCITING!!!!

Feels like they want to make Suspects big. Possibly in a way they never intended in the beginning? On the one hand it would be easy to assume this was all in the plans. They were testing the waters with S1, and then decided it was definitely a hit, so they invested more resources into growing it. They've brought in well known actors as guest stars. Already feels like a good publicity campaign is taking off... But it's still seems odd that they filmed 10 episodes, announced 10 episodes, then cut S1 in half and are airing new episodes before the previously filmed ones. On-the-fly decision based on it being widely received then? As a lay person, I was actually worried it wasn't getting the attention and would not be renewed for a S2. Thank goodness I was wrong!!!!
The first 5 episodes were pretty much freestanding. We got tidbits of the characters' personalies, little "golden nuggets", to use Damien's words, of their personal lives, but pretty much none of the episodes relied on any of the others as far as character building (or case overlap/history). So it will be interesting how the episodes filmed last year will slot in with the new ones, especially with new one's coming in before the old ones. I suppose since they are keeping the same format and look that it will not make a difference what sort of things are revealed character-wise in the new episodes vs what was already planned before.

"will return to screens with two hour-long specials in the autumn." (DS)
"will be comprised of five additional episodes, " (DS)
"will launch later this year with a 2 x 1 hour special" (GT)
"and a further two part special in which the team investigate a paedophile ring."(GT)
So are there two 2 part specials? (i.e 2 episodes per storyline) or are there two hour long specials (i.e episodes per storyline)?
It has to be the former surely as previous episodes have always been an hour including adverts (unless they mean an hour with ads on top) and if that is the case... 2 storylines may be filling a total 4 episodes...with 3 storylines of the original 5 left... so making them 2 part specials brings it to 7 episodes?
or is it the latter, with 2 new storylines on top of the 5 remaining episodes already filmed ?
I agree with you Whimsy, they're obviously trying to make Suspects big now. I like where this is going!
Not sure was it their intention though. Perhaps that's why they might have announced 10 eps but cut them in two seasons after their show got good feedback and started filming new ones.
In new season 3 there is many well known actors, this show has international fans already and they have aired only 5 eps! It got nominated in TV Choice Awards and it's been noticed!
Me too Jozie! the confusion is whether it is a 2 part special of one storyline, an hour each part (the actual DS quote is "two hour long specials") or whether there are 2 specials, each an hour long, to open the series! (does that make sense?) it is the use of specialS that is confusing if it was one special it would be a two part special not two hour long specialS
The GT article states a further two part special.. so no it doesn't seem to be referring to the same thing, but in addition to.
and the quotes refer to series 2, but the Geektown article is mentioning Emmett Scanlan in the paragraph with the additional two part special... so it could be referring to series 3... which is a little misleading methinks!
it could mean series 2 opens with a special which covers 2 episodes. (but the DS article doesn't make that clear!) then there are an additional 5 episodes.. so a total of 6 episodes for series 2 ! and the additional special referred to by GT could mean the same format for series 3.
According to this article from Entertainment - STV, not only Charlie Brooks, Dominic Power and Katie Jarvis, but also Luke Newberry and Emmett Scanlan and Claire Cooper are in the opening 2 part special for Series 2 too!(?) (not sure this is accurate.. all the guest stars in the opening episode?)
"Charlie and a host of other guest stars - including 'Fish Tank' actress Katie Jarvis, Dominic Power, Luke Newberry and Claire Cooper - will appear in the show's two-part premiere later this year which will see Detective Inspector Martha Bellamy (Fay Ripley) and her team attempt to solve the mystery of a sex game gone wrong."
Ok so after reading around the net, Suspects Series 2 opens with a 2 part special and guest stars are Charlie Brooks, Dominic Power, Luke Newberry, Claire Cooper, and Katie Jarvis. We knew about all the guest stars apart from Charlie Brooks, but did not know they would be appearing in series 2, or in a 2 part special, very exciting news!

I pretty much agree with this. I'd imagine it was an 'on-the-fly' decision by channel 5. Presumably once they saw that the series was well recieved by the critics, they decided to pull the rest of the series and save it for a re-launch in the hope of getting more pubicity and better viewing figures. I guess if it hadn't they'd have just let the 10eps run and forgotten about it. And the fact that the 1st 5ps were well recieved, and people could see how it worked will have undoubtedly helped to draw in well know and popular actors as guest stars, which, in turn, increases awareness.
However this/these 'specials' work, the term alone is enough to create a sense of hype....especially when coupled with 'guest stars'......
Looks like channel 5 are definitely upping the promotion this time round. News of a new series & guest stars Charlie Brook and Claire Cooper on Suspects just featured on a news update on 5USA.

Wow, that is awesome Becca, thanks for letting us know!
The addition of super well known cast from big UK soaps and drams and the 2 part opener will certainly up the profile of Suspects and it is so exciting to see the publicity begin.
But am I the only one who thinks Channel 5 did a fab job of promoting series 1? we had all kinds of goodies! I guess as fans we will always want more, More MORE!
You think they've cut together an episode already and did a screening? I just thought he was referring to press day.
