The last scenes of this episode were heartstoppingly, edge-of-your-seat fantastic drama. I don't know if I wanted to find out that he HAD done something to Edward, or if I didn't. There was just so much tension leading up to this, it would almost have been a relief if he HAD.

Relations are strained within the team again, Charlie tries to cool Jack down but he is off on his own trip and Martha is "slightly sick of babysitting." Charlie replies, "you and me both."
And Martha's sarcastic: Take a dip while you're there. Be careful. Don't drown yourself.

I need to leave soon so I'm telling all what I think.
Scene 41, liking how the emotions burst out from Jack but it was like standup comedy when he leaves with such a anger and few seconds late comes back.
"Don't drown yourself" <--- This is why I love Martha.
Scene 44, Martha says what we all have been thinking. Jack is the true enemy of himself.
The moment Jack comes to the crime scene and after giving orders he sees trashes and says; "Okay there's fuckinggg (he checks out if somebody hear) shitload of stuff here"
The fact he is hiding the evidence behind his back and same time lying to that police officer got me cold chills. I knew something really bad was coming.. And I got hunch what.
On each re-watch my sympathies grow and grow towards jack, understanding completely his frustration and his actions, and my hatred of Edward grows too...
on first viewing the hiding the towel scene, (such a heart thumping pivotal scene!) my insides were screaming "No Jack, no!" because i feared this would take him beyond the point of no return with his career.
But, with further watches i find myself more gleefully willing him on, to catch the bastard to do whatever it takes
In fact - I love the whole interaction in sc41......Charlies WTF face....her "I have grey towels" put down. And Martha ".....get down to the towpath, extend the search area, Take a dip while you're there. Be careful. Don't drown yourself." Love it!
When he hid that evidence behind his back I broke out in goosebumps. And then the look on his face through the rear-view mirror.

The most brilliant things in this show is, that even you re-watch, it almost feel like you are watching it first time cause you pay attention to every detail. And my sympathies grow too towards Jack domino.
Made me think about all those cops who are right all along and watch the guilty one walk away...
yes whimsy, heartstopping and edge of your seat stuff! couldn't believe Suspects could get any more gripping but it ramped it up even more in this episode!
Yes Jozie, Jack is the true enemy of himself... but only because of the confines of the system he works in. The whole dynamic is thought provoking!
But I need to go now, it's over midnight here but this was great (as always) thank you domino once again for all the trouble and time you put trough for arranging this, brilliant work with synopsis and pics! :)
Thanks all who came, was lovely to change thoughts about this ep, one of my favorites so far and the next one!
There is a theme here throughout this episode of Jack being more of a maverick than Charlie, his attitude has been in the past, he has the gut instinct, he gets the results...and there is a sense that anything else is delaying or wasting time. Charlie tries to warn him or rein him in a couple of times. In the end.... they BOTH find evidence, but Charlie goes though the 'correct' channels , follows 'procedure' where jack goes off the track... is there a suggestion being made there?
I fully sympathise with Jack at this point, but in the end he didn't need to resort to those measures.
Your sympathies do get heightened, especially with re-watches. In so many cop shows, everything flows so well scripted that you never have that sense of urgency and frustration. I will watch those with the understanding that in the end they will catch the perpetrators. In Suspects, it's so much more realistic, so much more PRESENT. They have effectively - combining the method of shooting, with the twisty storylines, with the few glimpses into character backstory, and with the very expressive, reactionary acting - captured what it must be like for real detectives.

Damien seems to get a lot of roles with maverick/dichotic (is that even a word?) characters. The other two mains seem to be very straight forward roles so far. It's why I'm so annoyed that he doesn't get nominated for individual awards.

Well said whimsy, agree, the ultra realistic style accentuated the jaw dropping heart stopping -ness of the whole finding / hiding / almost planting the towel..
Jack has the experience so feels he can be more of a maverick - Charlie needs to show that she does things the right way at this stage in her career. But is Jack too confident? He thinks he's untouchable. The rules are there for a reason.
fifi, just saw your comment on the whole grey towel dialogue, yes! there is so much happening in that whole exchange thanks for highlighting that, its one of those things that gets noticed on watching but unless we point it out it's not externalised. Awards for improv all round!
Yes Jane & domino. He seems drawn to very complex, out of the norm characters. As much as I would LOVE to see him in something light, your guy-next-door romantic role for instance, I have to give him props for really going for the very nuanced characters. And how well he portrays them.
It's a horrendous oversight that his talent has not been properly recognized by mainstream channels. YET!

Jane, not wanting to take it off topic, but I'd say Damo's talent is recognised far more widely that the forum, or he'd not get such amazing roles! agree about the awards though.
