I agree on the foreshadowing. I was surprised also by Jack's statements about the man taking things into his own hands. Seems like that would be the type of guy he'd root for. But then again, Jack wants to be the caped crusader...
Jane, I sensed the dance studio guy too, but wasn't disappointed because they ended up having quite a bit of twists with the wife and that doctor's involvement...

Jack started to show this other side of him, seemed that in this point even Damien knew who Jack was and sort of reached Jack's true identity after getting more confidence
I have to agree, one of my favorites. Reminiscent of my S1 favorite, the one with the girl that got stabbed. Because Jack really gets involved (but unlike the last one, he's not such a dick to Charlie & Martha.

I don't disagree with Jack that it is a dangerous thing to take the law into your own hands, but it is the way that Jack talks about him, a bit harsh and as Charlie said hardly fair...
it is that ongoing thread about Charlie being the Junior but somehow needing to temper Jack's comments or opinions - she often comes across as the more level headed and dare i say it professional detective. But I guess it is his fire and passion that make him as incisive and perceptive...the gut instinct
His emotional inteligence is back on track.....he is very sensitive with Kelly - but is not very sympathetic about her dad, who Kelly also describes - not very kindly - as being a 'hero'!
that's an interesting observation Jozie. I felt that for all four of the episodes in S2. Damien hit the ground running, really felt confident in Jack's skin. So much more delving into his past, his motives, his state of mind. And how far he's willing to go to get the bad guy.

I thought it was kind of odd that both this one and the last one involved Martha tangentially. The first episode happened in her neighborhood and this one involved her daughter's dance studio. I guess this is their way of fleshing out the main characters a bit without showing us their family lives.

Yes Whimsy, but I felt like in this point he knew every corner of Jack himself. You can see it right from the start. We were facing the "dark side of Jack" in this ep and after watching these episodes you can realize that he had more confidence in this season, but in this (and second one) he knew through and through what kind of man Jack is. Observation I made only after re-watching.
On the way to the dance studio, Jack tells Charlie he did Irish dancing for three years, with a little skip up the step. Once inside they meet Tamsin and Edward Shaffer who run the dance studio. Edward tells them that Scott rang him that morning to ask him to go with him to film the confrontation with the paedophile, he didn't go because Tamsin would not let him, but he has gone once before. Charlie questions why he got involved at all and the right thing to do would be to come to the police.
Scene 8 ( 06.49 -07.38)
In the staffroom Jack is drinking a cuppa, when Martha walks in and asks how it went at Daisy's dance school. Jack tells her that Edward Shaffer was a "reluctant cameraman" in the past but not involved this morning. Charlie comes to tell them she has CCTV footage of Rose Freeman using Scott's cash card at 9.45 this morning. The footage shows her as extremely jittery and reveals her location.
Scene 9 ( 07.39 - 08.29 )
Jack and Charlie go to pick up Rose, where she struggles and screams. Charlie arrests her on suspicion of GBH.
[shot of car returning to HQ]
Scene 10 ( 08.30 - 09.05 )
In the main office Jack tells Charlie and Martha he has been looking through Rose's mobile phone, where he found a text from Scott saying "I found the bastard". On the way to the station, Rose had told Charlie and Jack that she had been raped and that it was the rapist who attacked her Dad, not her.
Scene 11 ( 09.06 - 09.41 )
Jack talks to Kelly in the hospital, and asks her about Rose's rape claim. Kelly tells him Rose has said it happened 8 or 9 years ago, when they went away somewhere.
Scene 12 ( 09.42 - 10.02 )
In the main office Jack reports back to Martha and Charlie that the rape happened 9 years ago at a dance competition in Brighton, when Rose was just a child and both girls were under the care of Edward and Tamsin Shaffer.
The way he pauses in scene 11 when he has to ask Kelly about the rape... I really felt empathy from Jack on this case more than any of the others.
