Suspects is due to return to UK TV screens 13 January 2015 on Channel 5.
Appearing on the channel’s topical debate programme The Wright Stuff, Fay Ripley and show host Matthew Wright announced the premiere date for upcoming Series 3 this morning.
The show also aired an exclusive clip, featuring Fay Ripley as DI Martha Bellamy telling DS Jack Weston (Damien) she is glad he is back, but that this is his last chance.
The end of Series 2 saw Jack being sent to the naughty corner and forced off duty, advised by Martha to take six weeks leave. The clip reveals Jack is back in the driving seat in series 3, but the Boss lets him know who is in charge.
DS Jack Weston: I know I made a mistake.. thanks a million for taking me back
DI Martha Bellamy: Eyes are on you Jack, alright?
DS Jack Weston: I want you to know I’m ready to go, I’ve moved on from it, if you have
DI Martha Bellamy: Last chance, I guess. But I’m damn glad you’re back
DS Jack Weston: Thanks boss. Did you miss me?
DI Martha Bellamy: Just don’t f*** up alright?
The new series will comprise four brand new episodes, airing in the new year across a two week period, Episode 1 landing on Tuesday 13 January, followed by episode 2 on Wedneday 14 January.
The three lead actors (Damien Fay Ripley and Clare-Hope Ashitey) will be joined by guest cast Emmett J. Scanlan, (The Fall, Constantine, Hollyoaks), Chris Coghill, (24 Hour Party People, EastEnders), Jody Latham (Shameless, Waterloo Road), Ben Peel (The Fall, Hunger), Ray Fearon (Da Vinci’s Demons, The Hooligan Factory), Lucy Gaskell (Being Human, Misfits, Casualty), and Kathryn Drysdale (Benidorm, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps)

So interesting, and particularly loving this bit about Damien:
"We give the Suspects actors their background stories, which are very detailed and factual, but no script, so it's entirely up to them what they say in their scenes. Damien Moloney (DS Jack Weston) is so brilliant, he'll go through everything with the actor playing the suspect, then go into the interview and do it all in a different order to unsettle him, just like a real detective would. It's great fun to make; there's great freedom."

One of the things (among all the obvious) that I admire about Damien is his intelligence which he brings to all aspects of his acting. For a start to get a degree at Trinity College, Dublin is no mean feat!
It sounds like Damien the actor is (a little bit) as much the maverick as Jack Weston the character... what a great way to get a totally spontaneous performance out of your fellow actors, no wonder those interview scenes are so sizzlingly good!
and Paul Marquess drinks mint tea! I suddenly feel I've joined the cool club! but I hope he breaks this habit where Suspects is concerned: "the producer who has killed off so many leading characters, he's been dubbed 'The Axeman'"
So Paul Marquess is the George R. R. Martin of the UK TV world! lol Well, this show would be in trouble for certain, as there are only 3 leads!
I wonder with the fact that they clearly have episodes from "S1" that still will not have aired for S3, what the plans are. Would be lovely if the show grew, if we got a proper series 4 with lots of episodes. or something. I keep hoping.

I keep hoping too Whimsy! Have been sitting here so long and thinking about those unseen episodes, what will they do to them..
This interview some of the questions we have all been asking!
"It didn't work for the first few days and it took us all some time to work out what we were doing. We've made 17 of these shows now - which is a lot - and on the first lot we learnt how to shoot it, the second lot we learnt how to edit it and we'll learn how to write it next time!! The writing's still really hard.
"But when you look at what people are saying online, they say it feels real, it feels immersive, it feels fresh… all the things that we're setting out to do. So without appearing smug, we're really proud of it - and we're really proud of our cast. Those three… my God, they're good. They're just fantastic. As Cheryl says on The X Factor, props to them - whatever that means!"
DS: After series three ofSuspects, you've got another four episodes filmed and ready to air - are there plans for more beyond that?
"Ben [Frow] said to me recently that Channel 5 could only have dreamt about the reviews that Suspects has had and the last four did really well in terms of ratings, as well. So there is definitely talk. We're very hopeful about that."
This interview has some little gems of info in it!!
So...they've made 17 eps altogether. Obviously they filmed 10 eps in 2013 (omg! is it really that long ago!!).....and I remember that somebody (think it might have been Morgan Jeffery) said that s2 would have 7 eps.....so it would seem that they actually did film another 7 last summer! Which means that at least one ep from s3 is definately one of the original ones. And that means they've still got another 4 to air.....wonder if they'll go out in the summer after BB again - hope so!
And it sounds fantastically optimistic that there will be more to come after that....
This was an exciting, hopeful read! Everything you said fifi, plus "we'll learn how to write it next time" and hmmm, ep2 a really dark episode...
Also a new photo.
