Damien Molony (Spike) and Olivia Vinall (Hilary), The Hard Problem NT Live Trailer
The Hard Problem has a brand new trailer, giving us our first glimpse at footage of Damien in the play.
Released today by National Theatre Live, the trailer heralds the play’s broadcast to cinemas worldwide on 16 April and gives the best insight yet into the Tom Stoppard and Nicholas Hytner production.
Damien plays Spike alongside Olivia Vinall as Hilary, both academics and occasional lovers. The trailer reveals that sparks fly between the two not only in the bedroom, but also in debate on the central themes of the play.
The footage also comes complete with Spike scantily clad in a silky gown!
Check it out below.
After a brief two-week hiatus, the production returns to the Dorfman at the National Theatre Friday 27 March until 27 May.
We are delighted The Hard Problem is part of National Theatre Live’s broadcast programme, making the play accessible to the mass audience including international fans. Better still, the broadcasts are filmed and transmitted live during the performance of the play and give the cinema audience ‘the best seat in the house’!
Further encore screenings of the play after the initial live broadcast will additionally be shown.
From a personal point of view I am so happy they have used Bach's prelude No.1 in C major I PLAY THIS ALL THE TIME! (it's simple but moves me). This has made it magical for me!
If anyone is interested in hearing the whole piece, I have posted a video here of me playing it. (you need to be logged in to see this.. sorry lurkers).
My shallow comments: God he's sexy when he's snarky. The way he scrunches his face and winks when he says "It's just not what you think it is" and the little finger waggle when he says "if you want something cuddly try business studies"... And then there's the thighporn and that kiss...
Ok, on less shallow note, I really hope we see interviews. I am curious to know Damien's thoughts on the play and his character.

Awesome GIFS whimsy!!! You knew which moments to capture.... all snarky, silky, sassy and snoggy.. ahem...
Thank you for making these and for sharing them!
How right you are Jozie, the trailer is very Damo-centric!
The balance of humour with the brain exercising subject matter is about perfect too.
"I feel the same about what you're wearing" made me LOL!
No too far.
I used to live near one of the cities where they play it, but I moved to Wrocław a few years ago. And now I'm disabled, so travelling is very difficult for me.
I don't now why they don't play it here. Previous plays they did.
Whimsy, you are GIF master, I freaking love those!!
Oh no Dzasti, can you write for your local theatre about the play and ask about if they could get interested of showing this play or something? I'm sure if tickets will sell they might reconsider. So unfair
