I just think it would have been too controversial for some. Such a shame though because it sounded amazing and would have been such a treat to see Damien is something so different and challenging.

But they knew it would be controversial before they ordered it to pilot? Plus, as James M said in his interview, HBO are used to controversial content and in this case it wasn't just sexual content for titillation but for a point. Plus it's Jenji Kohan so you have a rough idea what territory you're heading into... and they could have appropriately rated it etc etc... wonder if there were any negotiations about the possibility of 'toning it down' which of course would have compromised her vision, so... and as we've discussed earlier in this thread, difficult for another network to pick this up because it was made by HBO & Lionsgate.

The thing is, everything is controversial for someone. I don't swear and hate hearing it, but there are times it is appropriate to a character on tv or in a film and I accept that; I think most sex scenes are unnecessary and done to titillate rather than essential to the plot but they are in so many things - even scenes added to Shakespeare, for goodness sake. The sex scenes in this seem to have been part of the plot and I fancied the storyline anyway but my tv is very unusual in that I am able to tune to a different channel or even turn it off altogether if I don't want to see what's on. No one is actually forced to watch anything they don't want to.

I'm more inclined to get angry at historical inaccuracies in periods I know about. I couldn't watch more than two episodes of "Rome", for instance.

There seems to be an increasingly conservative agenda in the 'west' these days. I suspect that commercial forces were at play here and the controversial nature of the show may have put off financial backers.

I'm not sure about the timings of these things....but I'm assuming that HBO decided to go with Westworld - which seems to be their next big show - rather than The Devil You Know.  But I must admit that with the end of Games of Thrones now in sight (almost....) I'm clinging on to the hope that they might still come back to this in the future.

So, this image has been added to the 'The Devil You Know' IMDb page! Should we read anything into this? (Bearing in mind anyone can upload stuff to IMDb, but it does have to be approved / verified and images are harder to upload...)

Hmmmm.... There have been no other news about this? I mean, it was cancelled, right? Maybe they might get excited about the idea again, perhaps few changes and hopefully with the same people

Fingers crossed - as long as Damien is still in it!

It would seem strange to add something to the IMDB page if this project had been completely shelved.

My thoughts exactly Rosie... but it also seems strange for something to be added to the IMDb page with nothing else mentioned about the project anywhere else at all...

Jenji K's new TC show 'Glow' is released on Netflix 23 June, and series 5 of 'Orange Is The New Black' on 9 June. Kate Nash who co-starred with Damien in TDYK will appear in 'Glow' ...Surely it's not futile to hope this has a positive effect, somehow, on TDYK..?

tangentially

This project, from this writer, simply cannot remain hidden from the audience forever! *stamps foot*
