Kill Your Friends is set to make its market premiere at Cannes 2015 tomorrow and has already been acquired for distribution in North America and Canada, as well as German-speaking Europe.
The film has two screenings on Thursday 14 and Saturday 16 May as part of Altitude Film’s sales slate at Cannes, which opens its doors to the international film market today.
Ahead of the market premiere, Variety reports that Kill Your Friends has been acquired by Well Go USA Entertainment for distribution in North America and Canada.
The announcement comes shortly after the news that Ascot Elite picked up the movie for German-speaking Europe (via Screendaily.)
Earlier this year, John Niven announced a September 2015 release date, but according toVariety, Well Go USA plan to take the film on the festival circuit this year, with a release early next year.
The movie’s soundtrack includes songs from Radiohead, Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Oasis and Blur.
“If you loved music in the 90s, and you liked ‘The Player,’ ‘Swimming with Sharks’ and ‘American Psycho,’ it still doesn’t come close to describing how savagely brilliant this movie is,” said Doris Pfardrescher, president and CEO of Well Go USA. “The way it skewers every part of the music industry is outrageous and hysterical,” she said.
Damien plays Ross in the film, alongside a stellar cast including Nicholas Hoult, Roseanna Arquette, James Corden, Georgia King, Craig Roberts, Tom Riley and Joseph Mawle.
Our favourite actor is currently appearing in cinemas across the world in National Theatre Live screenings of The Hard Problem. He is also heading to the big screen this year in a leading role in ‘pitch black’ thriller Tiger Raid.

Kill Your Friends is directed by Owen Harris, produced by Gregor Cameron (UNIGRAM), Will Clarke (Altitude Film Entertainment) and Len Blavatnik (AI Film and Warner Music Group) and will be released in the UK by STUDIOCANAL.
So I might be just a bit excited that 'Kill Your Friends' has its market premiere ar Cannes today! Does this mean we may be hearing a little more about the film at last?
The Variety piece is the first to mention specific bands on the soundtrack... I'm having fun guessing which Radiohead, Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Oasis and Blur songs might be used - especially for the most outageous scenes! Ha!
And...."if.... you liked ‘The Player,’ ‘Swimming with Sharks’ and ‘American Psycho,’ it still doesn’t come close to describing how savagely brilliant this movie is" is such a compelling description! This film is going to be so damn good!
Did anyone else watch the Cannes live stream in the past couple of days? There was a lot of Nicholas Hoult's other project Mad Max, not a mention of Kill Your Friends!
And a little moan... Could at least one of the articles on Kill Your Firneds mention Damien? I mean, come on guys! Oh hang on.. I DID!
No more news from Cannes, but the second market premiere is happening at 2pm today!
Here is the Cannes live stream:
But not sure the market premieres get any screen time, or just films in competition. Damien obviously will not be at Cannes, because he is performinging in The Hard Problem.
