Marcella is a spirited character who crashes her way through life, assisted by her dubious life-coach, best friend and ever-patient driving instructor. Bouncing back from a seismic break-up, clinging to her dreams of becoming an actress and finally learning to drive, Marcella is on a mission to change her future for the better. In episode one, a boozy night has some disastrous consequences for Marcella - including a ruined children's party, a lot of missed calls from her ex-boyfriend, and an unwanted house-guest who's never seen Friends. Meanwhile, her temping job takes an unexpectedly dramatic twist and, in her first life-coaching session, she admits that her dreams of becoming a full-time actress aren't going to plan.
Loved it! Perfect transition from the Pilot. cracking comedy, but also has a very unique edge, it's quirky and quality. Marcella is so likable, and hilarious and tragic, immediately engaging. Agree there is not enough of Damien in this ep, but how exciting to see him as a new character! And that he has this special role in relation to the lead character.. with something obviously growing between Jon and Marcella I think we are going to be seeing more of him! Beautifully awkward and special. Glad it was a double bill because it passed too quickly!
I thought it was really amusing, Marcella is quite sympathetic. Not enough Damien, but love the buzz between them. They work together really well. I laughed out loud a couple of times - one was Damien's 'This is the point when you just tell her you've a driving lesson booked".
Looking forward to seeing episode 2!
Funny as hell.... still laughing at some of the one liners ... and knew it wasn't going to be just flat out comedy, but it's impressive how tonal Gameface is... thinking of the rooftop scene so many emotions simultaneously. Bravo, seriously, to Roisin Conaty
I think I was expecting ep one to be a reworking of the pilot episode - especially as they started with a double bill....but I'm glad it wasn't. I must admit that I enjoyed it much more than the pilot (and not just because Damien was in it )
It's pretty brave to start your new comedy series with a story about somebody contemplating suicide! But it set the tone really well for some proper laugh out loud moments in the face of tragedy.
I'm glad it was a double bill to start - this episode seemed to all be over so quickly! But it was a great start.....it's very centered around Roisin/Marcella - which is fair enough! - but I already care about her and am totally rooting for her already..... Obviously not enough Damien....but a brilliant start!
I've seen the episodes last week and i love it. As I said before, I did not know Roisin before. But I find her and her role sympathetic. The mix of comedy and tragedy is well done and still the series is very funny. And Jon? How can someone be so nice and grumpy at the same time? I love the two together, it's a special chemistry. I can hardly wait for Thursday, I need to know how to go on.
Keep the screencaps coming as well as as many spoilers as you can possibly share. I'm in withdrawal until I can watch via Hulu here in November. I absolutely can't wait!!!
