Exciting news, The Split has been renewed for a third (and final) series!
Damien is not mentioned on the press release, here is very much hoping for more Tyler Donaghue and Damien being part of what happens next.. how can he not, after that intense magnificantly messy ending of series 2?
Press reads:
"Nicola Walker, Stephen Mangan, Annabel Scholey, Fiona Button, Deborah Findlay and Chukwudi Iwuji will be reprising their roles for the final instalment, with exciting new cast announcements to follow soon."
The new series will pick up 10 months after the end of series 2.. so anything could have happened in the meantime.
Meanwhile, series 2 is still available to watch on the BBC iplayer (UK) and Sundance TV (US)
Honestly it's driving me mad, not knowing! I know that Tyler and the sister is a subplot but many actually find it more interesting than the main couple. I'm just taking it for granted (and crossing my fingers) that Tyler (Damien) is in this series.
I'm with you entirely Ellie, my main worry is the time gap between series / stories and that they may have moved things on and only mention retrospectively in a kind of 'Xander / Tyler broke up should have got a pre nup type thing'... but to not follow up the Nina / Tyler story directly, Damien bias aside, would be a huge nagging narrative gap after that cliff hanger ! It would be different if series 2 had ended with discovery and consequences, but it didn't... so ...
"Other returning cast members include Damien Molony (Tyler), Chukwudi Iwuji (Zander), Rudi Dharmalingham (James), Elizabeth Roberts (Liv Stern), Ian McElhinney (Prof Ronnie), Anna Chancellor (Melanie Aickman) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Glen Peters)." source
Laura Pulver from Sherlock is joining the cast, and Dee Koppang O'Leary has joined as lead director!
"Abi Morgan will conclude the trilogy with the most heartwarming and heartbreaking series to date, as we watch a divorce lawyer confronted with her own divorce. With Christie making a return combined with a shocking revelation, will Hannah and Nathan repair their broken marriage, or is The Split simply too deep to repair?"
In my excitement I overlooked this bit and now I am speculating on what Christie's big revelation might be... and if there might be another divorce lawyer confronted with a divorce... (Zander!)
Damien has added The Split series 3 to his Curtis Brown and Spotlight CVs... I've observed he normally only does that once filming for his role is completed... does that mean he's finished filming Tyler Donaghue already?
Also released today, new interviews with writer Abi Morgan, who also made her directorial debut in making The Split 3 alongside Dee Koppang O'Leary. I wonder if Damien had the good fortune of being directed by her?
I may have been hallucinating, and every bit of news has firmly stated this is the third and final season...but could have sworn I read in an article this morning in an Abi M interview that she hasn't completely closed the door on the idea of another series! But cannot find it now!
Fingers crossed post-production on the new series finishes really quickly and will be on our screens soon!
Photos from Director Dee Koppang O'Leary and Damien's IG stories!
(ADR means 'Automated Dialogue Replacement' which is a misleading name for it really because it is the re-recording of an actor's dialogue, that only the actor can do, in post-production)
I stumbled across this tiny little quote from Damien about The Split series 3, on my frequent googles for news on an air date! Love the idea of beautiful suits. Not sure we have seen this before and can't believe I missed it.. but also, sorry if it is a repeat! Via BT.com
The Split season 3 release date Damien Molony, who reprises his role as Tyler Donaghue, exclusively revealed to BT.com that filming for season 3 finished in September 2021, with a 2022 potential release date.
Speaking in September to promote Brassic season 3, another of his projects, he told us: "We just wrapped up on The Split last week, actually. On my days off from Brassic I’ve been filming on the opposite side of the law, I guess! Working in a law firm and wearing beautiful suits.
I've got all kinds of ideas about series 3 regarding what happens next for Tyler Donaghue... and his entanglements... cannot wait to see what actually plays out.
It is not looking like February or March release. Barry Atsma tweeted yesterday he was dubbing for the series, so it is still in post-production.
Anyone else seen the 'coming soon' BBC One promos for The Split series 3 ? No trailers for the new series, just prompts to rewatch series 1 and 2 because the new series is coming soon, I'm seeing it daily now!
'Coming soon' has to be one of the most tantalising TV phrases !
I'm really looking forward to both The Split and Derry Girls, both high quality TV, yet completely different! It's a joy to see Damien in both drama and comedy roles. We are going to be spoilt this year! Not forgetting, series 4 of Brassic is likely to be released this year too!
