VIDEO: Behind-the-scenes on Bergerac as filming for the popular detective drama gets underway

From journalist Katya Fowler, who shared the photo with Damien above:

"We were invited onto set twice - firstly at La Pulente Car Park where they were filming in Bergerac's car, then the Royal Square which was transformed into a vibrant market.

I met Damien Molony, the new Jim Bergerac, on both occasions and you could tell instantly that he had a huge passion for the project.

When I saw him the second time, he came straight over to us to say hello again and remembered us from the day before, despite probably meeting a lot of people.

I spoke to him about the significance of the Royal Square, where we were, and then told him about Liberation Day.

It was at this point that local actor Tim Renouf came over and got involved in the conversation too.

It felt like everyone was very close and enjoyed working together, a good sign for the series and for showing off the island to a national audience."

Damien was filming for Bergerac in Devon today!

Some lucky residents of Helen Fox House not only got to snap a photo with him, but also enjoyed a 20 minute chat where he shared stories about his first time in Devon and filming at Hope Cove. What a star!

Via Plymouth Live:

The remake of Bergerac, a TV drama which aired on the BBC during the 80s, is being rebooted, with actor Damien Molony at the helm. A production company were in Plymouth today filming scenes for the remake.

Some local residents told PlymouthLive Damien Molony took time of filming in the city today to chat to locals in the area. Devonport local, Deborah Wildey-Garcia said: "The fabulous actor Damien Molony took time out of filming to have a photo and chat with some residents of Helen Fox House in Devonport."

Deborah went on to say that Damien stayed to talk to them for 20 minutes, even asking where they were from. Deborah also said that Damien mentioned that it was his first time in Devon and they had been filming in Hope Cove earlier. She said: "Yes he said its his first time in Devon and had been filming in Hope Cove earlier. He didn't have a car which was a shame he wanted to explore the area. "He asked where we were from and thanked us for being so kind and letting us film, it should be shown in February. The whole crew were fantastic."

Great question, HalGal! It’s a bit of a mystery, isn’t it? The original series was indeed set entirely in Jersey, so unless they’re planning for Bergerac to venture into Devon for some reason, it seems likely they’re just using those beautiful beach locations to stand in for Jersey. It’ll be interesting to see how they incorporate it into the story!

Bergerac was featured on BBC Breakfast (UK) this morning - with teeny tiny glimpses of Damien behind the scenes and filming!

You can watch on catch up here, (at approx the 51.05 min mark)

Although he wasn’t interviewed, there are snippets of Damien filming on location in Jersey, including what looked like an intense action scene where he’s seen running alongside others oh we are in for something special when the series airs!

In addition to the behind-the-scenes snippets  of Damien, BBC Breakfast interviewed members of the production team. Executive Producer Brian Constantine confirmed that the show will remain based in Jersey, a vital part of the series' legacy. Producer Claire Alan, who grew up watching the original Bergerac reminisced on the key elements  - the detective, the car, and the stunning Jersey scenery, and mentioned that while the new series will nod to the original, it’s also about "reinventing" the story and "bringing it up to date" for modern audiences.

Local actor Tim Renouf was also interviewed, he shared that the new series will keep the "glamour" of the original and the basic premise of Bergertac returning to the force, but the storylines will be "grittier" and "darker."

Also featured was the legendary Jon Nettles, the original Jim Bergerac, in excerpts from a BBC Jersey interview. He comnented on how important Jersey was to the success of the original show, saying it was as much a character as any of the actors and on being offered a cameo in the new series, which he declined, feeling it wouldn’t be right for the production and admitting he’s too old to revisit the role.

BBC Breakfast also played the original Bergerac theme tune, which is so classic! The big question is will it be used for the new series, or an updated version with a nod to the original, or a brand new theme? We’ll have to wait and see!
