When a member of one of Jersey's wealthiest families is murdered, the police want their best detective on the case. Meanwhile, a man from Bergerac's past makes a shocking accusation.
I really liked it - forcing myself not to binge-watch!
Found it very slow to start, but excellent once it picked up pace.
The acting was superb and I found the tension between Bergerac and the man in charge of the case intriguing.
The main problem I can see is people comparing it to the original and complaining 'it's not the same' - I bet they would be the first to complain if it was just a copy of the original.
I'm actually enjoying the fact there's not a mystery to be solved every week, I feel we're going on a day-by-day journey to solve the case, not packing a week or more of detective work into a single episode.
Looking forward to next week's episode - which I'll have to watch on U as I'm off to see The Magic Flute next Thursday!
Well obviously, I’ve started binging Bergerac, and I have to say, it’s an absolute joy to see Damien in this role! Finally, a lead role that gives him the space to fully flex his acting muscles, and he does not disappoint.
Having seen the original, Damien's Jim Bergerac is a darker, more complex character, and he embodies those layers perfectly.
I couldn't help but have a Hal moment or two, as Jim grapples with alcoholism... the ways his addiction is written allows for a truly human character also struggling with grief and fatherhood. It is a perfect mix of well crafted drama and character, with an actor whose performance is compelling, nuanced, and completely draws you in. It’s thrilling to see him at the centre and leading a six-episode arc that allows for real depth and development.
Beyond my natural excitement as a fan, the show itself from the first episode unfolds in a gripping way and the whodunnit element keeps you hooked. But the real highlight for me is seeing Damien take on a role that truly showcases his talent. He was made for this kind of character, and it’s fantastic to watch him shine!
I really enjoyed this. I felt engaged right from the start. I liked that the theme music was a nod to the original! I also liked that Charlie Hungerford is a woman in this version.
Funny that you say you had hints of Hal because I got hints of Jack Weston from Suspects. I felt that Jim was a bit like Jack but a Jack who has lived a bit of life and had grown up out of some of the Jack sass!
I'm old school and will be watching each week at a time. Looking forward to seeing how this story unfolds and to see Damien shining in a role with depth as we know he always does.
