it would seem so Rosie, but as fifi pointed out, black comedies can also be dark and unflinching! However, the official production company does not mention a comedic element at all, only thriller. You'd think they would, if there was.
The thing that excites me most of all about discovering the film's name, and further info from that, is that this is a LEADING role for Damien, alongside Brian Gleeson. BR-FUCKING-VO! (sorry).
THIS is what Damien deserves, and I am thrilled about it!
Well geeze, I'm getting all confused now about what this movie is going to be about. But WOOP WOOP!!!! It sounds so exciting!!!! And yes, totally what Damien deserves. To be working on projects (FEATURE FILMS!) with lots of well known, well respected, talented people who can match and challenge him, that are well crafted by more talented people. (I don't really want to say famous people as that doesn't necessarily mean respected or talented) And he deserves recognition and accolades. Much of that. They just need to get his name spelled right. *insert eye roll*

Oh my god fifi what a find!!! This is just giving me more and more chills.

so the film is an adaptation of the play Radio Luxemburg? and it says black comedy....
Radio Luxembourg, a black comedy centring around two Irish criminals involved in a tiger kidnapping, ran in the Galway Fringe Festival, finishing up on Thursday night last. At last Tuesday’s staging by Donnellan’s company Truman Town Theatre, audience reactions were a mix of nervous laughter, gasps of shock and silence at times when characters discussed killings and societal taboos. Donnellan’s writing holds no punches, the dialogue he has created between the two protagonists Joe (Neil Molloy) and Paddy (Callaghan O’Connell), is fast paced, ricocheting off a myriad of emotions, from Joe’s deep despair and loneliness to Paddy’s misplaced feelings of love for former girlfriend Samantha, played by Zaina Newesser. The play takes place in the sitting room of the daughter of a bank manager. The men plan to hold her ransom. At first everything seems to be going to plan, but, like many of the plays produced by Truman Town Theatre, things take a drastic and unexpected turn. As Joe and Paddy reveal more about themselves to each other, their intimidating, scary clown makeup gradually diminishes, representing their vulnerabilities coming out into the open. At first, the audience sees Joe as the bad guy, who speaks of killing his brother and wife for having an affair and burying them under his garden, while Paddy comes across as the rookie who wants to patch things up with his ex-girlfriend. But as the 70-minute play progresses, Joe emerges as the vulnerable one of the pair who describes living alone in his ‘lonely skin’ with a house that smells of ‘mothballs and cheese’. Joe lives for the job, and indeed is prepared to die for the job. And it becomes apparent that Paddy’s darker side involves a long list of abuses of his former girlfriend.
I'm so happy for Damien, who knows where this can lead him? He has so many projects going on right now, not to mention these films coming right behind to boost his career. Waiting for next year so much!
Squeeeeee, can't stop thinking about this movie!!!!!
Do we think he's Joe? (or whatever they may have called his character)

The first part resonates of Hal, the second of Jack.
Says in the play the clown makeup diminishes as the characters reveal more about themselves. I wonder how that will translate to the film...
Also I notice Damo's IMDB photo changed.

Very excited to find out which character whimsy - wonder if the names will change? Paddy has a darker side, so he would also be a great character for Damo to play.
The play's synopsis implies a far more intimate film (not in the naked way! more, close-up, based on dynamics and interplay between just 3 people - the main 2 and the kidnapee) than I had at first imagined, when 'war film' was mentioned. Not only is it thrilling Damien is a lead character but also that this film is sounding fundamentally like a drama, with some darkness (and possibly comedy?) thrown in. The film may be a rough translation of the play though, so we'll have to see.

It'll be interesting to see how this is adapted for the big screen - as you say, domino, it could just follow the rough plot and have a very different vibe......but the writing credits are for Mark Donnellan, the producer and the director, which leads me to think that it will primarily be his script - so I'm hoping it'll retain that "fast paced, richocheting off a myriad of emotions" style.......as well as the black comedy element.
Obviously the setting has been changed......the desert is rather more expansive and cinematic than a sitting room - which sounds quite claustrophobic. The play certainly seems very character based.....and in the interview with Mark Donnellan which whimsy posted before he said that casting was very important.....that it was important that the actors understood their characters, and they had the right dynamic...so I'm guessing there will still be that focus on the 'dynamics and interplay' between them. But yes.....a film adaptation.......described as a 'thriller', not a drama........so maybe there'll be room for some action? (she says optimistically....!)
It seems likely to me that Robert Sheehan would've played the Joe character......so my money's on Damien playing that part (whatever he may be called)
Sounds good........and the best bit - it's 'starring' Damien.... !!!!!

Good points fifi ! The adaptation does look like a close collaboration with the writer ... What a fab opportunity to have your play turned into a film! Can we have that for all Damo plays please and thank you.
And yes with a pretty please on top for the action...which seems highly likely with the actors receiving combat training from MissionX !
Yup everything they keep saying just gets me more excited!
Hoping the media starts mentioning DaMo. With correct surname spelling...

I agree, this one "little" thing has been irritating. It's sort of dishonoring not to even CHECK if they wrote it right..
I just really hope I get to see this as soon at its released, otherwise I don't know how long I have to wait, there's no news about to hit our teathers
Wandering off topic....but it makes me smile that everyone gets irritated when Damien's name is misspelled. I wonder if it botheres him....
It's far more common for people to spell my name wrong than right - and my maiden name had a slightly unusual spelling too. I would spell out both names to people and watch them write it down wrong.....but it's never bothered me in the slightest.
Then again I guess my name isn't very important.......
Fifi, Damien's name misspelling in the scale of things it's not important at all, but irksome from journalists or professionals who presumably don't work in a voluntary basis! I know I make typos but I'm an amateur and would try to at least make important name spellings correct especially the object of the article etc.. I tend to not make comment until it's raised though!
"Finally, we recently shot our first feature film, Tiger Raid, through our sister company, Story. This has been a long established dream to create our own stories and content. It's very personal so is an example of DixonBaxi supporting a whole other level of creative expression. Launching late next year, it means we're bang in the middle of making one of our biggest dreams a reality."
This is not directly related to the film, but came across the wikipedia entry for a "Tiger kidnapping" and found it interesting as I didn't know the this before. Makes me even more curious to the plot of the movie. What is it the two men hope to accomplish with the kidnapping? It is an "attempted kidnapping gone wrong" - what will happen by the end?
