Only 8 days left on iplayer?! I'd better get listening and make a choice. Right now I'm tempted to say 'Gas from a Burner'......but I'll have a listen and make a more informed decision...soon!!
I confess I have been remiss in re-listening to this set of poems (and the more recent ones) I'll need to make more of an effort so I can come vote.

Listening this one more time! Just woke up and put this on while drinking coffee and surfing net... Ah that voice... Incredible. Can't get enough of this!
It is the same for me Jozie, this programme gave us both quantity (a whole 8 readings!) and quality (Damien's talent!) as well as variety. Listening is a true journey of tone and expression.
The more I listen to them, the more 'Dublin' becomes my favorite. The poem itself is amazing, but his voice, and the way he pronounces certain words, makes it perfect.

I managed to squeeze in a couple of listens today befoe it disappeared off iplayer, thank goodness! I do rather like Gas from a Burner - rhyming couplets give so much momentum and energy, and it is a wonderfully irreverent piece - and it contains that fantastic expletive 'shite and onions'....
The Night Ride appeals to me too. It's wonderfully evocative......makes me want to be off on a journey on a night train! But after a couple of listens I found myself suprisingly drawn to Goat Paths......it just kind of speaks to me I guess.

I love how poetry grows on us. I think we find what suits us at the time, and that changes as we go along. I'd love to have Damien do an audiobook of poetry. I might never leave home again!

An audiobook of Damien's poetry readings, now there's an idea! if Poetry Please put all his readings into one... I am sure we'd part with our pennies for that!
I just voted for 'Dublin' and I'd probably vote for something different if I listened in a few days. Funny how my mood changes. One reason I love poetry.
I know I'd part with my hard-earned pennies for an audiobook of Damien ready poetry. Damien reading just about anything suits me!

I am visiting my in laws this week, and I totally think that 'Goat Paths' particularly resonates with me at this moment - I am longing for a bit of sunny quietude, or quiet solitude! And so I will give it my vote today, although I may feel differently in a few days time.
I do like the poem 'Goat Paths' and I love the picture it paints. Damien's voice captures it so well! Goats are much less idyllic in person, though. Once you've sheared an angora goat, the romance is gone.

I will go with my heart and chose the romantic imagery of Silent Noon as my favorite. I know, depressingly predictable. I'm a sucker for poems (and stories) that paint vivid pictures in my head.
I've enjoyed his readings of James Joyce's poetry, but find Joyce's poetry a bit tongue-twistery. I find myself lost in the semantics of it, and don't really get to FEEL it, if that makes sense. But if I were to choose a #2 it is Gas from a Burner for it's cheekiness.
The bookmark is my #3 for it's touch of whimsy. I like the twist at the end (or at least what I see as a twist) that the ticket was placed in the book by the reader/writer himself. I imagine someone in their older years, the poignancy of discovering a tangible piece of some journey taken in the distant past.
As for Damien's performance itself, as always superb. I echo everyone's sentiments about wanting him to read anything and everything. I'll gladly pay!
